Myers Farm History … Farmer Eldon a 5th generation farmer has cared for his land & looked after the cows all of his life. Working along side his father milking cows & growing to***co. Now raising beef cattle. Vera Ann grew up in Greeneville and became a school teacher. In 1989 ,our lives changed forever. Together we built 2 greenhouses and started growing pumpkins, selling out of our front yard. In 1996, life changed again. Farmer Ethan, 6th generation farmer was born. Vera Ann left teaching and created educational field trips on the farm. The Shed was built to display & sell all the pumpkins, gourds, squash, Indian corn & other fall products. In 2000, Vera Ann wished she had a field of corn to do this thing called a “corn maze”. Well, Farmer Eldon had just a field. Myers Farm became the first corn maze in East TN and second in the state! Agritourism became a way for farms to diversify. In 2005, Vera Ann became the founding president of the TN Agritourism Association. In 2021, Farmer Ethan took a wife…Emily. Together they will carry the farm to the next generation. Thru all of the new exciting changes on the farm, we never lost the focus on agriculture. When you visit our farm, you will see true agricultural in action…feeding cows, picking & grinding corn, mowing & baling hay, planting & picking pumpkins, sowing & growing greenhouse plants, serving our visitors and everything else that farmers do… 365 days a year. We love our cows, love our crops & love our land!! Everyday is a new challenge and blessing. Farmers help feed, fuel and clothe the world. As the fall season begins, stop and look around. Slow down and visit a farm. Thank a farmer for working 365 days a year for you !! Hope to see you at Myers Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze this fall season. And Thanks for Supporting A Local Farmer …Eldon, Vera Ann, Ethan & Emily 🐄🌽🌻🍁🎃❤️

**** Day 11 of Featuring Plants ****

Sweet Banana Pepper

A favorite in the home garden, Sweet Banana Pepper produces elongated, 6-in. fruits that start yellow and turn scarlet red when fully ripe. These sweet, mild, waxy peppers are delightful in salads and for fresh eating, with no bitter after taste. They are exquisitely strong when pickled.

While the fruits can be harvested when yellow, their sweetness increases as they remain on the plant.

**** Day 10 of featuring plants ****

Snap Peas (Cascadia)

The snap pea is a cool season legume. It may be planted in spring as early as the soil can be worked.

It tolerates light frost when young. It also has a wider adaptation and tolerance of higher temperatures than some other pea cultivars.

Snap peas are also known as sugar snap peas, and are a cross between snow peas and garden peas. The whole pod is eaten and has a crunchy texture and very sweet flavor. Snap peas may be eaten raw or cooked.

Snap peas are pod fruits. An edible-podded pea is similar to a garden, or English, pea, but the pod is less fibrous, and is edible when young. Pods of the edible podded pea, including snap peas, do not have a membrane and do not open when ripe. At maturity, the pods grow to around 1.5 to 3 inches in length. Pods contain three to nine peas. The plants are climbing, and pea sticks or a trellis or other support system is required for optimal growth. Plants are commonly around 3 to 4 ft high, mainly for ease of harvest and cultivation.

**** Day 9 of featuring plants ****

Burpless Cucumber

Burpless cucumbers are cucumbers bred with no or reduced levels of cucurbitacin. This reduces bitterness and likelihood of burping.

Burpless cucumbers are generally milder in taste and easier on the human digestive system. There are different varieties of burpless cucumbers, most of which are hybrid cultivars especially developed to be as burpless as possible.

This variety produces 10-inch long slicing cucumbers that are completely burpless, with no bitterness. Excellent sliced, but also fine for pickling when picked at a slightly smaller size. High yielding. This vining cucumber will appreciate growing up on a trellis.

**** Day 8 of featuring Plants ****

Celebrity Red Tomato

The Celebrity tomato is a hybrid cultivar prized for its strong plants, disease and pest resistance, and robust production of fruit. If you've ever struggled growing garden that become vulnerable to pests or just don't produce very many tomatoes, the Celebrity is a game changer.

The Celebrity tomato produces long fruit bearing stems holding 20 or more very plump, robust tomatoes. Fruits weigh approximately 8 oz. and are 4 inches across. Plants require caging or staking, and produce fruit throughout the growing season. The celebrity tomato is a cultivar of the species Solanum lycopersicum. It is a crossbreed of the common tomato that is widely used for various culinary purposes. This tomato is of great size and is known to be resistant to most tomato diseases such as Fusarium wilt, Verticillium wilt, To***co mosaic virus and Root-knot nematode due to its hybrid nature.

Celebrity tomatoes are highly adaptive to harsh environments and can grow in a wide range of places including dry, humid and wet regions. They are resistant to cracking and splitting which usually occurs when there is an excess of water and sugar movement in the fruits, therefore causing the tomato skin to grow at a slower rate compared to the expansion of the fruit. They can survive in harsh uneven rainfall. However, they are highly susceptible to colder environments and are at a higher risk of dying in regions with short growing seasons. The plants can grow up to 5 foot tall. The plants are generally very thick and grow in clusters. The tomato fruits are mostly used in the making of various salsas, salads, juices and canned food.

They are very good for slicing and sandwich applications, they are the perfect size!

**** Day 7 of featuring plants ****

“California Wonder” Green Bell Pepper

The standard bell for many decades, this 1928 introduction is still the largest open pollinated heirloom bell pepper you can grow. A perfect stuffing pepper that is blocky, thick-walled, tender and flavorful.

It is by far the most popular pepper we sell. It is in fact the industry standard in bell peppers.
