On December 10th the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will vote to approve a mass rezoning proposal known as the West San Gabriel Valley Area Plan in a geographical region that extends from the 605 freeway west all the way to La Crescenta-Montrose.

The botched roll out and failed community engagement of the West San Gabriel Valley Area Plan is yet another example of the failure of the department of regional planning to include our diverse communities in any meaningful participation as part of this process.

The lack of language access accommodations and incomplete and inadequate environmental assessment suggests that this proposal will only serve as the latest example of a massive blank check to the wealthiest corporations in an unprecedented land grab.

This proposal not only represents a significant encroachment on many sensitive ecological areas including the Whittier Narrows and adjacent communities of South San Gabriel and El Monte, but also along the arroyo seco and in places like San Pascual—another attempt by our planning department to eradicate our historic equestrian communities.

The Planning department is working with developers to develop unaffordable condominiums while eliminating urban agricultural opportunities. They seek to eliminate all single family zoned housing within the region, under the guise of sustainability, but the rezoning proposal fails to consider the mass displacement of working class communities and communities of color in places like West Altadena.

Please click the link below, fill out your name (no address required) click item 7, select oppose, provide reason why (urbanization will displace the equestrian community), and click next:

We have been informed that after last week’s City Council action on the proposed condominium project at 910 S. Mariposa, the developer received a threatening email.
This type of hate speech is completely unacceptable and goes against everything we stand for.
We condemn it.
We have been informed that the Burbank Police are ivestigating and hope that the incident is brought to a conclusion.

The Burbank city council members tried to help but were convinced by the City Attorney that they were compelled to approve the monstrous 910 S Mariposa condos project because of the draconian state law SB35. The city claims and approved last night that the project meets all the SB35 guidelines - WE DISAGREE.
thank you to everyone who emailed, called and came to the meeting. We flooded their emails with 133 emails with proof, facts, expert reports, renderings, videos, photos etc. It will all be apart of the record. 45+ people spoke in person and over 12+ callers called in opposition to approving the project.
We have to raise our voice louder, and get the fight out further because ultimately this affects ALL RANCHOS in California. Together we will be stronger. This law encroaches upon our civil rights. In the near future we will be planning rides to help champion the Rancho and our message against sb35 and developers. Keep talking about this, don’t be discouraged. Keep informing people, raising awareness, calling friends we need to network this to the greater equestrian community, and communities fighting against SB35 and Scott Wiener’s office. We still need to raise funds for Friends of the Equestrian Bridge for their legal efforts against the City of Burbank and the developer for 910 South Mariposa (1) and possibly new litigation…So please help us get the word out.
I want to shout out the active members of Cancel the Condos, Friends of the Equestrian Bridge, and everyone who showed up last night in every capacity too many to name! And everyone who has been contributing to our cause - by participating in our community engagement. WOW - The community showed up and brought technical and passionate arguments to the city last night. I AM PROUD OF THIS COMMUNITY. What you don’t see in the 1min of public comment are the 1000s of hours put in outside of everyone’s jobs, preparing, fundraising, researching and planning how to put the best fight forward. I am proud to be apart of this community it’s a badass group of passionate souls who believe in their community, eachother and our animals. THANK YOU to everyone for your efforts and fighting for where I call home.

This image really puts things into perspective. This shows how close the Historic Mariposa Bridge is to the project site. Not only is the bridge located there, but two trails meet at the entrance of the bridge and Mariposa St and Valley heart both intersect there. So 5 “trails” meeting 53ft from the project site…
For a 40-unit condominium building with 89 bedrooms in Burbank, the total estimated daily vehicle trips, including residents and deliveries, would be approximately 297 trips per day. This figure accounts for resident usage as well as modern delivery demands. Calculations based based on information from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) to calculate the approximate traffic impacts. [visit site for comprehensive information : https://www.ite.org/tripgenappendices/ ]

This corner of the neighborhood is frequented by residents and visitors to enter Griffith Park and the trails boarding the Los Angeles River by the Historic Mariposa Bridge. Increasing vehicle traffic at this scale on this size of road will greatly impact the safety of residents and visitors. Mariposa is one lane road where cars cannot pass each other. This increase in traffic will create a bottle neck. Jeopardizing the public’s safety.

Remember this? This is a truck entering the project site S 910 South Mariposa…completely blocks the road. How does a developments vehicle traffic take precedent over the public’s health and safety? The city staff not including reports on traffic and public safety does not mean the threats do not exist. They do!
