Jennifer and Ryan Skinner, CF, APF, have a passion for starting young horses with a quiet and gentle, yet confident, hand. With a combined 40 years in a variety of aspects in the equine industry, they are capable of giving young horses a good all-around foundation suitable for whatever discipline they head into. Jennifer has been riding horses since she was a young girl, and became serious about b

arrel racing when she was 12. She has been schooled in the art of Dressage, was an assistant trainer in the cutting horse and show horse worlds, and was an equine veterinary technician, specializing in performance horse lameness, post-surgical care, and radiography, for seven years. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2014 with a BS in Animal Science - equine production. Ryan, owner of Skinner Farrier Services, has 20+ years of experience in therapeutic podiatry and performance horse shoeing, and is currently working on becoming a Certified Journeyman Farrier in the American Farriers Association. In addition to his farrier knowledge, he has SHOT show, working cow horse, and roping experience. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1999 with a degree in Agricultural Economics, and took many classes toward getting his masters in equine reproduction. Their combined knowledge of training and riding performance horses, competition, therapy and rehabilitation, and equine physiology and reproduction have enabled them to create a top-notch, full spectrum equine facility. They have also been able to create and nurture a large network of equine-focused individuals and businesses, which is the foundation for their equine marketing. High quality technology and knowledge of pedigrees, conformation, and movement allow them to properly train, prepare, and showcase horses for sale - their own and their clients. Draggin' S Arena and Stables, where JRS Performance Horses calls home, has a main barn with eleven 12' x 12' stalls, each with a covered 12' x 24' run. The main barn also has a set of stocks and a concrete wash rack. The property has a 60' round pen and an 85' x 100' cutting pen that are both lighted for nighttime use. The 165' x 250' roping sized arena also has lighting, a sound system, and boasts a Prefert roping chute. The arena is worked with a Revel 4N1 drag. The property also has multiple wooded acres and a creek, perfect for trail riding and photography backgrounds. Draggin' S Arena and Stables is conveniently located on OSR, between Highway 21 and Highway 6. Only 4.5 miles from Texas Equine Hospital, the Skinners have maintained a great working relationship with the doctors and staff at the vet clinic. Draggin' S is only 8 miles from the Brazos Valley Expo Center and within 15 minutes of three feed stores. The Skinners are just as passionate about their family as they are horses. Their seven kids can often be found out in the barn, on a pony, or helping at the shoeing truck.

Maggie is a 15.0hh 6yr old mare bred to be an athlete with a heart of gold. She was started under saddle by a reiner, then went into barrel racing training and did that for a bit, has been hauled all over and competed and seen the sights. We have recently discovered that although she was making money and doing ok at barrel racing, instead of dropping into the ground and turning hard, she is better at, and prefers, to get up and over things! She is a lovely hunter/jumper prospect. She has had a bunch of professional training so she has all kinds of soft and fancy buttons, she has a flying change and smooth, supple, easy transitions up and down. She has lateral movements and responds easily to her rider's seat and leg. She is so easy and kind to ride around I have given amateur and junior lessons on her. She is not hot or silly. She is NOT a blown up barrel horse, she just didn't love the dropping down deep to turn part as much so, on a whim, we decided to cross train her and found that she has great joy to be in an English saddle and go over things. She is smart with her feet, thoughtful and graceful. She has been vetted with clean radiographs, she has had chiropractic and bodywork. She is sound and healthy just shows more talent and promise for a different discipline than her family had intended her for. Contact us if you could see this sweet and talented young mare working in your program. Low five figures. We are located in Bryan TX

Colic is a nightmare I wish i could wake up from.
Dear Catalina, if I'd have known these were going to be the last pictures I'd have of you, I'd have stepped back and taken so many more. You were a beautiful giant with the most gentle soul. I'm so thankful I got the pleasure of caring for you and have the blessed opportunity to carry

Broodmares are the heart of our whole program. At a week over her due date Catalina's poor feet are getting a bit tender, she most definitely deserves some foot magnawave. Our broodmares are as valuable in our hearts as any performance horse, their comfort is just as important.
Any horse's comfort is our top priority, but today I shout out to the love of our mommas.

I love what the outside of the horse can do for the inside of a person. I love how they challenge us to grow and develop in our mind, body and character, they give us a reason to be better. The pure and honest art of horsemanship is one that deserves to be preserved and passed down and out.
Standing on this love, I have found a passion to teach. To help people get the most out of their equine relationships, to help them understand their partners and clear their communication.
I have been blessed to have the opportunity to be the home to a few really nice, experienced, lesson horses and I am excited to be opening my barn doors to offer lessons on these carefully selected horses. I now can help you on your horse or mine.

I offer horsemanship and foundation lessons to multiple disciplines. I can help you with your general riding, improving your communication, balance and biomechanics in western disciplines or English disciplines. Beyond riding we can help you with your own horse with groundwork communication, trailer loading, behavioral issues, or struggles, regaining confidence after something like an accident or a long time away from the arena.

I bring to the table a wide verity of experiences from professional rodeo barrel racing to eventing, dressage, exercise riding racehorses, working under hall of fame cutters and riding with those experienced in reining. For the last 14yrs my main focus and passion has been on saddle starting c**ts of all worlds. I grew my knowledge for biomechanics and how they relate to all disciplines to be able to better serve my client horses that were going into the world in all different arenas.
My passion is for the horse and the horse industry and those that love them.
We can offer everything from helping the beginner gain safe confidence to challenging the advanced to sharpen their skills and reach new levels. I am actively competing in barrel racing and eventing so there are opportunities to travel with us and have a team behind you as you enter the competition arenas. Other local shows from other disciplines are possible as well. Let me know how I can help you reach your goals!

