💙 PROMISE MADE & KEPT 💙
Bunnell Police Officers Richard Coury and Michael Fansler received a letter from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Included with the letter was a check for the Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Program, which provides a $5,000 bonus after taxes to new recruits or out-of -state law enforcement officers.
Officer Coury previously served in law enforcement in South Carolina, and Officer Fansler graduated earlier this year from the Daytona State College’s Police Academy.
Congratulations officers, and thank you Governor DeSantis for standing up for what is right, your support of law enforcement, and delivering on your promise to assist agencies with recruiting.

New Canine Respiratory Disease:

We are aware of the respiratory disease which has been noted in 14 states across the country. We wanted to update everyone as to what we know and what we do not know regarding the disease, which is to say we know very little about the actual disease. There are many potential causative agents which could be responsible for this disease and we are awaiting more information from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

As of now, there have been hundreds of reported cases along with an unknown number of fatalities. Testing is being performed at both Oregon State University’s and Colorado State University’s diagnostic laboratories. Of the reported deaths, we do not know if there are any comorbidities which may increase a patient’s risk of severe disease.

What to look for:
-Difficulty or rapid breathing, excessive coughing, wheezing, dehydration, fever, nasal or eye discharge, weight loss, loss of appetite and lethargy.
-Chronic mild-moderate tracheobronchitis − a sudden or long-term inflammation of the trachea and bronchial airways − lasting 6-8 weeks that is barely or non-responsive to antibiotics.
-Chronic pneumonia not responsive to antibiotics.
- Acute pneumonia that quickly turns severe sometimes in as little as 24-36 hours.

How to best protect your dog:
-Be mindful – if your dog is exhibiting signs of respiratory disease, do not bring your dog around other dogs.
-Boarding, grooming and dog parks can spread the disease more readily due to close contact between dogs. This is not to say to stop boarding, grooming, or taking your dog out. But please be cautious.
-If you are going to take your dog out, please make sure you dog is fully vaccinated against the following bacteria and viruses: Bordetella, distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, parvovirus (Part of a 4 in 1 vaccine), and influenza. Vaccines strengthen an immune system and response to viruses and there may be some crossover protection in case of viral variants.

Please know we will continue to monitor for updates regarding this respiratory disease and will pass along important information as we receive it. It is important to not panic if you think your dog is exhibiting these signs. Please call or email us if you have any questions.

to Darla!! 🥳😍
Darla was waiting over a year for her forever family to come find her, but never lost hope. Thank you SO very much for adopting her & giving her all the love she deserves!

They wrote: "I wanted to share some pictures of sweet Darla (I heard she was a shelter staff favorite). My daughter & son in law adopted her & are madly in love with her. She wanted the dog who’d been in the shelter the longest & luckily, Darla was a perfect fit. Here are some pictures she has sent me to give you all an update on her new life & family. She’s truly darling!"
