In things I did not have on had my list. Nutria (yes the invasive ligand rodent)raiding winter gardens in Southwest Washington 😜 I was so happy when I first saw it thinking a muskrat, but it showed me it’s white whiskers, which is 100 nutria. Jon-Paul and Colin are holding things down back in Texas. And a few photos from the whirlwind of the past month and half. I am missing everybody in Texas

I am house-sitting in Washington combining family time with Dad and work. And guess who decided as I was walking out the door to leave, that today was the day to literally fly the cooop. We got. Quick call to the owners to confirm it was okay to clip wings. So I quickly grabbed up the loose ends, clipped their wings and clipped the other three chickens that were still in the coop. 10 out of 10 she would do it again and I got a very stern commentary on my audacity. But I made it to the airport on time and back in Texas to see Colin’s performance

Chip my dad’s senior Bernese, does Not approve of me sitting on his loveseat and wants to go back to being the alone child 😜😆 Chip is not one to easily forget and forgive. I have been getting a consistent side eye whenever I am not giving ear scratches. And of course I can’t forget a picture of Dad. Who along with my mother started my lifelong passion with all critters great and small. As my dad and mom always said a soon as I could walk. I was going out with dad on livestock calls and to the sale barns and watching dad do surgeries and care in his vet clinic.

One of my favorite ranch horses, checking if the phone is edible. I am hoping to get photos and do updates on Facebook and Insta this week. The first part of September brought stitches and soft tissue damage to my calf. Followed shortly by our senior dog having to have emergency surgery. I am hoping that October is a bit more low-key

📢A message from Comal County Animal Control:

Positive Rabies in Cases in Comal County

On September 6, 2024, Comal County Animal Control was notified that two feral cats tested positive for the rabies virus. The animals were located near the intersections of HWY 46 and FM 1863, and HWY 46 and US Hwy 281. This marks the fifth confirmed rabies case in Comal County this year.
Residents in the affected and neighboring areas are urged to avoid contact with skunks, foxes, and other wildlife, particularly if they exhibit unusual behavior. Pet owners must also ensure that their pets are vaccinated against rabies, as required by state law.
At the recommendation of the State Veterinarian, Comal County will temporarily suspend the Feral Cat Trap-Neuter-Release Program until further notice.
◼️Background
Rabies is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system and is typically transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. A person or mammal can contract rabies when bitten or if the animal's saliva comes into contact with their eyes, nose, mouth, or an open wound. It is important to promptly report any animal bites or potential exposures to the local rabies control authority at 830-608-2016.
◼️Recommendations
Avoid contact with wildlife and unfamiliar animals. If bitten, scratched, or otherwise exposed to an animal, immediately wash the affected area with soap and water and seek medical advice. If the animal's location is known, report it to Comal County Animal Control as soon as possible. Pet owners should also ensure that their dogs and cats are up to date on rabies vaccinations.

We have decided to take Thanksgiving this year to take a family vacation. So we will be unavailable the majority of Thanksgiving Week. We will also have very limited availability in January 2025. Our youngest has less two years before starting their journey into adulthood. And so we have a lot of memories still left to make, college visits, essays, testing, robotics and theater obligations, along with making memories as a family. I will be sending out a newsletter.over the next few weeks with more details.

We are currently discussing training somebody to the standards our clients expect and/or searching out qualified referrals for our clients to offset any of the stress in finding a sitter during these times we are unavailable. This job is very much a passion and we put our hearts/souls into every family that joins the We’ll Keep Their Tails Wagging Family. And we apologize in advance of our unavailability during this time periods and we will try to help you find support in finding another sitter during this time period. Thank you, Annie
