Jacques wasn't aggressive at all; he was simply terrified of what can already be a scary or stressful experience, compounded by his aging body & his coat condition from not getting the care he needed.

👩🏻🎓 Congratulations, Lucy Lu & family!!! 🥳
She just became the fastest Grooming Rehab graduate we've ever had at Club Pawsh.
In only 5 sessions, she gained the confidence & reqired her association with getting her nails done to where I feel she is ready to get full grooms with no more stress!
When she came to me over a month ago, we were able to complete her full groom, but nails were a panic button for her & i wasn't able to get them filed or as short as we would like.
Even trimming her paw hair was a delicate & stressful PURRocess for her.
It added lots of extra time to her apPAWntment.
So I discussed Grooming Rehab as an option for her so her association with me doesn't become a fear-based one.
Grooming Rehab consists of several mini (20 minute) sessions, once PURR week, consecutively, where we solely work on rebuilding new neurological PAWthways for them very things yiurbfur baby has an aversion to.
SLOWLY, we rebuild trust & progress towards the end goal, always keeping stressors low & adding in lots of love & rewards.
This included homework that her mom was given to do (& not do) to help her along.
I'm so PURRoud of Lucy Lu & her family for helping her overcome her fears of nail trims!
It really does take a team efFURt.

Paco was unable to complete what was supPAWSed to be a full groom this time around.
He sees me every 6 weeks, alternating between BOOS (Brush Out Only Service) & Cat's Pajamas (full groom) to maintain his fluffy coat.
But this time, with the seasonal weather change, his coat began thickening up for the colder weather, so what normally takes about an hour to comb out took 2 this time.
He had reached his stress threshold about that time, so I didn't feel it was safe to continue with his bath.
Cats can go into an emergency-induced stress situation in the blink of an eye, so it's extremely imPAWtant to be vigilant & respectful of what they communicate & when.
His PAWrents already knew that when they began working with me (in their intro notes beFUR his FURSt ever apPAWntment, they wrote "if he gets even a little stressed, please stop for the day"). YES! That is the proper way to work with any cat! 👏🏼
So it is extremely rewarding to watch Paco actually request & give PURRmission tonresume grooming.
Notice he isn't trying to get back into his carrier.
He is aware that he has some degree of autonomy in this environment &, given the time, he CHOOSES to come to me.
Yes, that takes more time & PAWtience, but it is completely worth it, don't you think

Abbey is a very sweet 13 year old Cocker Spaniel who started being cared for by me about a year & a half ago.
This video is from her most recent visit but it's also representative of how she was initially.
She has improved immensely over the course of her time with me (check her PAWSt videos).
Lately, though, she's been showing increased signs of aging, including confusion.
This can set a dog back into trigger mode all over again, despite however much PURRogress has been made.
So it's all about working with her to make her time more comFURtable.
I have switched things up, such as pre-shaving her to make drying time faster & also get a haircut in, just in case she decides she won't tolerate the blow dryer & has to be returned to her mom wet.
Your fur baby's comFURt is always my top priority, but in Abbey's case, now, more than ever, cuteness & an even, nice haircut is my lowest priority.
Our fur babies deserve to be understood & cared for in a way they understand, not forced through for a cute look, only to be traumatized for years after
😔 Sadly, many dogs experience this.
This is why, suddenly, they may be reFURred out to a new groomer because the current one doesn't feel comFURtable grooming them anymore...especially when these symptoms are exacerbated by age & the additional health risks trauma may induce.
That's not fair to them.
They deserve a lifetime of stress-less grooming, not just when someone else no longer wants to take accountability for the harm they have caused or PURR-Pet-uated.
That's why continued education & efFURts to improve salon PURRactices are imPAWrative in the, currently, unregulated world of grooming.
The concept of Fear Free & CooPURRative Care is relatively new to grooming, despite it being used for thousands of years with exotic animals in many other fields.
