We are an organization of dedicated volunteers, we assume the responsibility to prevent cruelty and neglect to the animals of Crawford County and to curb the over population of cats and dogs through education and action. Society serving Crawford County has been serving the pets and community since 1971. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 12 pm to 5 pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. To drop off or surrender a pet to us PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. Call us, they might be at the shelter! or

💥 Pets of The Week!!💥

❤️ Grover
❤️ 7 years old

Grover is a 7-year-old male German Shepherd/Labrador mix. He was brought to us in an emaciated condition, weighing only 38 pounds. He is almost 60 pounds now and ready to move out of here and into his forever home. Even though is history is one of long term neglect, this guy is super sweet, friendly, and loving. His favorite pastime is playing ball, and he can be very talkative when he wants your attention. Grover doesn’t care for cats, but he does like other dogs. If you have a soft spot in your heart, and can heal his, this is the guy for you.

Paisley is a 3-month-old female Tortoiseshell kitten. She was brought into us as a stray and she was never reclaimed. This precious little girl is very affectionate and sweet. Paisley is playful but she also loves being petted. She just an adorable little kitten.

This poor guy came to us July 2nd. We had hoped an owner would come forward but no one ever did. We did however speak with a "friend of the family" who told us the family got this puppy last June. The puppy had patchy hair and they were told he had an allergy to flea treatment. However, a trip to our veterinarian showed one of the worst cases of mange the veterinarian and our team has ever seen. He had infection in his skin, yeast and bacteria in both ears, conjunctivitis in both eyes, and internal parasites.

After 14 days of proper diet, antibiotics, eye and ear treatments twice a day, medicated baths, and aggressive mange treatment look at the difference!! This smooshy face is so much better!!! He is a funny loving little guy and he will make a full recovery from the incredible neglect he received at the hand of his previous owners.

We've got you buddy!! You're gonna be just fine!

💙 Wonderful Wednesday Pet Update!!💙

Outlaw, now Maeve was picked up from us by a Lab rescue last year and they sent us an update! We dont usually get updates from rescues we utilize so we loved this! She was adopted from the rescue in April of 2023 and has been doing great! She loves her new family and has a new lease on life! In the pic below you can see she warmed up to her sibling after a little bit of time❤️ What a sweet and pretty girl she is! We are so happy she found her forever home and we are thankful for the rescues who work hard with us to find these sweet pets the homes they deserve!!

💙 Wonderful Wednesday Pet Update!!💙

Cash was adopted from us in July of 2022. His mom let us know he is doing amazing! He loves all people and kids and does very well with them. Everyone is always complementing how much of a sweet and good boy he is. He LOVES getting all the pets he can and likes to sit on feet while getting them. He also likes to chase the birds that are around his fenced in back yard. When he was adopted he was 85 pounds, now he is a big 130 pounds!! He is a gentle giant that loves to play and cuddle with his little puppy brother.❤️ We are so happy he found the perfect home and is doing so well!

This guy has come such a long way!! From 38 lbs to 57 lbs in 5 weeks!! He suffered from long term neglect before we got him. Grover came to us in time to heal his skin, eyes, ears, and now we need a special human to heal his heart. If you think you're up to the challenge of being his special angel, please call us and come visit!! Grover doesn't need to spend more time here....he needs his forever home.

Buddy is a 10-month-old male Labrador/Shepherd mix. He was brought into us when his owner moved and was not allowed take him. We cannot figure out why this young guy is still here! Buddy is super sweet, friendly, loving, and playful. He still has his puppy energy, and he loves to be right by you all the time. Buddy is good with other dogs, cats, and all people.

Jade is a 4-month-old female domestic short haired kitten. She is loving, affectionate, and very friendly. She’s playful and really enjoys playing with her toys.

💚 Wonderful Wednesday Pet Update!💚

Dixxie, now Torie was adopted from us on 4/28/2022. Her family sent us an update letting us know how great she has been! She loves to play with tug of War rope toys and her squeeze toys. She has adapted to the cats but still has to be fed in her kennel as she is a little food aggressive. She is a lover of car rides, taking walks around the fairgrounds and reservoirs. She is very loved in her furrever home!

💚 Wonderful Wednesday Pet Update!💚

Lucy was adopted from us 1/26/2023. Her mom reached out to let us know how she's been doing since then. When Lucy was adopted she only weighted 54 lbs! She is now a healthy 102 lbs. She is a bit of a diva pup and sees groomer regularly to be pampered! She loves to lay on air conditioner registers getting all the cool air❄️ She has 4 furry siblings and they all get along great. She has a fenced in back yard and loves to sleep outside at night time. Everyone that meets Lucy falls in love with her. She also loves a good car ride! She is in the best home for her and we are so thankful!

Buttercup was adopted from us on 3/19/2020 (tan and white dog). Banjo, now Cooper was adopted from us on 2/11/2022. Their family wanted to let us know how great they are both doing! Buttercup likes to lay in the cats window bed and likes the crinkle of empty plastic bottles. Cooper enjoys barking and has a little prance in his walk. They both enjoy playing ball and playing with the grandkids when they are around! They have fit in perfectly and we couldn't be happier for them!❤️

This makes the hard days worth every heart break and tear shed!!! Bentley and Bandit were brought in when their owner passed away in a car accident. CCN, the Humane Society and many others have spent countless hours talking to people about these boys. Char from Whistle Stop in Galion, NEVER gave up on asking friends and family if they could take these beautiful boys. Kathy, who knew their owner and had spent time with them came to visit and play with them regularly. And today... Elaine came to take them home! This is the best day EVER!!!

2024 Dog Tags are on sale through January 31 2024 without a late penalty fee and are $18.00 STARTING FEBRUARY 1, 2024 THE PRICE DOUBLES TO $36 EACH. Every dog must have a license! That's house dogs, farm dogs, indoor dogs, outdoor dogs, big dogs little dogs, blue dogs and green dogs! ALL DOGS MUST BE LICENSED! The Humane Society IS NOT OPEN JANUARY 31 2024. You will have to go to the Crawford County Courthouse, Horizon Animal Hospital, The Crestline Advocate, Herold Printing, or online if you wait until the last minute.

Bring a resume with 2 professional references and 1 personal reference for an interview with our director anytime from 10am to 4pm tomorrow 26th!

ADOPTED It’s Monday! Since our Dog of the Week has already been adopted 🤩 we’ll be focusing on our Cat of the Week tonight. Gizmo 🐈‍⬛ If you’ve missed our previous posts about Gizmo, he’s one of the longest feline residents that we currently have. He came to us as a stray on September 6, 2022. When he came to us, he was approximately 3-4 months old. He’s unfortunately growing up in our shelter and it breaks our hearts. He’s approximately 10 months old, doesn’t seem to mind other cats, loves being pet and enjoys playing with toys (as seen in the video)! We have nothing but positive things to say about Giz.
