If you take your doggos swimming, be sure the water is not full of harmful algae.

CLIMATE WEEK: Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper staff and volunteers have reported and identified several harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Western New York waterways this summer. HABs continue to appear into October, so be on the lookout. If you see discolored water, stay out and report it! HABs can produce toxins that can cause serious health issues in humans and pets. You can report a bloom to Wendy Paterson at 716-852-7483 x26 or directly to the NYSDEC: https://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/77118.html Be sure to take photos of your observation.

Algae thrives in warm, slow-moving water. As climate change continues to impact Western New York waters, we expect the range and frequency of HABs to increase.

Hellow furriends! One of our park users, ZsaZsa Roma Scrivano-Vajda, lost a green stone carved in the shape of a turtle somewhere between the small dog side and the parking lot.

Hi Everypawdy!

For some time now, the Barkyard’s board of directors has been officially disbanded since LaSalle Park was named to be rehabbed and rechristened the Ralph C Wilson Centennial Park. The entire park itself will be undergoing major renovations and changes, with the Barkyard being moved to a different area in the next few years. The Barkyard’s access, cleaning, repairs and upkeep have been completely turned over to the City of Buffalo. While we no longer handle the maintenance of the Barkyard, you can contact the City of Buffalo by calling 311 to request repairs or register complaints regarding its use. The City’s Department of Public Works handles the park and its maintenance. While we have been keeping up with the Barkyard’s page, we are hoping someone from the City will also take that over in time. As always, if you have a question or problem with use of the Barkyard, please call 311 for maintenance or repair issues, and the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter (CBAS) to request assistance from a dog control officer when someone is not following the rules. If it is a weekend or evening, call the Buffalo Police District B for assistance. Thank you for your patronage and use of the Barkyard since 2007! We are so proud of the park and its users for bringing your furry pals here to play and exercise, and can’t wait to see what the park will look like when it’s fully renovated!
