We are so excited to partner with Fix Georgia Pets for a low-cost Spay and Neuter Day here at the Furkids Headquarters on July 20th! One thing Furkids and Fix GA Pets have in common is the desire to keep people and pets together, and we are thrilled to be able to provide affordable spay and neuter services to families in need.

It's true that cats don't add - they multiply! With the highest number of intakes we have ever seen, the importance of spaying and neutering your pets cannot be understated.

*Services for this clinic are offered for cats and kittens only. Up to two companion cats per person. Cats must be brought in a carrier. Reservations are REQUIRED for this event, and space will be limited to the first 80 cats. Please email [email protected] to reserve your spot.

We had a few adoptions today!!

First, a very special adoption for mama Babushka, now Chex Mix, is home with her new family and on a treatment plan for her broken tooth that turned into an abscess. The family is already so in love and spoiling her rotten!

And then 2 of our kittens, Pinky and Brain, got adopted!

Thank you to both families for opening your hearts and homes to our babies! We know they will all be spoiled rotten!

"You've gotta stop thinking like a frog and start acting like prince charming."

All the way from Bayside High, we’d like to introduce you to Zach, A C Slater, and Screech! These boys are goofy and full of s***k! Screech gets the zoomies and loves to run! Slater loves to be loved and has the cutest crooked tail, and Zach will do just about anything for a treat!

These 3 dogs are all 6 years or older and are all under 25lbs. Slater and Zach are wire hair terrier mixes and Screech terrier mix.

Kylo says he’s ready to report for duty! He has excellent customer service skills and accepts treats and cuddles as forms of payment. He sure has come a long way from the feral bite kitten that came in a few weeks ago.

Kylo is a black tabby domestic short hair and is around 3 months old. He is very sweet and loves to be held. Due to a previous bite, a waiver will need to be signed at time of adoption. The bite was due to someone grabbing him and scaring him.

We had 2 adoptions today!!! Duchess and our Great Pyrenees were both adopted out to wonderful families and we couldn’t be happier! The GP owner drove 3 hours just to adopt him!

This sweet old lady right here is Babushka. We are guessing she is somewhere around 8 years old.

She came to us last week as a stray. Since then, we have learned a few things about her. She is very sweet and is a social eater. Because of this she is in the thinner side because she can be reluctant to eat. She does, however love Chex mix. She broke into an employees secret stash when she first came in. She loves beds and anything with a cushion and loves cuddles. She is the perfect lap cat.

Now onto the now so great news. Babushka has a few broken teeth, including a K9. She is likely need them removed and also requires canned food and sometimes shredded chicken to be able to eat.

If you think you can give this old lady the love and care she needs, come on down to meet her! She is available for adoption or rescue!

Couldn't have said it better ourselves! Whenever your dogs are outside, make sure to check on them often with these ever climbing temps!

☀️🥵Summer heat can sometimes be uncomfortable for people to be outdoors, and the same is true for your beloved pets. 🦮🐶

Heat stroke in dogs is a serious condition that occurs when their body temperature becomes too high, often due to exposure to high temperatures and humidity. Here are some important things:

🐶Dogs that are more susceptible to heat stroke:
❕Heavy coated dogs
❕Old and young
❕Overweight
❕Flat faced dogs, like pugs and French Bulldogs
❕Dogs with pre-existing health conditions like heart or lung disease .

☀️ What to do if you suspect heat stroke:

1. Move your dog to a cool, shaded area immediately
2. Provide cool water to drink (but not too much)
3. Use cool compresses or wet cloths to lower their body temperature
4. Seek veterinary attention right away.

*Prevention is key:*

✅ Walk your dog early in the morning or late at night, not during the hottest times, typically 11 to 3 PM.
✅ Avoid or restrict running around outside.
✅ Don’t leave them in a car.
✅ Don’t leave your dog outside without shade and water, ideally inside where it is cooler.
✅ Help keep them cool with a pool, hose or sprinkler.
✅ Cold face cloth or towel to keep their pads

Remember, heat stroke can be life-threatening, so it's crucial to take it seriously and take prompt action if you suspect your dog is suffering.

Yesterday, our sweet girl Audra got adopted by the sweetest little boy and his family! The giggles that filled our lobby with this new found friendship was to die for! Thank you guys so much for giving our girl a very well deserved loving home!

***RESCUED!!!***

This sweet little girl is River. She is quite possibly the sweetest girl to have ever come into our shelter! So sweet, in fact, that we had to separate her from her 2 sisters because they were bullying her and she wouldn’t stand up for herself. When you walk out of a room she will sit there until you come back.

She knows basic commands and is house broken. She has some beautiful teeth leading us to believe she is right at a year old. She is a collie mix and is full grown at around 40lbs. Come meet this sweet girl today!
