Carter and Austin are two handsome 2-year-old brothers in search of a loving forever home. These sweet, shy boys come from a peaceful household with just one human, so the bustling shelter environment can be a bit overwhelming for them. They might greet you with a little hiss if you approach too quickly or loudly, letting you know they’re feeling nervous. But with a little patience and understanding, they will open up and reveal just how affectionate and gentle they truly are. Volunteers have been spending lots of time with them, and they’ve made tremendous progress. Once they know you, they love pets and attention.

In their previous home, Carter (all-black) was a bit more reserved, while Austin (black-and-white) tended to be more outgoing. Since arriving at the shelter, however, their personalities have shifted a bit—Carter has become a little less nervous and more attention-seeking, while Austin has grown a bit more cautious. It’s as if they’ve switched roles!

Austin loves to explore high places, so a tall cat tree or shelf would be perfect for him. He’ll enjoy having a place to climb and perch.

Though still a bit cautious, Carter and Austin have shown a love for Temptations treats and are big fans of toys. Once they feel safe and secure in a loving home, they’ll be back to enjoying their favorite snacks and playful activities in no time.

Carter and Austin would do best in a peaceful home with a patient, cat savvy person or family who can help them come out of their shells. These boys will be great companions once they’re settled in!

Come visit the Burbank Animal Shelter to adopt Austin and Carter!

This beautiful boy Mowgli is 5 years old. He was surrendered by his owner of 4 years, because she felt that she could no longer handle him. The former owner explained that Mowgli was overly protective of her and would act aggressively when people would approach her, and she was unable to control him. She also told us that she was unsure how he was with other dogs but had been okay with cats in the past.

Understandably, he was very depressed when he got here, and it took days and days for staff to get him to eat. With lots of love and attention, he realized that we weren’t so bad and started to come around. He is a big love bug! He is very affectionate and just wants to be with and around his people. He can be vocal and lets you know when he wants attention, by giving a big, loud wooooooooooooooo.
Mowgli is a sensitive boy and needs and experienced owner. He will need someone willing to socialize him safely and correctly and who has the time to take advantage of some specialized training, so he doesn’t fall back into that overly protective personality. For now, we will have to say no children.

He seems to be a clean boy (excluding the drool that comes with this breed) and seems to be potty trained. He loves wearing a cozy sweater and would love a couch of his own. We have fallen in love with this special boy, and we want to find him his forever home, with someone who understands his needs and requirements.

Come visit the Burbank Animal Shelter to foster or adopt Mowgli.

Murray is a super cute affectionate little dude. He was left in front of the shelter so we don’t know his history. We do know he loves attention and is very curious about his surroundings. He doesn’t necessarily ask for attention, but if you stop petting him too soon he will definitely let you know about. He can be quite the talker when he wants something. Otherwise he’s content to do his own thing. Murray likes to be held. We suspect it’s because he gets a better view of what’s happening around him. We suspect once he gets into a home of his own he will quickly take over and rule the roost.

Come visit the Burbank Animal Shelter to adopt Murray!

One of our volunteers spent time with Quill and had this to say:

"Quill is a typical Husky, he acts more like a cat than a dog. He is very quiet in the kennel, but if he sees a leash he want to go out. He pulls a bit on the leash but no more than any of other dogs.
You have to build trust with him, which didn’t take long for me to do. After about twenty minutes in the yard of him just trotting around and eating snacks I tossed on he ground, I thought he was done. I showed him the leash again and he barked at me, and then play bowed. We played chase for a good fifteen minutes. You have to watch him as he will over heat himself quickly. Typical husky.

After our play chase session I was able to easily put the leash on him and brush him for a good fifteen minutes. He let me pet him, scratch him etc. He then walked back to his kennel, with a bit of a trot. Went in easily and without issue.. He's a good dog. Just needs an experienced owner. Preferably a husky owner."

Say hi to Tonga- a charming and happy fella. This young guy is super fun and a total looker. He’s an athlete for sure….. he just may not know the rules of the game….. but he’s super up to learn! He is really friendly and eager to play, but also loves getting attention (treats were good too) and knowing what is going on. He seems to be an Akita mix and definitely had that Akita attentiveness. He’s a nice mid size (much smaller than a standard Akita) and has a medium level of fluff. He will need regular brushing to maintain that fluff, and regular exercise to manage his play level. In return, he will be your absolute bestie forever! You will never have a better bestie than him! You also will have a dog photo for any occasion at the ready on your camera roll cuz you’re gonna take so many pictures of this heartbreaker. Tonga will need some basic training and a nice consistent walk/ exercise/play routine. If this sounds like Tonga is your guy- head into the Burbank Animal Shelter and meet him for yourself, but be ready to take him home right away cuz you’re going to fall in love.

