We need to prepare for cold weather coming! And we have a major PROBLEM! We have 22 dogs that need new dog houses. Although they are in a covered building, during winter weather, we provide blankets and heat lamps, which need dog houses to contain the heat. For the next week, we have beautiful weather but after that, our nights will drop to almost freezing and we will need to bring out the cold weather gear. Please consider sponsoring a dog house for one of our rescue pups. Many of the ones we have to replace have been used for years and years to help save many large dogs in need. (We do have two kennel buildings that are indoor/outdoor. We intend to enclose this building also, but the lowest quote we currently have to do that is $60,000 - which is currently well out of our price range.)

We got a message earlier regarding Toby and Tony….The person was a donor and was upset due to using funds to try to save the two puppies when there are so many other healthy dogs to save, especially now that both puppies have passed and we still have $750 left to pay after donations. We totally get it. We don’t want $1000 bill as much as anyone would. But understand, many times, our amazing vets can save pets. They can give them the best care and the pets go on to live happy, healthy lives and become part of families. This is the case with Emi, Possum and Queso - to name some recent ones. We invest in these pets because they have been let down by the people who they needed most. And we will never apologize for trying to save them. Because they deserved a chance. This time, it heartbreakingly didn’t succeed. But for many others, a chance was all they needed for their happy ever after to come true. Take a look at the before and after photos if you don’t believe.

We do still owe an emergency bill. And we can definitely tell you one person that won’t help to cover it. But if you believe in second chances and can help, please consider helping cover the final bills for Toby and Tony. Donations can be made :

THANKSGIVING DINNER FOR THE RESCUE PETS : This year we are gearing up for our big Thanksgiving dinner for our pets at the rescue center. This is our 5th annual dinner. We are so excited to be able to bring some of the holiday joy to our rescue pets. They may not have found families yet, but they deserve a special holiday and we want to give them that. This really is something we look forward too, as we can give them one day that they get to enjoy home cooked food (or veggies in the case of small animals) and give them a little reprieve from the monotonous every day routine of shelter life. The pets all enjoy their extra special meal and go to bed full and happy at the end of the holiday. (For people who worry, our recipes are specially made for pets. We have never had a single animal become sick due to our special Thanksgiving meal.)

This year, our rescue center is packed. We will be feeding more pets than ever! We would really appreciate help making the rescue pets Thanksgiving extra special.

It’s $5 Friday! Right now, our major need is dry dog food - so every dime donated will be going to our food bills. We are currently on intake hold and are not filling open kennels due to our current feed bill - which is insane due to feeding 600 lbs of food a day. We are hoping this is temporary but for right now, there is no way to know. Our local Tractor Supply is now matching dog food prices pound for pound, making a 50 lb bag $23.50. This is a blessing, as it saves us $1.50 per bag. But it still makes our food bill $282 PER DAY! Your donations are essential for us to continue to feed the dogs in our care. We are hoping to find a new distributor soon and be able to reopen intakes. This is the first time in many years that we have not had an abundance of dog food. Many times, we have had enough to assist other shelters and rescues. And we hope to be able to do that again. But for right now, we are nervous because having no dog food is very scary when you have as many mouths to feed as we do. (Many people have asked about Chewy. As of right now, they have not been back in touch with us after the initial post and messages. As a large corporation, it most likely takes a bit of time to get approval for donations. We hope we will hear from them soon with a decision.)

Toby Update : Toby fought hard, but his body gave out…Toby spent his last days wagging his tail, eating as much as he would like, and sleeping in a warm, comfy kennel. The vets and staff loved and cared for him as their own and tried their very best to save him. In the end, the infection had wreaked havoc on his poor body and his organs started shutting down. Toby’s body told of the torture he had endured during the short time he lived. His body was covered in demodex mange. He had urine burns on his legs and stomach. He was so painfully thin. He most likely had not one day of his life that he lived not sick or in pain until he was brought to the vet. We pray that his last days were lived in as much comfort as could be possible. And although he never knew a real home or good life, we are glad his last moments were not spent suffering beside the road. Toby and Tony deserved better……

Our current balance at Ozark Vet is $1011. Usually we share happy stories of recovery and transformations, but unfortunately, sometimes that isn’t the case. Sometimes, neglect and abuse take the lives of little angels no matter how hard we try to save them…..If you can assist with the final bills for Toby and Tony, please make a donation to :

***$200 Covered - $335 Needed***Dog Food Update : Thank you to everyone who donated so far! We weren’t able to pick up food yesterday - but we are so close to reaching our goal! We need to raise $535 today to pick up 65 bags of food for the week (we had a kind lady donate 5 bags at Tractor Supply last night so we reduced the number needed). Please help us feed the pups!

Dumped Puppies Update : We have a heartbreaking update on the grey puppy named Tony. He fought so hard but the odds were stacked against him. He passed away despite the best efforts of the vet and staff. We take comfort in that he was with his brother; he was warm; and he was safe. He didn’t pass away scared, cold, and alone on the side of the road.

