“It’s been a rough journey for Luca with her blepharitis. Over the months, I’ve visited every board-certified eye specialist in NYC, working tirelessly to treat her autoimmune blepharitis. We tried antibiotics, steroids, a biopsy, culture swabs, and every test they suggested. Despite spending thousands of dollars, I still felt hopeless and lost with her ongoing treatment.

Finding Dr. Wong for a second opinion was the silver lining in this challenging process. I finally feel relieved and confident in her treatment plan. Dr. Wong was incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate. She listened attentively to Luca’s treatment history and thoughtfully suggested the best next steps for her. She took the time to patiently explain the reasoning behind her approach, ensuring I fully understood.

I’m so grateful to have found Dr. Wong. Her staff are also incredibly kind and welcoming. I highly, highly recommend her to anyone seeking expert care.” — Jiwon N. from Eye Care for Animals, a Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner in New York, NY

“From day one, this facility gave me a great sense of caring for the creatures (and humans) that walk through the door. Attention to detail, technique, examination protocol, "patient" intake & registration—I have not seen better! I love my turtles enough to travel from Brooklyn to Manhattan because I know we will receive the care needed at The Center. The staff (Doctors, Boarding Residents, Reception staff) are ALL on point. Don't go any place else—this is the place!” — Donald A. from Center for Exotic and Avian Medicine, a Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner in New York, NY

“My dog was attacked on a Sunday, so my normal vet was closed. I wanted to get her checked out ASAP. They were open. The waiting room and exam room were spotless. The receptionist moved us to an exam room quickly, so we had a comfortable place to wait to see the tech and vet. I expected that we would need a bit of a wait since it is an emergency room and there were other cars in the parking lot. All the staff was caring, supportive of my concern about my dog, they handled that I was shaken very well. They were very clear setting expectations for wait times since, like I said, it's an emergency room and they have other pets to attend to. My dog was treated, we were sent home with clear care instructions and meds. I have been to emergency vets before and I was expecting a high bill, but it was about half of what I was expecting. Everyone was caring, friendly, and communicated very clearly.” — Allison F. from Pet Specialists of Austin, a Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner

🛑 ️🐱 Cat owners: here’s what you need to know about the recent outbreak of bird flu.️🐱

The CDC has confirmed and reported cases of bird flu in both humans and animals. Please help spread awareness as this virus may pose a serious risk to your beloved pets. By taking the proper precautions, we can do our part in lowering the risk of exposure. If your cat is experiencing symptoms such as fever, low appetite, lethargy, or other abnormal signs, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

“I have never LOVED a veterinary clinic before. My words are going to fail me as I try to tell you how awesome this team is. But I’m going to try my best.
In the last two weeks, I’ve had 3 separate issues with my two working dogs. Hometown Veterinary Hospital has provided us with top-notch care in every circumstance.
One of my girls needed an MRI ASAP and the veterinarian on her case got us up to Kansas City by Friday instead of Monday. So much effort went into that!
Then my other girl began vomiting to the point of becoming lethargic. They got me in ASAP and explored all the possibilities for what was wrong with her.
If you want a veterinary practice that goes the extra mile to make sure your dogs get the medical care they need, this is the best place to go.
Lily, Dr. Hilton, and Dr. Mease are the folks I particularly interacted with and I could hug every one of them. I love them all so much. They helped me walk through the scary medical issues I had with my girls. They kept me informed and made sure we had the care we needed.
Thank you, Hometown Vet! You are the best!” —

“This team is so amazing. We have 5 dogs and a cat of our own. And we currently have a foster puppy. All 3 doctors know that and they make every effort to be conservative with their treatment plans for our babies so as not to break the bank of our blue-collar household. They care and they are incredibly knowledgeable. Angela, the office manager, is always kind, thoughtful, professional and goes out of her way to squeeze in urgent appointments for me, if she can. And the rest of the staff, Emily L., Mandy, the other wonderful techs, and receptionists are very sweet and treat my babies as their own whenever we have a visit to the office. And we're in there about every other month because we always have anywhere from 6 to 10 animals in the house and each of them have their yearly appointment, not to mention unplanned urgent visits.

