Just a quick picture of the April born Monopoly club calf county fair steer for sale. He was just put on creep feed and hasn’t been brought in the barn yet. Were behind on getting calves in the barn but I think he’d make for good county fair steer.

We weaned our 2022 calf crop today to ring in the new year!

As we look back on 2022 we just want thank everyone for their support of our dreams.

Beef 🥩 is ***very limited for 2023, as we had almost all heifers calves and well we don’t eat those 😂

But Matt and I have worked hard this year to purchase more cattle that way in future years we have plenty of beef to go around!

Great news we had preg check this morning and all of our cows are pregnant!

Be on the look out we have cows bred for show steers and show heifers due to calve next spring.

We feel so fortunate to have each and everyone of our cows bred!

We’ve been busy with our cows calving! We’re 5/5 in the heifer department some purebreds some commercials. We have been so fortunate that all of our calves and cows are healthy they have been dealt with these hard couple of months.

We have so much to be thankful for this year, each year we feel more richly blessed than the last and we don’t know how that is possible.

We are so thankful for our sweet Olive who loves her calves and cows. And for another little cowgirl on the way. It brings such joy to our hearts and tears to our eyes knowing we can raise our girls in the lifestyle we love.

For our loyal dog Waylon who waits for us by the gate.

For our healthy momma cows that work hard each year to provide us with a healthy calf that grows our herd.

For our family and friends that literally make our lifestyle of raising beef possible.

And for all of YOU who support us through purchasing Solin Beef. It’s been so rewarding to sell beef to our neighbors near and far. To hear such thoughtful and meaningful comments back on the quality of our beef. To know that our beef raised by us feeds your family.

Happy weaned calves is always reassuring and a great sight!

These calves were fully weaned tonight using “quiet weans” (highly recommended to our fellow cattlemen)

Matt and I love using them as it is low stress and we feel easiest on the calves and the cows.

All of these calves besides four of them will be freezer beef that we will sell to our neighbors and community members. We take pride in that, we want the best beef for you our consumers. (Just like other farmers who raise your food products!)

These calves were handled with the best possible practices, worked quietly and calmly, no one was pushed, and no one cried for their moms.

After only being in their new pen about 10 minutes they came to the feed bunk and began to eat. That in itself is a testament to how calm and comfortable these calves are already.

Stay tuned for some shorthorn calves next spring ❤️

When we bring our beef cows into the front pen where they will be sorted into the chute, we work hard to do so calmly and quietly! We make sure they stay relaxed. This year, Matt and I went back to artificially inseminating our cows, so these girls are being brought in to be synced up to be bred. The cows will be bred to a variety of different bulls. Then, our bull will be turned out to breed whoever didn’t get pregnant from A.I. Our current bull is one that we raised ourselves out of one of our very best SimAngus cows. We are pretty proud of him!

Calving is always fun!

We are super pleased with our bull from Shea Esser from ECO Angus that bred all of our cows last year.

Normally, Matt and I breed our cows to calve in March and April. Our winters up here are brutal, and winter sticks around a lot longer than in southern Wisconsin. We are pretty busy in those early “spring” months making sure when a cow is getting close to calving, she is brought into a paddock closer to the calving barn where she can be watched even more closely and brought into the barn when the time is right. This year, our cows calved in May and June which we really liked and still works out with our end goal. This calf crop is all bred by the same purebred Angus bull we rented. We are so happy with these calves and appreciate a bull that can get the job done in a short amount of time, create healthy unassisted calves on the ground, and calves that grow great.

Our sweet Mello, the first heifer we bought together! Look at those young kids ;)

Matt is a 5th generation farmer, and I grew up showing Shorthorn heifers across the states. We both have a deep love for farming and our beef cattle. We work hard to give them the best life possible. (As most farmers do!) When we first “put our herds together” we had the vision of producing show stock. Now, our vision is a bit different. We still want to create high-quality cattle, but we have focused more on raising our cattle for our community members to enjoy and have immersed ourselves in the “meat business”. In the past couple of years, we started to directly sell our beef to our community members. Now there is nothing that leaves our farm that doesn’t come back to our farm. Meaning all steers and heifers that are not kept for replacement females are raised for beef packages. All cows that are culled from our herd will be made into beef sticks, one of our best sellers! All while keeping in mind our daughter will hopefully be showing soon just like her parents were back in the day!

My name is Sam, and this is my husband Matt and our daughter, Olive. We enjoy raising kids and cows together in North Central Wisconsin in Langlade County. As you can see in the background, we have quite a mix of color in our cows, and that is just the way we like it. Our herd is comprised of purebred Shorthorn, Shorthorn Plus, Angus, and commercial cows. I hope you enjoy our !

Today is National Agriculture Day!

We as consumers are so fortunate to be able to have such a wide variety of food options and be able get out food from a array of different places.

But all that food comes from our friends, the farmers!
