Lots of chicken and four people made this photo shoot possible! So excited Fate gave us so much trust. We were not sure what she would be comfortable doing. We just took it moment by moment and we’re so amazed!!! Likewise with Sorka. Although we did think Sorka was going to be chill with props and such as she’s handled some invasive medical care like a trooper, a few times. Both girls are looking for a home for the holidays. All of these dogs were once homeless. For a variety of reasons. Some were strays at county and some were roaming the streets. Dino was a dog rescued from a junk yard over two years ago and is still looking for his forever home. We don’t always get dogs who can progress to being reliably off leash, but when we do get them, it is so rewarding. And it can be huge for building their confidence, which is the main focus with our extreme fear dogs. It also meets their needs to smell, explore and run. We are incredibly lucky to have open dirt roads and farm fields around us still. Eventually the development that was slated to start in 2021, will start getting built in the fields north of this road. We’ve taken advantage of the delay for sure! It’s been a morning. A crate full of diarrhea greeted me when I woke up, later a dog whose ear got injured during turn outs, cats having some health concerns, a sick spouse, one of the adult kids still living at home, lost his glasses while on a road trip. Definitely would prefer to be back at the river! 🫣💦 🐶
The enjoyment of rolling in dead fish, overrode common sense. A lot. ☠️🐟🤢😂😂😂
Blu’s confidence has come a very long way! Some might say, to far! 😂 She can be a very rough player. But she is respectful of the dogs in the pack who don’t want to be that rough. When we woke up Saturday to over cast weather, I was excited to be able to get the gang out on a longer off leash walk! This heat wave has been challenging! Understandably the weekend is prime time for tons of people at the river, so we stay home. I haven’t previously been comfortable letting the dogs go into canal when it’s running this fast. But after the trips to the river I have a lot more confidence in the dogs handling the water currents, and staying calm when they find themselves needing to get out of a tight spot.
Letting your dog solve issues for themselves builds confidence in themselves and allows you to enjoy your time with your dog. Rather than constantly scanning to keep them out of a tight spot! Obviously I’m still there if they get in too deep to get themselves out of a concerning moment. But there are fewer times they need my help as we build their skills and confidence.