I'M GRATEFUL FOR THIS TEAM WHO HAVE HELPED TO KEEP MY BABIES HEALTHY AND HAPPY FOR OVER A DECADE !!!!! I APPRECIATE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM !” - Laura C. from The Country Vet, a Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner in Novato

All the veterinarians are incredible and care for my cat like one of their own. I have moved around the city, but always keep Juno (my cat) at FPAH because they always take the time to talk to me through what is going on, follow up regularly, and answer any questions I may have.” — Morgan G. from Family Pet Animal Hospital, a Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner in Chicago

Here’s an eye-popping fact 👀: Just ONE cup of whole milk given to your cat as a snack is like us eating 5¾ cupcakes in one sitting! 🧁 🙀

If we eat a few cupcakes in one day on occasion, it is not going to have a large impact on our overall health. However, when consumed in those quantities regularly, in addition to our regular meals, weight gain is very likely. The same is true for our pets.

⚠️While it's a tasty treat for us, chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine, chemical compounds that dogs and cats can't metabolize effectively.
This can lead to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heart rate, and in severe cases, seizures or even death.

Keep chocolate out of reach of dogs and cats, and if you suspect your pet may have ingested anything containing cocoa, seek emergency vet care immediately.

06/17/2024

Check your pet for ticks every day, especially after they spend time outdoors. Run your fingers through your pet's fur with gentle pressure to feel for any small bumps.

If you find a tick, it’s important to act quickly and safely. You can either try to remove the tick yourself or take your dog to your nearest veterinary clinic, urgent care, or emergency clinic.

If you choose to remove the tick from your dog, follow the steps below:

1. Use tweezers (or a tick remover instrument like a Tick Key) to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible, removing the whole head and body.
2. Pull the tick straight out with slow and steady pressure. (If the head of the tick is left in the skin, it can cause an infection and still transmit disease, so make sure the whole body is removed!)
3. Once the tick is removed, you can place it in a sealed container in case your vet wants to test it for diseases.
4. Clean the area of your dog’s skin with soap and water then apply a pet-safe antiseptic.
5. Contact us for advice on next steps. We may ask you to bring your pet in for testing.

⚠️With grilling season in full swing, here's a refresher on common cookout foods you should NEVER feed pets!
While most pet owners know that certain foods like chocolate, onions, garlic, and grapes pose serious health risks for dogs and cats, visiting friends, family and children may not.

It’s a smart idea to remind your guests to NOT feed your pet table foods - especially if they are expert beggars.

If you suspect your pet may have eaten something they shouldn’t have, go directly to the closest emergency vet if your veterinarian is not available. Be sure to bring the item ingested, if possible, to help them diagnose and treat your pet.

06/12/2024

⚠️Many of the diseases that parasites cause, can spread from your pet to you and your family, too. Pests like ticks and fleas can crawl or hitch a ride into your home on shoes, clothing, or even on the fur of another pet.
Itchy yet?
Let’s talk pests.

Ticks:
Not only are ticks a threat to our pets, but an estimated 476K Americans are diagnosed with Lyme disease each year.* They aren’t just a warm weather issue, either: contrary to popular belief, ticks don’t die in the winter and do not hibernate, either. If you or your pet spend time in grassy or wooded areas, get in the habit of spot-checking yourself and them for these small, spider-like creatures after every outing. If you find one, pull it off carefully and intact, then call us.

Fleas:
These teeny-tiny jumping parasites aren’t just annoying for the itchy rashes they cause in pets and people. Studies have shown that the plague is once again on the rise and that fleas are one of the culprits. Fleas can multiply and jump from host to host alarmingly fast, so if you catch your pet itching more than usual, have them checked for fleas ASAP.
