We LOVE the new MYOS formula. We have been using it for a few months now. It includes eggshell membrane, green lipped mussel and of course fortetropin! It saves us from giving more supplements with having these three in one.

🐾ARTHRITIS🐾

This term is sometimes used very loosely in veterinary medicine without an actual diagnosis. Most dogs over the age of 2 years old do have some form of arthritis but not all are bothered by it in the same way.

If your veterinarian has diagnosed your pet with arthritis and they are showing signs of discomfort, don’t be afraid to ask questions! If you don’t feel as if your questions are being answered or validated, then don’t hesitate to get a second opinion. Having a large support group for you and your pet can help to make a world of difference in their prognosis and quality of life.

I have had a lot of new followers and new clients lately! I would just like to introduce myself to the new crowd!

My name is Leah and I am the founder and owner of Canine Fitness Unleashed. I was born and raised in CNY but now I am here and living in WNY!

My full time job is doing canine rehab at a local vet hospital in Buffalo, NY.

When I am not working at the vet clinic, I am teaching fitness classes, fitness seminars, doing private massage and fitness house calls, massaging at local sporting events, and much more!

I am a licensed veterinary technician (LVT), certified canine massage therapist (CCMT), certified canine rehabilitation practitioner (CCRP), certified canine strength and conditioning coach (CSCC) and certified canine myofascial practitioner (CSMP).

Between my fiancé and I we have 7 dogs. Most of those dogs are over the age of ten and enjoying their golden years! Our two youngest dogs are a GSD and a border collie who we both compete in with agility and fast cat. We love to do nosework with them as well! Hiking and traveling with our dogs is something we absolutely love to do.

I am beyond proud of this class! They have all been working so hard and pushing themselves past their limits to keep learning. This is our “Where are my back feet!?” class. This class isn’t about “form” and “perfect” per se but to build the dog’s confidence. Make them willing to try different exercises and be more confident in their sports and every day life. These skills will also help with doing harder exercises if they plan to in the future to make them even stronger and prevent injury.

Happy National Black Dog Day!!! 🖤🐾

What better way to celebrate than to welcome two new pups to our CFU private fitness lessons! Both Maggie and Ella have taken fitness classes a few times but mom really wants to do some private lessons with them. We will be working on some specific areas for each pup. Can’t wait for you all to see their transformations. 🤩

I got to start a new rear end awareness class this week at ! 🤩 Very excited to see where these teams go.

I tend to get a lot of sideways looks when I tell students that I ALWAYS start by teaching dogs their front feet first in my rear end awareness class. Seems silly to a lot of people, but if your dog doesn’t 100% know where their front feet are and don’t have a que for it, you can’t expect the rear feet to come super smoothly! It all builds on itself. See you next week! 🤩

Let’s make SMART goals!

Everyone has an idea of where they want to be with their dog, whether it’s during rehab, fitness or training in general. Do you sit down and really think what that process is going to be, or do you only focus on the end goal? Sometimes breaking things down can help you as a team to be more successful. Writing down or thinking of your goals can be so beneficial.

Thinking of SMART goals can help keep you grounded during a stressful or detailed situation with your dog.

What does SMART stand for?:

Specific - What is your clearly defined goal. (Examples: Be successful at a trial? Learn a new trick? Improve jumping? Improve endurance? Return to sport post surgery?)

Measurable - Find a way to measure your progress. (Examples: Take videos, photos, goniometry readings, girth measurements.)

Achievable - Is this goal achievable? Be realistic. Is this something that is good for you and/or your dog? (Example: Has your surgeon or veterinary team said your dog is okay to return to sport in the future? Any other health concerns? Does your dog have the drive?)

Relevant - Are you working on things with your dog that are relevant to your goals? (Examples: Over training and overwhelming your dog by learning too many new things at once. Jumping to different sports. Not working on exercises that will help improve your dog post surgery.)

Time Based - Let’s talk time. Do you have a goal by a certain age or date for your dog? Is this timeline realistic? (Example: Your dog just had surgery but there is a trial you really want to compete in. Is the time frame okay? Did you just start learning a sport with your dog and focusing on a trial date? Is this too soon?)

The SMART goal idea can be placed into any situation you are working through with your dog. Take the time to think and plan so that your team can be as successful as possible. 🐾💪🏻