No matter what discipline or level you are in, basics not only apply but are where 90% of problems develop and are fixed.

I gave a fun lesson last night and although we are dealing with an experienced rider and a highly trained horse, we had to bring this basic discussion back into play. Sometimes I'm blown away by how many of my western riders come to me and seem to think this line of balance only applies to English riders. I've even had people who ride in both types of saddles say to me "oh but now I'm in a western saddle so it's different"
Truthfully there are western saddles to blame for this thinking. A trend has become to have forward hung stirrups, which is a false sense of security. True we sure don't want our feet to get behind us, but going the opposite direction and causing the feet to get in front and having all our weight flat on our bum, will restrict communication with the horse and balance of both.
It's not easy to hold this line of balance initially and takes alot of work and muscle development, but it's a core principle that is important to master.

One thing that is really driven home for me by my journey with climbing levels in both English and western disciplines....physics don't change. Balance is balance, for the horse and rider. Head carriage can change, saddles can change, styles can change, but horsemanship is horsemanship, equine communication and locomotion, still the same.
Body position, hand position, connection , rhythm and balance are the basics that have to be mastered AND constantly revisited no mater your level or discipline.

This is Cream Puff. She is about a 3-4hr old paint. She was part of a very large seizure of animals in south Texas off of an 800 acre ranch. There are a whole herd of horses, but it's mostly been untouched. I am assisting Bluebonnet equine, rescue and rehabbing caring for them and trying to help place them into Foster's and eventually adoptive homes. Most of these horses are nice quarter horse type horses and could really make good mounts. Cream puff and her sister pumpkin spice have really floaty pretty movement and I think could even make some nice English horses. We are looking for some competent horse people that would be interested in helping us take on some of these projects. Send me a message if you want to know more about the foster or adoption process.

I needed a head shot with a horse for a volunteer thing I am doing, so my wonderful husband stepped up to the plate to get on the opposite side of the camera. But, first I had to get my setting right on the camera and check to make sure the light was right with a decent background, so I made him stand with Diggy and be the subject for a moment. As they stood there I realized what was in my frame was a similar kind of being in two different forms. If Diggy was a human, he would be just like Ryan and it Ryan was a horse, he would probably be just like Diggy. Selfless, bold, so strong and powerful while being the kindest and most gentle soul all while being the true definition of a work horse. Wiling to take on anything and everything thrown his direction with unending grit and determination, no mater the circumstances, knowing no limitations. Tell him he can't and he will not only succeed, but will excel. Always with a "yes ma'am" and a humble heart.
Yes, in this picture I got some chills to see so many over flowing blessings captured in one frame. God blessed me with such a strong, loving and powerful life long partner to share my life with, to lean on when we get into a bind and celebrate with in our many victories. Then to throw a cherry on top, He created a horse just like him and lent him to me to grace my barn with for a time. My cup overflows!

Many of you know my phone (Jennifer's) bit the dust and getting a new one was a longer process than I intended. But those that didnt know that, I cant even get texts to my phone number so please email ([email protected]), or DM on messenger if you are trying to get a hold of me. Hoping today or tomorrow a new phone will be in and this wont be an issue. Thank you to my clients for your grace and patients over this last week with my weird forms of communication.

A little clearer video showcasing Saylor's super trainable mind, this is only a 10ish rides and the 3rd time out of the round pen and look and how soft she is and wants to listen to what my body is doing. A soft lope, smooth trot and a very natural stop!

So excited for Saylor to head to her new home! Can't wait to see all she accomplishes 😊

We have a couple worth checking out right now. Saylor is a 2yr old Driftwood bred Grullo filly that has just been started under saddle. She is kind and sweet and so very smart. Working with her is just a pleasure. She has about 10 or so rides so far. She is just stunning to look at, so graceful in her movement, light and eager to please. She would make a versatility delux for sure. Stands about 14.3 and should mature to the mid 15.1-15.2hh range. Solid made foundations lines in a PRETTY package! Not an easy find!

New updated pictures as this c**t just keeps getting more beautiful. With prices of things climbing and vet bills stacking up. For a limited time, we are going to lower his 🏷️. If he doesn't move, I have no problem keeping him this round and putting more training on him in the spring. I'll just make some different decisions other places.

Many times I put my first rides on by myself, but when one tends to want to get nervous, a nice, familiar face and feel on the ground can be a good security blanket for them. I'm very thankful for Meagan Blevins's soft demeanor, feel and confidence that she brings to situations to keep these rides going smooth, relaxed and positive. What a nice ride for Saylor ❤️

Some days training is hard. Some days it's extra hard. The heat can make it almost unbearable, but if we always look for the little victories and the little blessings, we can find them readily. The horse gives us a look into our own soul, sometimes that's hard, sometimes it unimaginably beautiful.
I'm thankful this morning for a light breeze, a beautiful sunrise and a magnificent, soft and responsive Grullo filly to get the pleasure of gaining the trust of. Up next, a first ride for this stunning 2yr old. ❤️

All right, changing it up a little here, got a cool little pony prospect for consideration.
Gummy Bear is a yearling pony gelding raised here. His momma is our sweet Princess, who is one of our best kid ponies (she also has that mega fancy hair gene with a mane that goes down past her shoulder!). Gummy Bear has been handled plenty, bathed, groomed, tied, round penned, but he can be a little feisty still. He has had a pony saddle on, and we have climbed all around him. Sure, he is still young and spunky, but as an up and coming project, he is a blast with a big personality, and has the brains, disposition, and movement to be a great pony.
Should mature around 12hh
