❗️ It’s a hot new topic in Equine Medicine but what do you really know about it❓

📌 Red Light Laser therapy penetrates deep into the horses skin, muscles, and cells to promote so many natural and HEALTHY healing cycles!!!!

📌 This light promotes the cells movement which increases temperature and blood flow to that area. In return, the body systems focus on healing and helping that area in recovery.

📌 Muscles benefit from this slight temperature change and relax. This also helps with flushing inflammation in the area.

This is the just the very basic breakdown of an amazing equine health breakthrough without the use of medications and creating a lasting improvement.

Super proud of my squad thus far this weekend. Each of us had specific goals, inside and outside of the show pen. Each of us made major improvements to our horses and ourselves.

Zach Ross, beating his own PR 2xs in a row and placing in each Green 1 class.

Kennedy Kiem more relaxed than ever, ready to push the gas and start scoring points.

Lilah Mcitrick facing adversity early and firing back to win the youth. Picked up enough points for her Green Reiner Buckle

Miranda Bogle showing absolute composure, confidence and organizational skills: placed in the top of each class, first reining show ever.

Brady Finneran showing off his winter project and first entry as an NRHA professional. Just a couple points out of the money, but enough to show the rest of the us why he will find his way into the NRHA futurity in due time.

Equestrians and non……

🩷 Good Hearts make for Good Environments

Can we normalize supporting and sharing knowledge in a compassionate way? Yes! Can we normalize helping one another the way farmers have each others backs? Why not? Can we take a step back and see there are so many breeders and not enough trainers and owners? It isnt a bad thing to create bloodlines but make sure they have a future and so do others. Can we normalize supporting the cheap horses? Some TLC goes a longggg wayy

Not everyone wants to spend $1,000s of dollars ( Me being one ) but we want to give a good heart a good home. It doesn’t have to be the prettiest mover but the horse that we connect with. Not the horse with the million dollar bloodlines but the horse that gives you their all, is there at the end of a long day, makes mistakes just like we as people do, and the horse that makes you learn.

The horse industry has a reputation. How can we as an industry work at changing this? Help others when you can, offer up NICE advice when appropriate, and be honest and fair.

Top 5 things we can do to support one another….
🐴 Positive Reinforcement
🐴Share our experiences
🐴 Explain why we think the way we do
🐴 Develop a drive to help and support one another
🐴 Lastly, always put your horse first

Can the industry work like this? If so, what can the amount of equestrians in the world for one another. 🩷

We have been lasering on this nasty blunt wound for a week or two and it is working on healing up!

📌 Laser Therapy works on increasing blood flow to an area and regenerating cells so that area can heal and react faster and stronger then normal!

This stubborn old man is reluctant for help at 25 years old; I can say it because he is my personal horse! 😉

I stumbled across this article from a friend and thought how true and I wished to share it with everyone.

The article comes from Rudy's Horsemanship.

⭐️ It’s funny the things that people think cause lameness, versus the things that actually do cause lameness. Cavalry Horses did some crazy stuff, and don’t think for one second that they were treated like they were disposable. These horses had to traverse hundreds of miles and be in good flesh and ready to fight when they got to where they were going.
⭐️Today we wrap horses in bubble wrap and put them out in a sand paddock for 90 minutes a day, and then put them in a deeply vetted stall, and ride them in perfectly manicured Arenas, and they pull a suspensory.

Things that don’t cause lameness ✅
- Diagonal advanced placement does not cause lameness or there would never be a Grand Prix horse in the Olympics ever. They all display DAP.
- being slightly behind the vertical occasionally does not cause lameness.
- hard ground does not cause lameness. Not unless your horse is completely unfit and then suddenly ride on hard ground for a long period of time. If you condition your horse in a smart way for hard ground, it actually makes them very very strong, and very very sound. Talk to any long distance runner and they will tell you that you have to condition for whatever ground you’re going to run on, whether it is hard ground, or uneven rocky ground. All are doable, but you have to do sport specific conditioning.
- jumping a certain number of fences does not make your horse lame. That whole idea that your Horse only has so many jumps in them is ridiculous. Again, you need to condition. You can’t jump 2 foot at home and then suddenly show at 4 foot and think your horses legs are going to be conditioned to land off of a 4 foot jump.

