To Ohio and Winter Horse Owners,
As we go into next week with extreme lows, just a few reminders for your best friends!
🪣 Heated water is one of the number one things to help a horse stay healthy and hydrated!
🔥 Horses body temperatures will naturally stay warmer with unlimited access to hay. This is due to how they digest their hay and it helps with not only core body temp but the WHOLE body!!! Even easy keepers may require a little extra hay during these spells.
🐎 Blankets aren’t needed for every horse but they certainly help! Seniors, hard keepers, shaved, and very active horses may require blankets to help maintain weight and/or warmth. ❗️When you blanket ensure your straps are attached safely and tight enough to prevent tangling or injury!
💉 Lastly, ensure you have a great relationship with your vet as weather changes it can bring about hoof bruises (if their outside), colic from weather changes, weight loss, down horses, and much more.
