Good luck Gage! Gage hasn’t gotten a lot of attention at the shelter, so this week, he is Heart of the Rockies Radio News Pet of the Week!If you are looking for a cuddly couch potato, look no further than Gage! Gage is a 3 year-old retriever, labrador mix. He has lived with kids and other dogs and has done well! Gage has been in a foster home and has a very calm and friendly demeanor. In 2023, Ark-Valley Humane Society adopted 388 shelter animals into loving homes. With only 11 staff members, we rely on YOU to help us complete our mission of ensuring the welfare of companion animals through compassion and care.

Today is International Homeless Animals' Day. Pictured here is Grasshopper (also celebrating National Black Cat Appreciation Day!) She is one of the 175 animal patients that received an in-house surgery this year.
Grasshopper arrived at AVHS as a stray with an abnormal, non-functional eye. After her medical examination, our veterinarian determined the best course of action was to remove the damaged eye. We rely on donations to provide necessary surgeries to animals like Grasshopper and to allow our animals ample time to heal and find loving homes!

Elvis is the Heart of the Rockies Radio News Pet of the Week! His adoption fees are 50% off until next Thursday.
Elvis is a 1 year-old male Coonhound. He has been on hikes with volunteers and loves to toss his toys around and play independently. "Quinn is a 3 year old spayed female Border Collie/ Mini American Shepherd. She is microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and weighs in at around 35 pounds. Quinn is white with black markings. We have had her since March 2024. She is an energetic and affectionate girl who is very trainable. She would do well in an active home, but needs to be the only dog. We've completed 175 in-house surgeries at AVHS this year so far 😮. This includes: spay/neuter surgeries, teeth extractions, mass removals, enucleations, hernia repairs, emergency surgeries, and more.
A huge thank you to veterinarian Dr. Annie Cordova-Schultz from Central Colorado Veterinary Service who provided medical treatment to help these homeless animals become adoptable. Thank you also to our Medical & Transfer Coordinator, Abbie Fritz, and all the Staff & Volunteers who support these surgeries.

About Dusty: Dusty's foster home says he is an outdoor adventure dog that loves his humans! He enjoys a nice hike with any kind of water. He even swims and dunks his head underwater! He has been great with cats because he thinks cats are the boss. He can be shy in highly-populated areas and will need someone patient with him as he experiences new things.
