Can we get some love (and shares?) for one of our oldest residents, Xena?? While we love this sweet senior, she's been here far too long and deserves to spend her golden years in a home o her very own!
"Hi! My name is Xena and I’m a 9-year-old spayed female Hound Mix. I came to Lucy Mackenzie after things didn’t quite work out for me in my previous home – don’t let that fool you, though! I’m a really super, super adorable gal, and I have soo much to say, as well as love to give – my voice is as big as my heart! I’d do best with people that are dog-experienced (especially with adorable and charming hounds!) and live in a home and location where my vocal-skills are appreciated. I could live easily with older dog-savvy children, too. I definitely cannot live with cats or small animals, though – my canine instincts will likely kick in, I’m sorry to say. Anyway, if you’d like to meet me or learn more about me, stop by or give my friends here a call at 802-484-5829. Who knows? I may be just the one for you!"
Happy Caturday courtesy of Jake! Yes, cute little Jake is most certainly an adorable canine, but he celebrates Caturday along with all of us! Give us a call at 802-484-5829 or email [email protected] to learn more!
Please consider making a donation towards our Pet Pantry either through Chewy (link below) or by dropping items off right at Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society. Our greatest need at the moment is dry cat food - we are completely out.

If you or somebody you know is struggling to feed their animals, please contact us at 802-484-5829, at [email protected] or stop in during our open hours and let us know what your needs are. We are here to help!

This playful, loving and adorable 13-year-old Bengal (yes, he’s really 13-years-old!), who has a perpetually worried-looking face, came to Lucy Mackenzie when his beloved human passed away. Important to remember this time of year!
It’s that time of year again! Blue-green algae blooms pose a huge risk to our pets causing severe illness and, in severe cases, death. Made up of microscopic bacteria, blue-green algae is a normal part of the ecosystem in Vermont’s bodies of water. Read our blog to learn more about what symptoms look like and how to prevent toxicity in the first place: https://bit.ly/3wCND6e

FOUND CAT
Young female found on Main St. in Ludlow, VT approx. 1 month ago. She is now safe and sound at Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society in West Windsor, VT. Contact us directly at 802-484-5829 for further information.
(*Proof of ownership is required to claim all stray animals.)
We LOVE these two sweeties, Blossom and Hector! Both of them have come such a long way since being in our care, but both require lots of patience, acceptance and calm. Our hope (as it is for all our adoptables!) is to find each of them the right home and one that is well-matched and suited to their personality and needs. They both came to us after living their lives on their own, and are independent felines that have become more and more trusting of human interaction. Hector would likely benefit from being an only-cat; Blossom is OK on her own, but would also be happy to live with other kind felines. If you have a home and lifestyle that may suit either Blossom or Hector, please give us a call at 802-484-5829 to learn more, or stop by Tuesday - Saturday, 12-4PM to inquire.
Thank you, Public House Pub Quechee!!!

TGIF and TGFV…that’s short for Thank Goodness for Volunteers! We had a great visit with a volunteer group from the Bank of America this morning. They were quick to lend a hand with anything and everything - floors, windows, laundry, dishes and, of course, snuggling with the animals! The shelter looks cleaner than ever! Our sincere thanks to them paying us a visit and offering a helping hand.

It's hard to believe that this video was taken over a year ago, and it's even more difficult to believe that Lilly is still here! Please help us find her very own home. Lilly is equally parts smart and sensitive, and needs a home in which she'll be the only companion animal, and one in which there are no young children. She will do best in the care of an experienced dog-owner - somebody that is willing to set boundaries, which will improve the quality of her life. She is a sweetheart; we all love her and want nothing more than to see her spend the new year in her very own home. We're here to answer any questions, or to set-up an introduction: 802-484-5829 or [email protected] #shelterlove #adopt

Hoppy Friday, everybunny! Courtesy of our resident Bunny Guru and Shelter Manager, Amy, we bring you Interesting Bunny Fact #9: Did you know you can use a bar of Ivory soap to deter your bunny from chewing unwanted items? It is safe for rabbits and most items but very unpleasant tasting! Simply rub the bar on wires, wooden trim, carpet edges, etc! Although it is very natural for rabbits to chew, this normal behavior can also be quite destructive and even harmful if they have access to things such as electric wires or toxic substances. Keep in mind, though, that they should always have appropriate objects to gnaw and chew such as hay (of course!), cardboard, untreated wood/sticks, just to name a few! Visit rabbit.org/faq-chewing/ for a more complete list. We have three baby bunnies plus a lovely pair of adult sisters, Prima and Vera, available for adoption. Give us a call at 802-484-5829 or email [email protected] to inquire! #hoppyfriday #bunnylove
