Taylor Isberner, DVM

What is your background? "I'm originally from MN and am so excited to be back! I graduated from CSU in 2021 through their combination program with the University of Alaska Fairbanks."

What are your favorite hobbies outside of work? "Outside of work you can find me training my dogs for flyball or agility, training for rugby season, or riding my horses."

What is one fun fact? "I have played rugby in 9 different states."

What is your favorite dessert? "Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting"

Getting to know your 2025 Buffalo Equine Staff! Next, we have one of our lovely assistants!

Torii Schwieters

What is your background? "I graduated from the College of Saint Benedict in May 2024 with my bachelors studying biology and am currently going through the application process for Veterinary school at the University of Minnesota! Hopefully I will be starting vet school this coming fall!"

What are your favorite hobbies outside of work? "I love to hang out at the barn with my thoroughbred, Mountain! We do the hunters and hopefully will be entering the show ring more this summer! If I’m not at the barn, I’m probably somewhere with my family and friends!"

What is one fun fact? "I studied abroad in Tanzania, Africa where I did research on Lions, Hippos, and Elephants! We studied their behaviors and interactions. I was there for almost 3 weeks and it was genuinely so cool, I would totally go back."

What is your favorite dessert? "Pretty much anything chocolate!"

Happy New Year! Let’s start the new year with getting to know your 2025 Buffalo Equine Staff! We asked them the following questions:

Abbigail (Abbi) Novotny, DVM, MPH

What is your background? “I am a native Minnesotan that joined the Buffalo Equine team July of 2024. I graduated from Iowa State University with my Doctorate in Veterinary medicine and from the University of Iowa with my Masters in Public Health.”

What are your favorite hobbies outside of work? “I LOVE to play with my horse, play hockey, go fishing, hunting, skiing, or spending time with my husband, family and friends!”

What is one fun fact? “I just registered for skiing at skijoring at Canterbury this year!”

What is your favorite dessert? “Tiramisu by far!!!!!”

Thank you all for an exciting 2024! This year brought a lot of change to the practice, and you all have graciously stood with us as we curtailed our growing pains, and added some wonderful new staff and doctors to the mix to accommodate clientele needs. We value your business, take great pride in your equine successes, and stand by you in the losses.

We can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for all of you!

Please welcome Dr. Taylor Isberner to Buffalo Equine!
Dr. Taylor is originally from Minnesota, but graduated from Colorado State University in 2021. After graduation she completed her internship at Anoka Equine. After her internship she moved to Iowa and practiced in the Des Moines area with a primary focus in reproduction, stallion work, and foaling mares. Her primary interests in veterinary medicine include: neonates, internal medicine and reproduction.
When she isn't practicing vet med you can catch her riding her horses, Jack and Oz, or practicing agility or flyball with her pups, Dooley and Rizzo. She is so excited to be back in MN and serving the equine community here.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! To all our clients and friends.

We will be closed Thursday November 28th through the weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will have a doctor available at 763-682-2225 for emergencies while the office is closed.

Attention Mare Owners! If you have goals of breeding early this next season; Thanksgiving week is when you will want to start getting your mares under lights. When artificial lighting is implemented, ovulation usually occurs two and a half months later. During this time a 100-200 W incandescent or a fluorescent light in their stall is appropriate to provide 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness. Equilume light masks are also excellent devices we can use for our pasture housed mares. Stay tuned! We have an exciting surprise regarding next years breeding season as well!

Coming up for the month of December we are offering in clinic gastroscopes at a discounted price! On Thursdays only, you can get a gastroscope (office call, sedation, and procedure included) for only $278, for a total savings of $100! Happy National Veterinary Technician Week! Gratitude comes every day of the year, but this week we made sure to thank our techs and assistants for all they do! Goodbyes are always hard!!
Dr. Kish signed on with Buffalo Equine three years ago while his wife completed specialty training for her residency. They are now moving to his wife’s home state of North Carolina to start the next chapter for their family. His last day with Buffalo Equine is July 18th. We wish Dr. Kish, and his family, many blessings in their future endeavors.

We are also excited to introduce everyone to Dr. Ethan Strain. He will be joining the Buffalo Equine team in July!

Dr. Ethan Strain was born and raised in Virden, Manitoba, Canada on a ranch where he and his family raise and exhibit Percheron horses. As a 5th generation Percheron breeder and exhibitor, Dr. Ethan has been fortunate to show with his family, as Silver Oak Percherons, across Western Canada and the Midwest USA with the 2018, 2022 World Percheron Congress’ and Minnesota State Fair in 2018, 2022, and 2023 as recent highlights. He attended St. Matthew’s University for veterinary school and performed his clinical year at Washington State University. Ethan has spent the last 2 years working in North Carolina at Tryon Equine Mobile as an intern for the first 5 months and an associate after that. His professional interests include lameness, sports medicine, wellness/preventative medicine, and internal medicine. In his spare time, he can be found at draft horse events, hiking, spending time with friends and family, or working with his own horses.
