Butterscotch's journey is one of resilience. Once a hunting dog, her life took a hard turn when her family split up, and she was no longer wanted. After many litters and a dimmed spirit, a persistent cough revealed she had heartworms.

Heartworm treatment can cost over $1,500, leading many to abandon care and take their pet to the shelter (which is where we found Butterscotch). But thanks to you and a generous donor, Butterscotch begins her treatment today.

She’s now on the path to recovery, and we’re grateful for your support in giving dogs like Butterscotch the love and care they deserve. Together, we’re changing lives.

Your Compassion Transforms Lives

Thanks to your generous donations and heartfelt concern for orphaned pets, Cashew, Katie, and Wally now have a brighter future ahead of them.

Wally, once covered in painful burn scars and matted fur, had to be shaved down like a sheep. Now, he’s on the road to recovery and ready for a loving home.

Cashew and Katie found themselves in a living situation that posed serious risks to their safety. Their former owner, deeply concerned for their wellbeing, entrusted them to us to ensure a better life.

Because of you, these wonderful pets have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and groomed. They’re healthy, happy, and prepared to start a new chapter with a forever family.

[TN Friendsville Scholarship Pet Adoption #134]

In 2021, Orson's future looked grim. With just hours left at the shelter, his fierce demeanor—so intense the staff wouldn’t even get him out of his cage for us to meet—had sealed his fate. But thanks to YOU, we saw through his rough exterior and gave him the second chance he desperately needed.

At the Center, Orson showed his true colors. While he adored his dog buddies, he was selective with humans, slowly letting us into his world when he decided we were "safe." Over time, he met many new people and learned to navigate life on his own terms. Orson wasn’t one for great first impressions, but once you earned his trust, his love was unconditional.

Now, after 3 years with us, Orson has found his people pack! This incredible couple decided to take a chance on him, giving him the gift of a home just in time for the holidays.

We couldn’t be more thrilled for Orson. And of course, we’ll always be here for him if he needs us again.

[TN Friendsville Scholarship Pet Adoption #133]

Bree (rights) came into the program as a rambunctious mouthy (sometimes overly) confident puppy. Volunteers taught her the basics - and especially how to calm and receive love. This home is absolutely perfect for Bree! She gets structured exercise; an organized environment; and, a big sis to show her the way! Thank you for allowing Bree to come into your life and giving her just want she needs.

[TN Friendsville Scholarship Pet Adoption #132]

Wilson was surrendered to us from his owners in 2021 - when he was around 1 year old. After 2 years with us and no compatible adopters (either not showing up to meet him or changing their minds about adopting him), Wilson went to live with The Animal Protectorates' founder. While Wilson was fine with their other dogs, he really craved human one-on-one attention to work through some of his quirks. After a year of figuring out what he needed...the exact right home came along. He is the center of their world and getting all of his special needs met. Through our Purple Collar Promise, we are forever there for dogs coming into our program - so even if Wilson should need to come back into our care at some point during his life...we will be there for him.

All animals coming into the care of The Animal Protectorates get a purple collar promise to always be their back up plan if at any time during their life they are at risk of becoming homeless again. When Murphy was returned to the safety of The Animal Protectorates because his family increased in size and they determined he wasn't a fit for the little ones...we found him new ones. Purple Collar Promise kept!
Radar was adopted from The Animal Protectorates in 2019 when he was 6 years old. Recently his family moved out of the country and for reasons didn't take him. They contacted TAPS and told us what was going on - they even helped find a new home for him. Everyone wanted the best for Radar. According to plan, the family surrendered Radar back to TAPS and then a TAPS volunteer coordinated his adoption into the new home to make sure it was a good fit for Radar. While having a pet come back into the nonprofit after adoption is hard on them, Radar's situation was ideal because we were in the loop from the beginning and were able to introduce TAPS to Radar's new family and let them know that they have us as Radar's Purple Collar Promise (to always be his back-up plan). Thank you for your donations so that dogs like Radar are protected...for life.

[Friendsville Scholarship Pet Adoption #131]

Stanley lived his life outside when his owner realized that a Shepadoodle is not a German Shepard that doesn't shed, but an entirely quirky, active, smart, needy and inquisitive minded dog that requires regular grooming,

Stanley was personally brought to the Center and into the Scholarship Pet program by a shelter director who knew the Shelter environment would make him shut down and that to have a chance at a great life, he needed intensive hands-on work. The volunteers and staff made it a priority to shift Stanley's mindset. He had to learn to trust us; learn it was okay to approach us; and, that we truly wanted to hug him and just hang out...with him...that he was enough...just being him.

Thank you for your financial donations, donations of clothing and items to Saving Spot and words of encouragement as we try to help animals like Stanley, one by one, from overcrowded shelters grappling with the volume of animals being abandoned.

New Scholarship Pet STANLEY is a year old Shepherd/Poodle - Shepadoodle - who was taken to the shelter by his owner who didn’t realize that doodles require regular maintenance. He was a mess and hasn’t had much social interaction since he was likely living only outside. He is stunningly beautiful and witty. We are still getting to know each each other and can’t wait to show him what life as a family member can be.
