Jennifer and Ryan Skinner, CF, APF, have a passion for starting young horses with a quiet and gentle, yet confident, hand. With a combined 40 years in a variety of aspects in the equine industry, they are capable of giving young horses a good all-around foundation suitable for whatever discipline they head into. Jennifer has been riding horses since she was a young girl, and became serious about b

arrel racing when she was 12. She has been schooled in the art of Dressage, was an assistant trainer in the cutting horse and show horse worlds, and was an equine veterinary technician, specializing in performance horse lameness, post-surgical care, and radiography, for seven years. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2014 with a BS in Animal Science - equine production. Ryan, owner of Skinner Farrier Services, has 20+ years of experience in therapeutic podiatry and performance horse shoeing, and is currently working on becoming a Certified Journeyman Farrier in the American Farriers Association. In addition to his farrier knowledge, he has SHOT show, working cow horse, and roping experience. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1999 with a degree in Agricultural Economics, and took many classes toward getting his masters in equine reproduction. Their combined knowledge of training and riding performance horses, competition, therapy and rehabilitation, and equine physiology and reproduction have enabled them to create a top-notch, full spectrum equine facility. They have also been able to create and nurture a large network of equine-focused individuals and businesses, which is the foundation for their equine marketing. High quality technology and knowledge of pedigrees, conformation, and movement allow them to properly train, prepare, and showcase horses for sale - their own and their clients. Draggin' S Arena and Stables, where JRS Performance Horses calls home, has a main barn with eleven 12' x 12' stalls, each with a covered 12' x 24' run. The main barn also has a set of stocks and a concrete wash rack. The property has a 60' round pen and an 85' x 100' cutting pen that are both lighted for nighttime use. The 165' x 250' roping sized arena also has lighting, a sound system, and boasts a Prefert roping chute. The arena is worked with a Revel 4N1 drag. The property also has multiple wooded acres and a creek, perfect for trail riding and photography backgrounds. Draggin' S Arena and Stables is conveniently located on OSR, between Highway 21 and Highway 6. Only 4.5 miles from Texas Equine Hospital, the Skinners have maintained a great working relationship with the doctors and staff at the vet clinic. Draggin' S is only 8 miles from the Brazos Valley Expo Center and within 15 minutes of three feed stores. The Skinners are just as passionate about their family as they are horses. Their seven kids can often be found out in the barn, on a pony, or helping at the shoeing truck.

Maggie is a 15.0hh 6yr old mare bred to be an athlete with a heart of gold. She was started under saddle by a reiner, then went into barrel racing training and did that for a bit, has been hauled all over and competed and seen the sights. We have recently discovered that although she was making money and doing ok at barrel racing, instead of dropping into the ground and turning hard, she is better at, and prefers, to get up and over things! She is a lovely hunter/jumper prospect. She has had a bunch of professional training so she has all kinds of soft and fancy buttons, she has a flying change and smooth, supple, easy transitions up and down. She has lateral movements and responds easily to her rider's seat and leg. She is so easy and kind to ride around I have given amateur and junior lessons on her. She is not hot or silly. She is NOT a blown up barrel horse, she just didn't love the dropping down deep to turn part as much so, on a whim, we decided to cross train her and found that she has great joy to be in an English saddle and go over things. She is smart with her feet, thoughtful and graceful. She has been vetted with clean radiographs, she has had chiropractic and bodywork. She is sound and healthy just shows more talent and promise for a different discipline than her family had intended her for. Contact us if you could see this sweet and talented young mare working in your program. Low five figures. We are located in Bryan TX

Broodmares are the heart of our whole program. At a week over her due date Catalina's poor feet are getting a bit tender, she most definitely deserves some foot magnawave. Our broodmares are as valuable in our hearts as any performance horse, their comfort is just as important.
Any horse's comfort is our top priority, but today I shout out to the love of our mommas.

I love what the outside of the horse can do for the inside of a person. I love how they challenge us to grow and develop in our mind, body and character, they give us a reason to be better. The pure and honest art of horsemanship is one that deserves to be preserved and passed down and out.
Standing on this love, I have found a passion to teach. To help people get the most out of their equine relationships, to help them understand their partners and clear their communication.
I have been blessed to have the opportunity to be the home to a few really nice, experienced, lesson horses and I am excited to be opening my barn doors to offer lessons on these carefully selected horses. I now can help you on your horse or mine.

I offer horsemanship and foundation lessons to multiple disciplines. I can help you with your general riding, improving your communication, balance and biomechanics in western disciplines or English disciplines. Beyond riding we can help you with your own horse with groundwork communication, trailer loading, behavioral issues, or struggles, regaining confidence after something like an accident or a long time away from the arena.

I bring to the table a wide verity of experiences from professional rodeo barrel racing to eventing, dressage, exercise riding racehorses, working under hall of fame cutters and riding with those experienced in reining. For the last 14yrs my main focus and passion has been on saddle starting c**ts of all worlds. I grew my knowledge for biomechanics and how they relate to all disciplines to be able to better serve my client horses that were going into the world in all different arenas.
My passion is for the horse and the horse industry and those that love them.
We can offer everything from helping the beginner gain safe confidence to challenging the advanced to sharpen their skills and reach new levels. I am actively competing in barrel racing and eventing so there are opportunities to travel with us and have a team behind you as you enter the competition arenas. Other local shows from other disciplines are possible as well. Let me know how I can help you reach your goals!

No matter what discipline or level you are in, basics not only apply but are where 90% of problems develop and are fixed.

I gave a fun lesson last night and although we are dealing with an experienced rider and a highly trained horse, we had to bring this basic discussion back into play. Sometimes I'm blown away by how many of my western riders come to me and seem to think this line of balance only applies to English riders. I've even had people who ride in both types of saddles say to me "oh but now I'm in a western saddle so it's different"
Truthfully there are western saddles to blame for this thinking. A trend has become to have forward hung stirrups, which is a false sense of security. True we sure don't want our feet to get behind us, but going the opposite direction and causing the feet to get in front and having all our weight flat on our bum, will restrict communication with the horse and balance of both.
It's not easy to hold this line of balance initially and takes alot of work and muscle development, but it's a core principle that is important to master.

One thing that is really driven home for me by my journey with climbing levels in both English and western disciplines....physics don't change. Balance is balance, for the horse and rider. Head carriage can change, saddles can change, styles can change, but horsemanship is horsemanship, equine communication and locomotion, still the same.
Body position, hand position, connection , rhythm and balance are the basics that have to be mastered AND constantly revisited no mater your level or discipline.