Come visit the Burbank Animal Shelter to foster or adopt Tonga!

Hi, I’m Lou!

I was found near a golf course, where one of the kind workers began feeding me. After a while, I made my way to the shelter in hopes of finding a loving home. At first, I was scared and unsure, but the amazing volunteers here never gave up on me. They offered treats, soft words, and gentle pets, slowly helping me realize that everything would be okay. Over time, I started to trust and let my guard down—these humans weren't so bad after all!

I’ve discovered that pets and treats are absolutely wonderful, but you know what’s even better? PLAYTIME! I’m a big fan of playing, whether it’s chasing a wand toy with you or pouncing on a mouse toy by myself.

Though I can still be a little shy and skittish at first, if you approach me gently, I’ll gladly accept your pets. But if you want to win my heart, just wave a wand toy in front of me—I can’t resist! I’m a young guy with lots of energy, and sometimes I get so excited I might give a playful swat (no claws, promise!) or a love bite. It’s all part of my playful nature, and I’ll likely grow out of it as I mature.

My ideal home would be with people who understand my shyness and energetic playfulness. Loud noises and sudden movements still make me nervous, so I’d do best in a calm, peaceful environment. If you’re patient and gentle, I know we could be the best of pals!

Say hello to Sven. This very young pup (5-6mos old) is already a big guy so he’s def going to be quite large when full grown. He’s a mix of several breeds most likely- but I see some German Shepherd and Labrador in there. He’s friendly and smart and eager to play and be involved in what you do. He also is at a very mouthy stage that needs consistent training to work through and is pretty high energy. So- he won’t be the right fit for just any home. His perfect humans would have large dog experience, positive reinforcement training knowledge (or desire to learn), lots of opportunity for exercise and a very good sense of humor. I had a lot of fun playing with him but did have to correct behaviors several times. Our training went awesome with him learning “touch” with incredible swiftness. If you’re looking for a buddy who will spend the next 15 years bringing you joy, making you crazy, and keeping you laughing and moving- Sven just might be the goofy guy for you.

Gracie is a sweet girl who loves pets and cuddles. She will sometimes be vocal about it, meowing to let you know it's time to pay her some attention :) She has beautiful, unique blue eyes and loves scritches behind the ears. She's also a big fan of being brushed. :-) She will often roll onto her side to make sure she's getting the most love possible. She's more interested in pets than treats or toys, and would do best in a home where she can get lots of love and attention! If she decides that she's uncomfortable or overstimulated, she may let you know when love time is over with more vocalization. But it seems Gracie will only become even more confident and relaxed in a home where she's comfortable.

Come to the Burbank Animal Shelter to meet Gracie, your new best friend!!

Meet Kanook!

True to the meaning of his name, Kanook embodies the spirit of the wolf. This stunning Siberian Husky has the most soulful brown eyes, filled with warmth and love just waiting to be shared. He's a dog that loves to be loved.

After getting his daily sniff quota in the yard, Kanook seeks out affection, leaning his whole body into you for cuddles. He might place a paw on your lap or gently jump up in excitement, but this smart boy listens well. Just ask him to sit, and he'll oblige. And if you're up for endless behind-the-ear scratches he's all in!

With his majestic presence and deep loyalty to his pack, Kanook carries the wild spirit of his ancestors while being the most devoted companion you could ask for.
Could Kanook be the perfect match for your home?

Say hello to this beautiful bonded duo: Sneakers (husky) and Boots (German Shepherd Mix). A volunteer spent time with her and had this to share:

"These 2 stunners are super sweet, in need of a spa day to get those winter sheds handled, and pretty chill when we hung out. Boots is the braver of the 2- coming up to me immediately and bring super curious and trying to hog all the pets being offered. Sneaker is way more shy, slower to warm up and content to hang back a little and just get her measure of me. Once we were hanging out for a bit they both determined I was pretty nice and knew all the good places to scritch and even had a pocket full of treats. We were limited in space, so I didn’t get to see them play or cut loose, how they behave on leash or around other dogs- maybe next time we will. I can say they were very gentle with me, even when pushing each other around. Not particularly reactive to the noise and movement going on around us. I was expecting to get pummeled by young playful dogs but they were very kind and polite. I was honored when Sneaker decided I could give pets and even a kiss on the head- since she’s so shy. We went slow and I had her smiling by the end. They’re really a lovely fluffy duo of ladies that would make for a great family completing pair."

