Quick PSA: Take the trip, eat the cake, do all the things and LOVE your people. *** This is our mother. She has severe dementia. Prior to this life she was an Art Teacher in Buffalo for 30 years. Mrs. Sarach from Arts Academy! She loved traveling all over the country - mainly to National Parks and any place near the ocean. Our parents lived their last years for the grandchildren-bringing them on trips, teaching them to laugh, supporting their hobbies and sports. Giving them anything they could. Showing love and pride in them always. Dementia took those memories, those moments that make life special. Kim and I try to hold strong. Somedays it is really hard to see her like this. None of us know what life holds. I am certain this is not what she expected. It’s the cruelest illness. Moving slowly and taking who you are from you. It’s scary at first because you know something is happening and then you’re no longer you. And then you don’t know anyone anymore. Even your babies. I think the only thing that’s good about this: Is that it’s a lesson to all of us-to enjoy the moments in between the big moments. The coffee break. The dad joke. The sunshine. Dinner with friends. The walks with the dog. It is my reminder to be grateful for the beautiful blessings in my life. ❤️