His brother, Toby, is defying the odds and fighting for his life. He is loaded with hookworms, covered in demodex mange, ate up with infection, and severely malnourished. His front legs are bent due to nutrient deficiencies. These puppies didn’t just get like this - They have been neglected and abused for a long time. The vet has Toby on IV antibiotics, fluids, and is treating him for mange and hookworms. We are happy to say that he is eating on his own. His current condition is “guarded”, as his body is in such low condition to fight against all his ailments. But he isnt giving up so neither are we!

Toby has a long way to come up. We need to make sure he gets the best treatment. Please consider making a donation to his care. Donations can be called into Ozark Vet Clinic. Donations can also be made via :

It’s that time! We need to pick up dog food for the week. With what we currently have on hand, we need to purchase 70 bags for this coming week. And YES, we feed A LOT of dogs - around 600 lbs a day to be exact. It would be great if we were feeding a rescue full of small dogs, but unfortunately, that is not what ends up on shelter euthanasia lists. So our kennels are full of bullies, hounds, and lab mixes - and boy, do they eat! We have reached out to the dog food mills in our area and several distribution outlets, but the best “bang for our buck” comes for purchasing at Rural King. We hope to be able to pick up food today for the week so our pups won’t have to worry about where food is coming from. To do that, we need to raise funds. We need 70 people to sponsor a bag at $19 each for a total of $1,329. If we all pitch in and help, we will meet our goal in no time! Please share and let’s make sure our rescue pups have full bellies! ***We have been in contact with Chewy. They are working to get approvals to help. With assistance not being guaranteed, we need to make sure to have food for the many dogs we feed daily. If Chewy does end up assisting, we guarantee this food won’t go to waste, as there are always mothers to feed.***

Emergency Vet Help Needed : Earlier tonight, a Good Samaritan saw a man dump two puppies beside the road. The puppies are very sick. The Good Samaritan brought them to our rescue center, where we immediately loaded them into a kennel and headed for the emergency vet. Goodness knows with our current food issue, we didn’t need an emergency vet bill but these puppies are bad off. They were both severely emaciated, dehydrated, cold to the touch, white gums, and lethargic. Their skin was eaten up with mange and was covered in urine burns. We are thankful Ozark Vet Clinic could meet us tonight and take these two in for treatment. They both thankfully tested negative for parvo. They are currently receiving ivs, treatment for their medical issues and being warmed up. We will know more after tests are run and expect a morning update.

Emergency vet bills are expensive, but these puppies would not have made the night without vet care. Please consider helping us help them by making a donation to their care. Donations can be made :

We are most likely looking at going on intake hold for a bit. Our major food distributors are both completely out of dry dog food - and do not know when they will receive more from the program. This is a major setback for our rescue, as we have a tremendous number of large breed dogs (which are those most often in shelters). With our current feeding 600 lbs per day, just dog food for a week will be almost $1500. We checked with a wholesale distributor nearby, but the minimum order is 860 bags with a price tag of $16,000 (including the $950 freight charge). Right now, that’s not a possibility for us - although it would provide almost 4 months of food for the dogs at our rescue. We are reaching out to any resources that might be able to assist so hopefully we do not have to go on hold, but it is not looking promising. Please send some good thoughts and prayers our way if you have a minute.

Our senior kids are a little sad. They haven’t raised a single dollar toward their yearly senior exams 😢 They want everyone to know that old kids can still give so much love ❤️ Just because they are a little grey, doesn’t mean they aren’t just as cute as the little puppies 🐾

Senior Dogs Rock : Our rescue is committed to helping pets in need regardless of age, health status, or breed. Part of that pledge is a commitment to senior pets. Whether it be due to the owner passing away, moving, or other reasons entirely, senior pets find themselves in kill shelters. We can’t bear the thought of a sweet senior spending their last days on a concrete floor with little interaction. Seniors are much harder to place than younger pets - but they have given their entire lives in service to another. And we reward that loyalty with a soft place to lay their heads, whether it be for weeks, months or years. Part of our commitment includes caring for these pets health needs. Next week, we have six seniors that need to go in for yearly senior exams and bloodwork. This is essential to us providing the right care, as seniors needs change and we want to always have their best interest at heart. Unfortunately, senior exams are quite costly. We need to raise a total of $250 for each of the six dogs to cover their exams. Thankfully, this is a once a year cost, but with all of the recent vet care needs and food supply problems, we need your help to make this happen.

Please consider helping our senior babies with a tax deductible donation today. Donations can be made to:

We were asked to make Amazon wishlists and Chewy wishlists to make it easier for people to donate dog food to our sweet pups. We have included the links below. Our rescue dogs have come from all different backgrounds from starving on the ends of chains to eating rotting carcasses on the sides of highways. Don’t worry about the brand of the food, because we promise, one of our dogs will sure enjoy it. They aren’t picky and are thankful for a full bowl ❤️