What does make horses lame 🛑
- being sedentary, aka, stalled, for half their life. Even 8 hour daily turn out leaves a lot of time being sedentary. I stall some horses too- it’s hard not to. But we KNOW it’s not ideal.
- terrible breeding. Upright front legs in pleasure horses, hyper mobility on dressage horses…. You get the idea.
- super deep footing. Yes, you can condition for it, but it’s WAY harder to condition for really deep sand than hard ground.
- crooked riding. Of all the riding flaws, I don’t know any that can make a horse lame quicker than being crooked. And all of us are naturally crooked, so if you’re not working on being even, than you’re most likely not even.
- Lasix. This is the racing industry. If you regularly give young growing horses a drug that is well known for flushing all the mineral content out of the body, don’t be so surprised when the bones break. Track spend millions of dollars in putting in new footing and it still does not prevent breakdowns. Completely banish the use of Lasix, and require that Horses get turn out time. We KNOW this is the answer but no one wants to talk about it.

There are obviously lots more things that could be put on both lists but this is a Facebook post, not a book!!

Haynet height and its effect on horse posture.
(Lots to learn and think about in this short explaination! ✍🏼)

Research carried out by an Italian team (Raspa et al) published in March 2021 (See reference and photos at the bottom) set out to study the effects of haynets at two different heights on the angles of the back, neck and jaw of horses. 🤔

Six healthy warmblood horses around 14 years were critically observed eating from three different feeding positions:

1.) On the ground (the control position)

2.) With their neck held about 15 degrees below withers height (the low hay net position at about knee level)

3.) With their neck held about 15 degrees above withers height (the high hay net position).

📌 The researchers looked specifically at the shape variations of the horses back and neck as they ate at each level using a geometric morphometrics technique.

📌 They found that the low haynet position resulted in back positions that were almost the same as the natural position when horses ate off the ground, with elongated longissimus dorsi muscles (which run along each side of the horse’s back and under where the saddle sits). At the higher haynet position, the horses’ back positions changed significantly, shortening the muscles.

✅ The angle made between the horse’s jawline and neckline when eating was found to be equally important. As the horse’s neck raised, the angle closed more, leading to acute and highly unnatural eating angles at the highest level.

The researchers conclude that it’s important to be aware of the unnatural body positions created by using haynets but also pointed out the implications of height positioning from a horse safety perspective. The research team has not yet studied how unnatural feeding positions affect horse health but suspect a natural feeding position is better both for the musculoskeletal system and the digestive system.

Seven has been an on going challenge of mine since November. He is a very sweet boy but he has been in a lot of pain. I’ve been doing periodic massage, stretches, Magntx therapy, and small adjustments.

♦️After working on him today he was loping willingly! He typical only makes it about 3 strides and he starts to buck, pin his ears, and refuse to lope.

♦️ He has a decreased Range of Motion in his hips due to being cow hocked in his back legs along with heavy tension in his back from his front end trying to pick up the slack. In addition, he struggles with social behaviors so he can’t go out with other horses to build up muscle and stretch more. He also is very figity to work on. (I will post more pictures of him later)

♦️ So when working on him it has to be timed on his mood, pain, and amount of time out he has had recently.

In honor of International Womens Day…. 💪🏼

I think it’s only appropriate to thank the two strong women who encouraged me continue my equine education and grow my skill sets and knowledge. 💕🐎

Annie Brown is an Equine Massage Therapist and founded/owns Legendary Equine Massage and her daughter is Addie Brown. These two strong, young women have a special place in my heart. I started working with them and their horses in 2019 and that only grew my passion with helping horses and people. After many career changes these two encouraged me to expand my career options into the Industry. 💕
