Of course, we always recommend checking with your veterinarian FURSt to determine what exactly is going on & whether it's an internal issue or something superficial so your fur baby can receive holistic care inside & out, if needed.
A groomer can not & should not ever diagnose your fur baby, even if our educated guesses are correct.
We get these phone call & social media messages all the time, inquiring if we can help.
The answer is always, "I'm sure we can, but since we aren't doctors, we preFUR to FURSt get a diagnosis from your vet.
"The other imPAWtant thing to keep in mind is that these aren't usually one-time treatments that will fix the PURRoblem; just like putting anti-fungal cream on Athletes Foot once a month or so won't get rid of it, neither will a one-time treatment here & there."

🙈 Another video with Lucky because eye goop & old dog bumps can be a real uncomFURtable issue for fur babies if not cared to PURRoPURRly.
🙅🏼♀️ The temptation is there to pick at them, but just as our doctors & nurses tell us hoomans not to pick, it's even more imPAWtant that we remove discharge from fur babies gently!

💅 Lucky is a senior boy who has never loved getting his nails done.
🤨 His antics to avoid having them done include:
🟠 Aversion body language (moving away from the clippers/groomer - Flight ResPAWnse)
🔴 Jump nipping in the groomer's face (Fight ResPAWnse)
🔴 Attempting to bite at the clippers (Fight ResPAWnse)
🟠 Biting at the groomer loop (Flight ResPAWnse to FURee himself)
🚫 He is not treat resPAWnsive.
🤗 So over the PAWSt year & a half, I've been working with him with PAWSitive praise & teeny little breaks to reset him between each nail to make itnless intense for him.
😁 He has some really good days like in this video.
😟 But sometimes he's extra cranky, whether it be from CCD (Canine Cognitive Disorder where he may FURget all of his PURRogress & get confused & scared), or whether something went on in his day or week prior.
🙂 No matter what, the imPAWtant thing on my end, as his groomer, is to remain consistent: methodical, loving, & firm.
🥰 I just love seeing how happy & PURRoud he gets when he completes each task!

This is what a Fear Free nail trim looks like.
When Bo FURSt came to me, I was unable to trim any of his nails.
His mom said he had past traumas with his paws & understood.
Even just seeing the clippers would send him into a tizzy of grumbles, anxious tap dancing, aversion body language, & warning nips.
So I gave his mom homework to keep a set of nail clippers near his favorite things to help desensitized him between grooming visits & to use high reward treats whenever touching his paws.
Over time, Bo has gotten much better I am able to trim all of his nails.
We still aren't brave enough for a full nail buff, but we're on our way!
When he is stressed, Bo doesn't have as much interest in treats but he LOVES PAWSitive praise & pets.
🤣 Guess you could say his love language is Words of ARFFirmation.
It's imPAWtant that he gets little breaks between each nail so that the stress he experiences doesn't have as good of a chance to compound like what happens when dogs are restrained & forced through the PURRocess.
When they experience restraint & force, their brains go into survival mode & panic sets in, making them struggle with the groomer more & making both PAWrties more prone to accident & injury.
The key is to go slower, at THEIR pace, & reinforcement the experience in a PAWSitive, happy way that gives them a new association with it.
🥹 Even though the video is sped up, you can see him acrively start to come towards me to nuzzle his head into me because he's starting to understand that once his nail gets clipped, he gets love.
I also make it a point that he sees the nail clippers each time beFUR I clip them because the snap of the trim is often startling, which reinFURces the triggered fear.
It's also really cute how he acknowledges it to show he understands this is about to happen, but you can tell he's actually preparing, bracing for it, just like a little kid with getting a vaccine.
This is called creating new neurological pathways for him,

😰 When I FURSt started grooming her, she was anxious.
👯🏼♀️ She tap danced pretty much the entire time.
💤 Now, she's so relaxed that she starts falling asleep during her raking (de-shedding)!
🦆 She's always loved her rubber duckie time, which brings me joy to play "Pick Up the Duck" with her while she PURRocesses.
