Sit, Stay, Down, Heel, and Come, are five basic commands that all dogs should know. While it is best to start when your puppy is young, a dog is never too old to learn. In just six short weeks, I can teach your dog to be the pet you have always dreamed of. Protection dogs, Gun dogs, Service dogs, Companion dogs, Trial dogs...the best of them start with Basic Obedience. So, regardless of your inten

tions, it is important for you, your dog, and the rest of society, that you have a well trained and well behaved dog. Call today so that we can get started: 956-617-3056.

Hey guys! Meet Maverick. His owner is i. Her seventies. He was a little ball of fire. Modified obedience. Calm. Happy. Controlled. Obedient. That’s what I do. These are pets, not competitors. This is obedience. Not YouTube nonsense.

Punisher being walked by his 17 year old owner after only two days with me. Both dogs, I especially Yankee, would pull towards the sound of the other dogs barking behind the fences. Feeding time was no fun and the destruction had already begun. This family follows directions to the “T”.

17 years ago I trained this couples mini schnauzer and their mother’s pit bull. I am honored that they called me back so many years later…after thinking that they had become “cat people”.

They say that it’s the little things in life that make us happy…Believe that!

Thank you guys!!!

The past is in the past and the future is now. What kind of future do you want with your dog(s)?

Before you bring your puppy home, you have a bed for it, doggy dishes, toys, harness and leash, and four or five different types of “treats”. One out of 40 calls is from an expected owner who is practicing diligence, looking for information about training. It is just too easy to get “rid” of a dog, once you have allowed/created it to be such a nuisance. It’s because he/she (fill in the blank) or (go ahead and fill that blank too) Try to think of any excuse…believe me, I’ve heard them all.

Torres K9 Academics provides solutions not excuses. Over the past 30 years, having helped thousands of dogs and their owners, I have developed an easy to follow program. This year I will be taking time to explain the psychology…the WHY your dog responds, willingly, to my communication as oppsed to yours.

Make training your dog part of this new year’s resolution. Resolve to understand your dog’s psychology. Let Torres K9 Academics show you how.

Hey guys!

Viper is a 5 year old Labrador/German Shepherd. Just about everyday of his life has been done wrong…and I say that in the most non-judgement way. Never been on a leash. Never been for a walk. Never been bathed. He’s never been “forced” to do anything, except stay in his home where he gets to do nothing but get worse. But his owner loves him…and that’s all anybody should think about. Nothing more to see here.

But the reality is much, much different than the idea that “everything is ok”. As with anything in life, we never know when our last day will be. What plans do you have for your dogs in the event that something happens to you? Do you have a plan for euthanasia? Do you have a rescue lined up? Has a neighbor agreed to take them, worst case scenario? Have any family members stepped up? Depending on your dog’s behavior, your options may be limited. Maybe you have no plan in place and that hard decision will be left to others who are not as invested.

I have always said, all dogs should be trained in basic obedience at the very least. If you do not plan on having your puppy or dog trained, you are saying that whatever happens, happens. Bring the drama!!! And that seems to be the most prevalent mindset, today.

It doesn’t have to be that way. You do not have to stay in the fantasy horror and suspense of not knowing and not trusting your own dog. Have aplan. Create a vision. Call Torres K9 Academics to help you make it a reality. Results are guaranteed!!

Hey guys!

Torres K-9 Academics is very happy to announce our new facility. We will have much more room for boarding as well as having a doggy daycare. We are still finishing up some of the final details, but we should be ready by the middle or end of next week to start enrolling for the doggy daycare.

The holidays are fast upon us, so don’t wait until the last minute to reserve a boarding spot for your pooch. It is much better to reserve a spot two months ahead of time, rather than looking for one two days before you need it, only to find that everywhere you call is already booked.

With 30 years in the dog training business, to my knowledge, we are the only ones who still offer a 100% guarantee on the results of training.

What are you waiting for?

Hey guys!

I’ve got a 800 lbs Pitbull mix named Spencer…He isn’t really 800 pounds but the way he pulls, he might as well be. I’ll be posting a video of his first time being fitted with an E collar. As usual first take will be the only one.

I also have Nala…She’s a Belgian Malinois. Sweet with humans…She finds small animals sweet to taste, including other dogs. With some leash work and obedience training she’ll be whipped into shape in no time. Stay Tuned!

Hey guys! I've been having issues with videos since last summer...I am trying to resolve them but I may create a youtube channel for videos and link them here.

Torres K-9 Academics has some pretty cool stuff happening this year. one of which we will be providing trained dogs for purchase. We are currently working with a few pups that will be available in about four weeks. These pups are Malinois x German Shepherd x Malinois. The father is a Mal X who was bred to a female Malinois. Each pup is being hand raised, socialized in public in many different environments, and will be trained in basic obedience on leash. Although they will be extremely reliable on a loose leash, they will be started on off leash training and they will be acclimated to an e collar for communication.

Puppy shaping. Social skills around other animals as well as people. Obedience. My dogs are the real deal.

There are only two pups left but we will be getting more pups throughout the year. German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, Mal X, among other breeds will be available for this program.

Prices start at $3500. Price will increase for Advanced Obedience (off leash) and Guard/Personal Protection work. We are taking deposits. Call today to reserve your trained pup.

Thank you guys!!!

Your Dog is Not a Baby!

Todays culture is absolutely ruining dogs and as behaviourists we are seeing more and more preventable problems appearing not only at our facilities but in the public domain too!

People are treating their dogs like children, and no matter how much you say it, or what you believe, they are not children. They are dogs... An apex predator with forty two teeth in their head and a bite pressure that can break bones.

