~~~~~~IMPORTANT~~~~~~ ~~~~~PLEASE SHARE~~~~~
We have found it necessary to develop a new Deogie’s Backyard Rescue page . The old one can’t be grown the way we are growing. So in the best interest of both the animals that need our help and the goals we continue to work for , we have made the new page. This original page will remain active for the next 2 weeks as we send out invites to all who have joined us through following our page or enjoy watching what we are doing in and around Wayne County , as well as those wonderful supporters from many other states that Network with us in our rescue efforts. If we miss you in our invites please know it is an oversight, because each and everyone of you are important to us and to the success of Deogie’s B R. If you don’t get an invite please contact me through this original page or my personal page so that we can be sure to send you one. Your continued support, prayers, shares, suggestions, ideas, and assistance is vital to the success of the rescue. May God Bless, Lead, and Keep us all. Prayers , love, and Thanks, from us all ,Kristie, Michelle, and Jessica
Deogies needs help . These are SOME of the fur babies we are presently caring for. Our bank account is at rock bottom. There is nothing left. We have food, thank you to all the loyal food donors ! We have dog houses, thanks to all that have made it that happen ! We have kennel materials , thank you Murray Windham and Jessie Cardona ! We have basic medicines thank you Sidney Reon and J.S.A. Lewis. We have blankets, thank you Samaritans Cliset and Pantry, we have Crates and carriers thank you J S A Lewis. We need cash flow for Vet services, flea and tick treatment, vaccines, wormer, heart worm preventatives, heart worm treatment, mange treatment, scabies treatment, spaying and neutering, we need travel fuel to pick up, Take to dr appointments, to meet the transport vans, to do wellness checks, etc. Our nonprofit application has been sent in. Once approved we can get help from the city and the county, as well as get grants to help, but until then we have to rely 100% on you, the animal lovers of the world , you that has to change the channel when the starving and freezing fur babies come on the screen. Can you please help . Any amount helps . What about the Betty White Challenge. On her Birthday January 17th, won’t you donate $5 in her memory. If i sound like I’m begging, it’s because I am, thats how bad it is. I shouldn’t have taken the last one in, but I did. I know you wanted me to. You can donate through Deogie’s PayPal account or at Blake’s Florist in Waynesboro. Unfortunately the Vets office has decided not to take direct donations to pay on Deogie’s account. They have to come through one of Deogie’s Board of Directors. If you use PayPal, would you consider making your $5 donation a monthly donation. It’s not much to us humans, but boy oh boy can it save the life of one of these babies. Please share so we can reach a huge number of people so that those $5 can really add up. God Bless and keep us all.🙏🥰
I’m thinking our sweet Ebony would like to be a lap dog. She a serious snuggler that’s for sure. This is a sweet sweet girl and wants only to please everyone she meets. She has so much love to give someone if they will only be willing to receive it. ❤️
This is awesome ! I’m just as proud of all of the animal loving donors who have made it possible for Deogie’s B R and myself , before starting Deogie’s, to help save over 100 dogs from South MS in 2021. Know your worth , please. You are so valuable . Without you NONE of these happy endings would happen .❤️
Wayne County MS
This is a lil family I’m saying no to at this time. I don’t want to say no, however , our finances for medical care are critically low. Barely covering the 8 puppies and 7 adults presently being cared for by Deogie’s . If we can get up the funds to vet these I can bring them to the rescue. Without the funds to care for them I absolutely have to say no. Our food is in great shape thanks to our loyal food donors, we have hay and blankets as needed, but it’s a big no no to bring animals into the rescue without being able to vet them. Our PayPal account is always open to receive the financial help needed and now Waynesboro Animal Clinic is once again allowing donations to be paid directly to our Deogie’s Account there. Won’t you help me so I don’t have to say no? No amount is too small. Ebony , the machete attack victim, received enough to cover her medical expenses by donors that donated $5 to $20 each mostly ? And her bill was $480. So all we need is for some good people to make small donations and I won’t have to say no. Thanks in advance y’all !
These are 6 puppies I took on this week to go along with the 2 already at Deogie’s and the 7 adults. Our dog food situation is great right now thanks to all our loyal food donors. I have plenty blankets and hay also . However our funds for the medical needs and vetting is so low unless we raise some money to cover medical expenses I will have to say no to a small family that needs Deogie’s right now. You can always donate through Deogie’s PayPal account or directly to Waynesboro Animal Clinic. Just stipulate the Donation is for Deogie’s Backyard Rescue. My next post will include a pic of the new family that needs Me to get them, but without the needed finances for vetting I have to say no. That is just a no no in the rescue world . A rescue cannot take in animals if they have no resources for medical care. Please give what your can. No donation is too small.
