Hey neighbors 👋
On Tuesday, January 13, the Community Development Department Planning Division will hold a study session with the Burbank City Council to share an update on the Rancho Neighborhood Specific Plan (RNSP). The study session is at 5pm at City Council Chambers at Burbank City Hall.

The team will walk through where things stand and what’s coming next, including historic context, current land use regulations, equestrian ownership trends, safety concerns, economic conditions, mobility, and early themes identified through public outreach.
This is an informational meeting only, no votes, no decisions, but it’s an important moment to stay informed and stay engaged.
👉 You can download the staff report, submit public comment, or email the planning team to share your thoughts and concerns.
Check out Burbank Rancho Neighborhood Specific Plan’s website 👉 burbankrnsp.com
You can email the Project Planners, Greg Mirza-Avakyan or Amanda Landry at: [email protected] or [email protected]

Hope to see you there!!

After years of community advocacy, a key parcel of land at the edge of the LA River, trails, and the Mariposa Bridge, home to the Studio Horse rental barn, has been secured. This space supports public access to nature, equestrian experiences, education, habitat, and a way of life deeply rooted in this neighborhood, worth protecting for generations to come.

Bravo to everyone who helped make this a reality. Inspired and deeply grateful for the hard work, care, and persistence that made it possible.

*Note: The protected parcel sits directly adjacent to the proposed condo development site.*

From Gene Autry, the original Singing Cowboy, to this bridge has always carried music.

Seeing Orville riding through our neighborhood, crossing the historic Mariposa Street Bridge toward the Griffith Park trails, is exactly why this corner of Burbank matters. Culture, history, horses, music, and community, all sharing the same stretch of ground.
Even better, that sweet Appaloosa is a Rancho local, loved and owned by a neighbor.

This isn’t just a location, it’s a living crossroads. Some places are still doing exactly what they were built to do. That’s worth protecting.

Thank you for riding in our Rancho hope you enjoyed it as much as we do 🤎🐴

Rancho update just landed.
Friends of the Equestrian Bridge shared the latest on preserving our neighborhood, protecting our trails, and keeping the Rancho… the Rancho.

If you’re local, you may have found it in your mailbox already - we’re just helping spread the word.

If not, consider this your trail marker… our community is moving, organizing, and protecting what makes this place magic.

We are proud of this little horse-powered corner of LA and everything we’re fighting to protect. Horses, neighbors, open space, history—still worth fighting for. Always. 🤎🐴

This photo exists because of the Historic Mariposa Equestrian Bridge — a vital gateway connecting equestrians and hikers to the wild beauty of Griffith Park across the LA River.

Riders come from everywhere: the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, backyard barns, the Ranchos of Glendale and Burbank. Some even trailer in just to explore these iconic trails. This bridge isn’t just wood and steel — it’s a living link to LA’s equestrian heritage, and it fulfills the original vision of Mr. Griffith himself: for the people of Los Angeles to experience nature, freedom, and the open air.

But now, all of that is under threat. A massive condo development is planned just 53 feet from the bridge — putting the character, safety, and future of this historic corridor at serious risk.

🛑 We need your help.
Support the fight to protect this irreplaceable part of LA’s soul by donating to Friends of the Equestrian Bridge, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. They’re taking a stand — in court and in the community — to preserve the integrity of the Riverside Rancho and the magic of this bridge.
