WE HAVE A MAJOR ISSUE! Our ac/heat unit has gone out in our Piggy Palace, which is home to over 50 Guinea pigs - including furless skinny pigs. Tonight, temps are supposed to drop to 24 degrees with wind chills in the teens. We need to replace their unit TODAY. Please help us get this done by making a tax deductible donation. These little guys are so sweet and don’t do well in cold so we have to get this done for them.

We worked until 11 pm last night and into the evening hours today distrubuting shavings/sweaters - meeting people, delivering, assisting with putting them out, and getting feral colonies ready for the weather. In all, we were able to assist over 200 pets. Tonight will be the second night our county sees temperatures in the 20s and windchills in the teens. This will continue until Friday when our area is supposed to see freezing rain. We gave advice to owners on how to distribute the shavings in order for each dog to have enough shavings for the first round then another round once the rain hits and shavings get wet. Our hope is that pets in our area will stay warm and dry throughout this Arctic blast. Thank you to all who donated to make this possible!

Olan : Last night, we were tagged in a Facebook post about a severely emaciated dog that was covered in mange who had wandered into someone’s yard. They gave the poor dog blankets, food and water, but were hnad to provide him care. With last nights 20 degree temps, we knew we had to help. We were able to find a foster home and volunteer Geri picked him up and overnighted him last night. Along with his weight and skin concerns, Olan had visible worms in his f***s and is vomiting undigested food - which could be a blockage from eating trash, rocks or other things he could find while starving. Olan is now at our vet and we will know more about his medical condition soon.

Thanks to the amazing response of our community and followers, over 150 pets will be snug and warm in the coming freeze! We gave out all but six bales of shavings and over 40 sweaters/jackets/hoodies for dogs. We are not done yet, as tomorrow we have deliveries to our last 7 homes with 14 more dogs and 1 cat receiving supplies. We ran out of daylight today but will make sure they are taken care of before tomorrow night’s freezing temperatures. We couldn’t have done this without all of you! Thank you to those who donated, who shared to get the word out, who sent us neighbors addresses who had pets in need, who dropped off blankets and sweaters/jackets at the rescue, and those who came out to get supplies! We all worked together to make sure pets in our area are safe and warm during the winter blast - and we are so grateful to each and every one of you!

Donations Needed : We had a TREMENDOUS response to our post with almost 100 pets needing shavings/sweaters for the approaching winter blast (as of 8 am). In order to be able to assist all those in need, we need to purchase at least one more pallet of pine shavings (two pallets would give us enough to also take the truck and make rounds in the community to see if anyone without Facebook access needs assistance). At a discount, Tractor Supply is selling us the pallets for $324 today. Our goal is to not turn anyone away and not to have a single animal in our county suffer through the bitter cold. We can do this - but we need your help! Please consider making a donation to help us reach this goal 🐾 ***First pallet covered. Working on donations for second pallet***

PIKE COUNTY RESIDENTS: Tomorrow between 11-3, we will be distributing pine shavings to households with outside pets in need of insulation for the coming winter weather. We will also have a limited number of size medium dog hoodies/sweaters to help keep pets warm. These supplies are available at no cost to you. We want to make sure all outdoor pets are ready for the winter blast, as temperatures are expected to be in the 20s with wind chills in the teens. This weather has the potential to be fatal. Please make provisions for your pets now. If you plan to pick up supplies tomorrow, please text 334-508-2367 with how many pets you have in need and if you will need a sweater. If you are unable to come to the rescue center, please text that number with your address and how many pets you have. We will try to get supplies out to you. ***At this time, we do not have dog houses available due to funding ability. If this changes, we will add to our available list.*** We will hand out supplies until everything is gone.

Another day. Another abandoned litter 😢 This litter of puppies was found on a rural county dirt road by a kind Samaritan. It was really a blessing someone found them, as our area is supposed to see below freezing temperatures in the next few days. The Good Samaritan decided to give a home to two of the puppies and brought us the other four to find homes for. They will be on mandatory health hold for two weeks then will be available for adoption.

Artic Blast Moving In Next Week : Tomorrow, we would like to purchase two pallets of pine shavings. Our temperatures are supposed to drop well below freezing to the low 20s with wind chills in the teens. We would like to make sure that no dog or cat is left without proper insulation against the cold. We would like to be able to pass out bags of shavings to community members with outdoor dogs/cats at no cost in an effort to ensure pets stay warm during this weather. We also want to take to the streets to find dogs in need with owners that are unable to pick up shavings and feral cats. We don’t want any pet to suffer through these freezing temperatures.

Rescue doesn’t stop just because it gets dark….It’s late but we received a call about puppies abandoned on a county road near a hay field. Our volunteers went out and were able to locate four puppies. They are currently in an overnight foster and will be at our rescue center tomorrow. We weren’t prepared for four more puppies but leaving them in the woods with no food or water at the mercy of wild animals and cars was not an option.

The puppies will need to be vaccinated, dewormed, and given flea/tick preventatives at the very least - if none have other health concerns. Please consider donating to help us continue our mission to help puppies like these.

Christmas Eve 23 Update : Slowly but surely many of the dogs continue to come out of their shells. When we say these dogs are under socialized, it is not an exaggeration. Several are still unwilling to allow us to touch them. This sweet mom went home with one of our fosters. At first, she growled and lunged to bite. But with a lot of love and work, she has shown progress. Although still terrified and shaking at human touch, she allows her foster mom to handle her and her babies. We are hoping that the entire group continues in this direction and hopefully one day turns the corner to knowing we don’t mean them any harm.

Your donations are essential for us to continue our mission to help dogs in need like these. All 23 dogs that came from the home will need longer term care to be adopted out. Right now, we could really use small breed dry dog food and puppy pads. Donations can be shipped to 34 County Road 2266, Brundidge, AL 36010.

Transport Sponsors Needed : Santa came and went - and left us one of the best gifts of all! Tomorrow night, we have the opportunity to send 15 (yes, 15!) bulldog and pit mixes to our no kill rescue partner in upstate New York! The rescue is foster based and breed specific so these dogs and puppies will have all their needs cared for until they find loving, experienced homes ❤️ Now we need to raise the funds to make this transport happen. We need sponsors of $50 each to cover needed vetting, van rental, and fuel. This is a total of $750. We know it’s a lot, but here in the south, there are not many opportunities for these wonderful dogs. We want to give them the best chance possible at a better forever - and this is how. Please help us do that for Wednesday, Olaf, Elsa, George, Cocoa, Gingersnap, Plum Pudding, Miss Piggy, Zero, Midnight, Chewy, Oreo, Moonpie, Cosmic Brownie, and Little Debbie ❤️