Update on Ebony ! She’s doing great. Probably the smartest dog I’ve ever dealt with . Even my personal pets past and present. I’ve had her 2 weeks, she will stay, lay, and crate on demand . She will sit with her head up to leash her. She will go to the door and whine for a bathroom trip. She will “NO CAT!” ,on demand . 🤣. As you see in the pictures, Dr Sims , with Waynesboro Animal Clinic, did an awesome job sewing up the machete wound. Yes she popped a couple stitches but from my experience it’s good for drainage with such a deep wound. She is a very young adult, full of energy, my lil house dogs hate her . Lol. She’s bigger than them, and moves fast wherever she’s going. She kinda wants to play with them but they don’t give her much chance. From the last 2 pictures to the first 3 , 3 weeks have past since she came to us. I think she’s doing great. All because I knew there were people out there willing to help her through donations for her medical care. Without y’all supporting the animals the way you do , she would have been euthanized, so I want to thank all of you that donated to her care ! The $5, $10, $20 ,$25, and $50 donations added up and we were able to cover all but $80 of her vet bill concerning the machete attack. Isn’t that awesome? She’s finished up all but one of her meds so we will be starting next with her basic vaccines, testing , and will make an appointment to have her spayed ! Y’all she’s sleek and shiny, loving, and smart. I think she’s bulldog and lab. She’s got a rippled muscle structure , but the face of a lab. Her eyes are as black has her fur and she’ll look you directly in your eyes with the look of love and appreciation. Oh what a “Good Girl” this is ! No, I’m not keeping her for my self. The more kept the less rescued . My 3 are all I can keep and I’m holding myself to that. 🥰. Thanks again y’all for paying her vet bill and the prayers I know went up for her recovery ! Much love ❤️
Update on lil Larry. Sorry I’m late on updates. Between getting the 6 pack litter and the spare for transport, and cleaning and disinfecting the 4 kennels the were using, I’ve just been stretched out. He’s the most recent fellow and was suffering from , low body weight , worms and an advanced case of scabies. About 6-8 weeks old when dumped. Thought a little older at first, but his behavior showed him to be younger than first thought. He’s sooooo much better. Still looks rough , but got his 3rd sulphur dip today so he will look better day by day. He has started growing hair back around his eyes but has lost a lot in other places as the scabs come off. He’s down to just a few scabs on the backside of his left front leg. Can’t wait to see him as his hair all comes back. I think he’s going the be a big fluffy boy. Anyway he’ll be up for adoption once I know he’s all clear. He’s had his first round of vaccines and wormer now that he’s doing so much better so another 2 weeks and I think he should be ready for his forever family. Please share in hopes of helping us find him one. Thanks to all that help in any way !
Angels
"Watch out! You nearly broad sided that car!" My father yelled at me. "Can't you do anything right?"
Those words hurt worse than blows. I turned my head toward the elderly man in the seat beside me, daring me to challenge him. A lump rose in my throat as I averted my eyes. I wasn't prepared for another battle.
"I saw the car, Dad. Please don't yell at me when I'm driving."
My voice was measured and steady, sounding far calmer than I really felt.
Dad glared at me, then turned away and settled back. At home I left Dad in front of the television and went outside to collect my thoughts.... dark, heavy clouds hung in the air with a promise of rain. The rumble of distant thunder seemed to echo my inner turmoil. What could I do about him?
Dad had been a lumberjack in Washington and Oregon. He had enjoyed being outdoors and had reveled in pitting his strength against the forces of nature. He had entered grueling lumberjack competitions, and had placed often. The shelves in his house were filled with trophies that attested to his prowess.
The years marched on relentlessly. The first time he couldn't lift a heavy log, he joked about it; but later that same day I saw him outside alone, straining to lift it. He became irritable whenever anyone teased him about his advancing age, or when he couldn't do something he had done as a younger man.
Four days after his sixty-seventh birthday, he had a heart attack. An ambulance sped him to the hospital while a paramedic administered CPR to keep blood and oxygen flowing.