They deserve treating like dogs!

Somehow treating your dog like a dog has become a taboo subject and its because of the warped generation that's flooding the industry.

Can't say no to a dog.
Can't go in cold weather with a dog.
Can't let a dog get muddy.
Can't give a dog a job.
Can't feed a dog raw meat.
If your dog is in shape its too skinny.

We are walking around in a world where giving your dog a job is cruel beyond belief but having a dog 30kg overweight with diabetes falling out of its ears is absolutely fine. It's warped and twisted and wrong.

They are dogs! Treat them as dogs. You cannot take any pristine animal on this earth and pretend that it's a baby. Oh hello, this is my whale, he is my baby. It doesn't work like that, and if you respect the dog, it doesn't work with them either.

We have to push back on this mentality because it is literally killing dogs. Dogs are being euthanized every day purely because nobody told them what rules they were supposed to follow or because they weren't given a job they so desperately wanted.

Let's start honoring our dogs for the absolutely amazing creatures they are. Dogs are magnificent, majestic, intelligent, robust. For me, they are the best animal on the planet so let's stop killing them and treat them for exactly what they are.

Honor your dog.

Hey guys! It has come to my attention that a certain "training" outfit has been abusing dogs with prong collars. What's even worse than that is that they have convinced so many unwitting owners that it is ok. This is not at all acceptable and will not be tolerated.

The proper use of a prong collar : Remove or add links as necessary to fit snug around your dog's neck. The collar should be fitted low on the neck and NOT high on the neck to prevent serious injury and trauma. The dog should be allowed to walk forward and "into" the collar. As soon as the dog feels the poke of the prongs it SELF corrects. Then using a slip collar in conjunction, as recommended in training, we digress to corrections with the slip collar.

That's it! It's really that easy!!!

The improper way to use a prong collar (ABUSE) : Fit the prong collar on your dog's neck and yank as hard as you can while shouting meaningless commands at your dog. Then yell at the owners for not being able to abuse their dog as well as you do.

Does this sound like a familiar sight? If it does... You went to the wrong place. Don't worry though. I have helped fix a lot of their mistakes after having received a lot of abused dogs that had "trained" with them.

If you meet a trainer who advises you to yank your dog with a prong collar while shouting at the top of your lungs displaying a massive amount of ignorance and insecurity you shouldn't just walk away as quickly as possible you should report them to the local authorities as well.🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

This is what constitutes "credentials" nowadays. How about a 21 hrs weekend certification course so that you can be a "certified" trainer from an "accredited" "organization". What they are teaching about dogs today is laughable. Some big name trainers will charge you thousands of dollars to tell you how stupid you are about dogs. At Torres K-9 Academics we make it a point to show you how easy it is to communicate effectively with your dog. A seven year old can do it, and I believe that you can too. 🐕‍🦺❤️🐕‍🦺❤️🐕‍🦺❤️

There are many ways to train a dog. Many different methods as well as philosophies. Many different purposes and goals for training. The method from which we start should have the end goal in mind.

Even amongst professionals there are differences. While I respect Leerburg for their extensive experience, I do not adhere to some of the philosophies. The deletion of the chain collar for correction is one. Using a prong collar for corrections is also a big No No. It has been close to ten years since I have used a prong collar to stop a dog from pulling the leash. When I did use it, I never issued corrections with it as it is a self correction device. If it is not effective on the dog as it was designed to be used, then it should not he used for that dog. While I visited Denver one thing that I noticed were the amount of dogs being walked on prong collars. It only took me a very short time to realize that there must be a trainer with authority out there authorizing the use of prong collars for dog walking. I am not here to judge anyone. I'm here to help teach your dog how to walk without pulling the leash without having to expose it to a prong collar. It is not that I do not agree with the use of prong callers. But today I only recommend them for a very small demographic.

Many trainers today who have the experience that I have, have fallen victim to the sensitivity and bleeding hearts in society. Caesar Milan has a product called The invisible collar as just such an example. When you finish reading this go to YouTube and watch an AKC dog show being performed. You will notice the dominant leads that they use much like the black special effects cables in Hollywood. The handler will place the cord high up on the neck where it's most sensitive and will cinch it down leading the dog along on a taught lead. Some dogs learn to come along more willingly than others as you will see.

Then the idea of two different types of heeling is expressed. One type, competition, the other type where a more simple form is allowed, loose leash heeling. Described is a dog that is constantly looking up at you prancing along for animation points in competition. Loose leash healing is described as the dog leaning against you. Neither types of healing would be wanted in a real life scenario. I would want my dog alert to surroundings instead of staring up at me waiting for me to drop a tidbit into its mouth whether it was walking in a perfect heel or not. I would never want my dog leaning against me and those of you who have worked with me know that it is something that I train out before the left turn is taught.

As stated, there are many different ways to train a dog depending on the purpose. If you are in a competition and your dog is not looking up at you prancing along anxiously waiting for you to drop food or a ball into its mouth you will lose points. In some arenas the touch heel may be practical for the handler and dog team. Because I do not use these heels I do not train them. That is not to say that there is anything wrong with them. I love watching those videos just as much as anyone else. I simply have no practical use for them, nor do I know anyone who does. Whether it be a pet or a working dog I see no reason for it to be staring at me or touching me while working. I like to create independent thinking dogs who are ultra obedient. I use a cinch collar and a leash to accomplish that.

You can try this and you can try that. Many of us practice the philosophy of going straight to what works. Using Patience Persistence and Praise, in just six short weeks your dog can become the companion you have always dreamed of having.