Mariah is a big love bug who came to the shelter with 4 other cats. She loves attention from people. Whether you’re offering pets or treats Mariah is front and center. She will recipricate with lots of head buts and rubs. She’s curious about the comings and goings around her, but isn’t quite confident enough to want to be in the middle of the action. She’s shown a little interest in playing. We can only assume she’ll become more playful as she gets comfortable in a home of her own.

Come to the Burbank Animal Shelter to adopt Mariah.

Meet Tiffany!
Tiffany is a 9-month-old Belgian Malinois with a heart full of love and loyalty.
Tiffany has already learned commands like “sit” and “stay,” and her foster mom says she’s very well-behaved in the home—respectful of her bed and furniture, and great on a leash, usually walking calmly right by your side. She’s deeply loyal and protective of her person, which is typical of her breed.
Tiffany has done well with her foster mom’s male roommate, but she did react negatively to another male visitor, so she will need slow introductions to new people, especially men. Because of her protective instincts and high energy, she’ll do best in a home without small children and with a secure yard where she can run and play. Belgian Malinois are working dogs who need both mental and physical exercise to thrive, and Tiffany is no exception.
If you’re familiar with the breed and ready to give Tiffany the structure, space, and love she needs, she’ll reward you with endless loyalty and affection.

From a volunteer:
She’s still a young pup at approx 10-11 mos old, and has a playful spirit to go along with her age (she was very tolerant of me messing with her toys- check 2nd video). Mainly she loves love! She is a huge fan of meeting people, making friends, showing love and getting it back in return. She’s definitely part Malinois with the intelligence and loyalty that breed is known for. She’s also super snuggly and happy and just straight up gorgeous. She was already playing with another volunteer when I showed up and crashed the party. Tiffany welcomed me immediately as a new friend and asked me to join in the fun. I only meant to drop by but then I couldn’t leave cuz she was so much fun and just so full of joy. Tiffany deserves a forever home with humans who appreciate her goofy side, are eager to teach her everything she needs to know as an adult pup, will take her on long walks & adventures and are ok with her sharing the couch on movie nights. I am fully jealous of the family that ends up getting her as their forever buddy- she is an absolute prize of a pup.

Come visit the Burbank Animal Shelter to foster or adopt Tiffany!

Paula is a skinny little thing who came to the shelter with 4 other cats. They all got along but aren’t bonded. Paula should be fine as an only cat or with another cat friend. Her favorite thing is getting pets. From the top of her head to the tip of her tail, she revels in all the pets she can get. She may not ask for attention, but she has yet to turn it down when offered. She’s kind of a picky eater, which may be why she’s on the skinny side. She’ll politely ignore crunchy treats. Bring out a squeeze up treat and watch Paula make it disappear in record time.

Come to the Burbank Animal Shelter to adopt Paula!

Say hello to dynamic duo Princess and her baby Pea!!! The cute level with these 2 is off the charts! Princess is a bit of a teen mom- she’s only about 1 yr old herself, give or take. Pea is just about 11wks, give or take. Together they are a wrestling, playing, chewing ball of fun. We’re keeping them bonded because they’ve already been through a lot together and have so much fun together. Getting a bonded pair can be extra work but also the most fun ever. They keep each other busy and entertained, taking that workload off the humans- but that does mean you’re training and teaching 2 dogs at once, so it balances out. These 2 have a lot of energy so they definitely will need training. Pea is in a particularly mouthy stage (normal given her age) and needs to learn all the basics. Princess is super loving and enthusiastic but also needs all the starter training. They will need full attention and commitment to training for a while, but will develop in to being best friends to their humans and each other. That's a pretty solid up front investment in our book. One of the most reliable investments you can make these days. If you’re interested in meeting them and learning more- head into the Burbank Animal Shelter and fall in love with these goofs.

Come to the Burbank Animal Shelter to adopt Princess and Pea!