At the hospital, Dad was rushed into an operating room. He was lucky; he survived. But something inside Dad died. His zest for life was gone. He obstinately refused to follow doctor's orders. Suggestions and offers of help were turned aside with sarcasm and insults. The number of visitors thinned, then finally stopped altogether. Dad was left alone.
My husband, Dick, and I asked Dad to come live with us on our small farm. We hoped the fresh air and rustic atmosphere would help him adjust.
Within a week after he moved in, I regretted the invitation. It seemed nothing was satisfactory. He criticized everything I did. I became frustrated and moody. Soon I was taking my pent-up anger out on Dick. We began to bicker and argue.
Alarmed, Dick sought out our pastor and explained the situation. The clergyman set up weekly counseling appointments for us. At the close of each session he prayed, asking God to soothe Dad's troubled mind.
But the months wore on and God was silent. Something had to be done and it was up to me to do it.
The next day I sat down with the phone book and methodically called each of the mental health clinics listed in the Yellow Pages. I explained my problem to each of the sympathetic voices that answered in vain.
Just when I was giving up hope, one of the voices suddenly exclaimed, "I just read something that might help you! Let me go get the article..."
I listened as she read. The article described a remarkable study done at a nursing home. All of the patients were under treatment for chronic depression. Yet their attitudes had improved dramatically when they were given responsibility for a dog.
I drove to the animal shelter that afternoon. After I filled out a questionnaire, a uniformed officer led me to the kennels. The odor of disinfectant stung my nostrils as I moved down the row of pens. Each contained five to seven dogs. Long-haired dogs, curly-haired dogs, black dogs, spotted dogs all jumped up, trying to reach me.
I studied each one but rejected one after the other for various reasons: too big, too small, too much hair. As I neared the last pen a dog in the shadows of the far corner struggled to his feet, walked to the front of the run and sat down. It was a pointer, one of the dog world's aristocrats. But this was a caricature of the breed.
Years had etched his face and muzzle with shades of gray. His hip bones jutted out in lopsided triangles. But it was his eyes that caught and held my attention. Calm and clear, they beheld me unwaveringly.
I pointed to the dog. "Can you tell me about him?" The officer looked, then shook his head in puzzlement. "He's a funny one. Appeared out of nowhere and sat in front of the gate. We brought him in, figuring someone would be right down to claim him. That was two weeks ago and we've heard nothing. His time is up tomorrow." He gestured helplessly.
As the words sank in I turned to the man in horror. "You mean you're going to kill him?"
"Ma'am," he said gently, "that's our policy. We don't have room for every unclaimed dog."
I looked at the pointer again. The calm brown eyes awaited my decision. "I'll take him," I said. I drove home with the dog on the front seat beside me. When I reached the house I honked the horn twice. I was helping my prize out of the car when Dad shuffled onto the front porch. "Ta-da! Look what I got for you, Dad!" I said excitedly.
Dad looked, then wrinkled his face in disgust. "If I had wanted a dog I would have gotten one. And I would have picked out a better specimen than that bag of bones. Keep it! I don't want it" Dad waved his arm scornfully and turned back toward the house.
Anger rose inside me. It squeezed together my throat muscles and pounded into my temples. "You'd better get used to him, Dad. He's staying!"
Dad ignored me. "Did you hear me, Dad?" I screamed. At those words Dad whirled angrily, his hands clenched at his sides, his eyes narrowed and blazing with hate. We stood glaring at each other like duelists, when suddenly the pointer pulled free from my grasp. He wobbled toward my dad and sat down in front of him. Then slowly, carefully, he raised his paw...
Dad's lower jaw trembled as he stared at the uplifted paw. Confusion replaced the anger in his eyes. The pointer waited patiently. Then Dad was on his knees hugging the animal.
It was the beginning of a warm and intimate friendship. Dad named the pointer Cheyenne . Together he and Cheyenne explored the community. They spent long hours walking down dusty lanes. They spent reflective moments on the banks of streams, angling for tasty trout. They even started to attend Sunday services together, Dad sitting in a pew and Cheyenne lying quietly at is feet.
Dad and Cheyenne were inseparable throughout the next three years. Dad 's bitterness faded, and he and Cheyenne made many friends. Then late one night I was startled to feel Cheyenne 's cold nose burrowing through our bed covers. He had never before come into our bedroom at night. I woke Dick, put on my robe and ran into my father's room. Dad lay in his bed, his face serene. But his spirit had left quietly sometime during the night.
