Look at this huge Miyama Turnip! 🫜

This variety is still my favorite out of the different ones I've grown. They grow big, are mild enough to eat raw, and have great texture! We cut and cooked these (greens included) up to go in our soup for dinner. Everyone loved it and we have enough leftover to eat it again tomorrow.

What feels cozy to you? 💬

I enjoy a simmering pot of broth, a hot cup of a delicious drink (with a touch of spicy), fire in the wood stove, the smell of baking bread, snuggles from my toddler, and the presence of my husband.

I'd love to hear some things that feel cozy to you!

How do I like my Earth Runners?

The proof is in the tan lines. Before Earth Runners, I couldn't even walk around my house for a few minutes barefoot without feeling as if the tendons in my feet were being torn. The pain happened whenever my old style of flip flops would wear out too. I got Earth Runners in the hope of improving my foot flexibility and strength and I do believe they have done just that.

What barefoot shoe company do you like?

I saw a guy on "U"-Tube make a small restaurants worth amount of biscuits and gravy. I thought, "That would feed us for a few meals!" So, after some begging from one of my daughters, I went ahead and made some today.

That served at a mid afternoon snack, now I'm making shepherds pie for dinner and I still need to finish the birthday cake.

My word of advice for easing your workload in the kitchen is to try to regularly make two to three times the amount that your family will eat in one meal, that way you're making two or three meals in just a little over the time it takes to make one.

Second word of advice, if you like using cast iron, but your typical 12 inch pan isn't big enough for a double or triple recipe, get the giant pan. It's worth it!

I was cracking duck eggs for my daughter's birthday cake and the last one was a double yolker! It's a chilly rainy day, but it's cozy enough indoors with a cake in the oven and the gentle rain outside.

What are you doing today?

We went thrifting! I was hoping to find something specific for a friend, but was unsuccessful. We did find some goodies though.

We found a set of authentic matryoshka dolls, a cotton wreath, artwork of a unicorn with foals, oven mitts, a silk lined wool coat (TAHARI), and candle sticks!

Now for the explanations!

Seven of my siblings were adopted from Russia, so I've been interested in Russia from a young age. Mom always brought back some things she had bought while in Russia and matryoshka dolls were one of those things. I didn't get to keep any of them when Mom passed away, so I'm thankful to have found these.

My daughter Aelia actually found the unicorn print and I agreed with her that it was a nice piece of art. We plan on buying it a more complementary frame.

I've never had a door wreath, if you didn't know, they tend to be ridiculously expensive. This one was four bucks and didn't have glitter on it like the other cotton one that was there.

Handsome wanted to get Corabell a good coat, at first he found a North Face jacket, but then he saw this wool coat. I tried it on and it was a little too small for me which meant it should fit Corabell well. To top it off, TAHARI is apparently an extremely expensive brand and this silk lined wool blend coat may have cost multiple hundreds of dollars new, but we bought it for only $13.

If you've seen my post about preferred oven mitts, you may know that I needed some new oven mitts. Honestly, until today I didn't even know Goodwill sold oven mitts, but I found some I wanted to try and now I can toss my worm out ones away.

Candle sticks are surprisingly expensive, but this large set was only four bucks!

What are you on the lookout for when you go thrifting? 💬

A generous lady that works with my mother in law blessed us with all these pumpkins!

These will not go to waste! They will be used to feed us, some will be preserved, and some will nourish and deworm our poultry. I'm always so thankful to receive peoples pumpkins when they're finished with them!

Thank you Dede!

So, how did my first time managing our Thanksgiving go?

Wonderfully.

I started preparing four days ahead of time and made progress each day. Family helped with various tasks from cooking to cleaning. It really was a great experience without any stressful moments.

I've come to the conclusion that Thanksgiving is a holiday with three components to enjoy:

1. Preparation

During the days leading up to Thanksgiving your doing cooking and cleaning with your family, which in and of itself is a time of fellowship.

2. Feasting & Fellowship

The focal point of Thanksgiving where you enjoy the fruit of everyone's labor along with conversations with family and friends that are present.

3. Leftovers

Post Thanksgiving leftovers are definitely something to be thankful for as they feed the family for days after the celebration.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving next week! My side of the family will be celebrating next week, so I get to look forward to a second Thanksgiving.

My children put the dirt in dirty.

At least it's not mud this time.

Did you have fun getting filthy playing outside when you were little? 💬

Once when I was young we had a massive mud fight in the pond that couldn't hold water. We got covered in that thick mud! We got caught before we got cleaned up too and got in trouble.