Two days later my shock and grief deepened when I discovered Cheyenne lying dead beside Dad's bed. I wrapped his still form in the rag rug he had slept on. As Dick and I buried him near a favorite fishing hole, I silently thanked the dog for the help he had given me in restoring Dad's peace of mind.
The morning of Dad's funeral dawned overcast and dreary. This day looks like the way I feel, I thought, as I walked down the aisle to the pews reserved for family. I was surprised to see the many friends Dad and Cheyenne had made filling the church. The pastor began his eulogy. It was a tribute to both Dad and the dog who had changed his life.
And then the pastor turned to Hebrews 13:2. "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it."
"I've often thanked God for sending that angel," he said.
For me, the past dropped into place, completing a puzzle that I had not seen before: the sympathetic voice that had just read the right article... Cheyenne 's unexpected appearance at the animal shelter... his calm acceptance and complete devotion to my father... and the proximity of their deaths. And suddenly I understood. I knew that God had answered my prayers after all.
Life is too short for drama or petty things, so laugh hard, love truly and forgive quickly. Live while you are alive. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second chance.
And if you don't send this to anyone -- no one will know. But do share this with someone. Lost time can never be found.
God answers our prayers in His time... not ours...
God doesn't give us what we can handle, He helps us handle (stands with us, and gets us thru) what we are given. In other words, God's Grace keeps Pace with what we Face!!
Here we go again ! Dumped in the middle of State Line MS this morning. Silver car pulled up put him out at a store and drive off. He is thought to be 7 to 8 weeks old. Horribly advanced case of scabies, full of worms , and under his thick fur, nothing but a bag of bones. Today we got him dipped at the vet and got him a nexgard. This will give him some immediate relief . He’s been fed once and will be again this evening. Tomorrow we will begin the worming and he will get his first vaccines. In a week another sulfur dip, another week the 2nd worming, and another week 2nd vaccination. By then he will be free and clear of both scabies and worms, vaccinated and safe fir either adoption or transport . He’s gonna be a big beauty y’all, wait and see. Don’t look like much now but give me 3 weeks .😁❤️🙏. He does not feel very good right now bless his heart. He hasn’t made a sound in hours. Hims just resting in warmth and comfort like he never knew existed. We are calling him Larry. I am full and shouldn’t have gone to get him when I was called, but you can see why I did. Besides he has to be quarantined in a crate and won’t need a kennel for a couple weeks and I hope to have more ready by then.
Great news !!!!!! Waynesboro Animal Clinic will now accept payment donation on Deogie’s Backyard Rescue Account. As of now only Ebony, the victim of the machete attack has an outstanding bill. All others have been paid off as the bills were made. As of last Wednesday Ebony’s was just over $400. They took the drain out today and I am taking her home with me to test and complete her healing process. As of now we still don’t have our 501c3 nonprofit status, application should be finalized this week so it won’t be long, until then donations are not tax deductible. If you would like a receipt when you pay directly to the Animal Clinic for one of our rescues, just let me know and I will get one to you. Y’all, on behalf of all the fur babies y’all are helping through Deogie’s, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and pray blessings on you all ! May God bless and keep you and all who you love ! 🙏❤️
Hey wanna thank everyone for the generous donations of food coming in ! ❤️. It has caused a lil Dilemma though. How to store it. Right now we have 27 bags of dog food in the shelves in the shed. Gotta get them in something tha closes by screwing on. 2 rescues share the shed as their sleeping quarters. I filled up the only 2 containers We have. These 30 gallon food grade barrels will keep our food donations safe. We think 5 more will be sufficient to hold it all. Only 4 are 50 lb bags the rest are 15lbs. If you have one you can spare that would be great. Sometimes you can find them on Market place. The one in the pic is 30 gal I believe. And that the right size for our needs. If you wanna help us buy one , throw us up $5 or $10 on Deogie’s PayPal and specify or let me know it’s for food barrels. It’s a tough time of year we know. Unfortunately no slowdown in this unfortunate issue. If you are in Wayne County MS you can drop one off at Randall Blake’s Florist in the shopping center behind Burger King. Any type donations are accepted their for us. Have a very Merry Christmas everyone ! 🙏❤️🐈🐕🐈‍⬛🦮https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=YP75RAMH3NP7N
Puppies pictured are part of a 6 pack. The smallest is One the other is Two. Three, Four, Five(only girl), and Six are in other kennels. 😁
