Useless Bay Sanctuary

Useless Bay Sanctuary Useless Bay Sanctuary is a nonprofit rescue organization specializing in hard-to-catch stray dogs and found stray dogs. Why another rescue organization?

We focus on trying to find the owner who lost the dog before putting strays up for adoption. Many small and large rescue groups in the Seattle area work hard every day to help dogs and cats find new homes. Useless Bay Sanctuary helps dogs that may not get help at traditional rescues. We will focus on helping two categories of stray dogs. First, we will specifically try to help stray dogs running l

oose that are hard to catch. Jim Branson, who started Useless Bay Sanctuary, has over seven years of experience catching stray dogs that are hard to catch. Once captured, we will work to locate the owner for thirty days. Then we will find a new home for the dog if the owner is not located. Most shelters would put a found dog up for adoption after three days, reducing the chances of the owner locating her dog. The second category of dog we will help is the stray dog someone has found, and the finder is unwilling to take the dog to the local shelter. This could be out of fear that the dog would be euthanized. We are a no-kill rescue, to the extent it is in the best interests of the dog. (We would not keep a dog alive, in agony due to an untreatable medical condition, just for the sake of keeping the dog alive.) Most rescue groups do not accept found stray dogs, and they refer the finder to the local shelter. We will accept found strays, as funding allows, and work to find the original owner. We will register the found dog with the local shelter, and keep the dog in foster care. If the dog is not neutered or spayed, we will have the dog fixed before putting him or her up for adoption at the end of thirty days. Dogs go to new homes that have been checked and approved. The type of dogs entering this rescue would probably be at a higher risk of escaping from their new homes, so we take preventive measures. This rescue was started on August 24th, 2013, and received a letter from the IRS recognizing us as a registered 501c3 nonprofit charity. We are also license and registered with the state of Washington. Please watch this page for updates, found dogs, adoptable dogs, and opportunities to volunteer or donate.

This stray dog had been running in Everett for days. UBS volunteers helped him get safe, using Calming Signals. He doesn’t seem to have a microchip. Please share his post so he can find his people. He is at the Everett Shelter currently. If you would like to foster him, please let the shelter know.

In August of 2021, UBS was asked to capture 4 unruly puppies who appeared to have been dumped at a trailhead near Snoqualmie. 3 years later, Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael are all happily adopted. They had a reunion yesterday, and all of their parents enjoyed watching them play. Recently, UBS has had major veterinary expenses for the dogs in our care, including a new batch of five puppies who will need to be spayed and neutered. Our funds have been running low. Please donate and help us help dogs like these Ninja Turtles.

Update: we will postpone this reunion until we can find a date when more people are available.

UBS reunion at Useless Bay off leash area at noon September 3, low tide. Who could attend? I’m hoping all 4 Turtles could be there.

Juliette is a sweet, senior lady who is dreaming of a family of her own. This darling girl is 8 years old and weighs 10 pounds.

Juliet is confident and knows what she likes. She would love a family that will include her in all their adventures. She would be a great walking, running or hiking buddy. Juliette would also enjoy a couch to cuddle on and take in the warmth of the sunbeams as they stream through the window.

Juliette has met, and done well with, other small dogs. It is unknown how she would react to bigger dogs and, because of that, she will need an introduction to any resident dogs of potential adopters. This girl is pretty energetic and might be a bit of a cat chaser, therefore, her rescuers are asking for a feline free home. Juliette will enjoy an adult only home where she won't be challenged with energetic children.

Juliette is posted for Save-A-Mutt. She is being fostered in Snohomish County, WA. If you'd like to learn more about Juliette, please email: [email protected] or check out their Petfinder link: https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=WA630

This is not an Old Dog Haven dog. Old Dog Haven has not assessed this dog for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

We can't understand how it is that Danny is still available for adoption! He sounds like a wonderful doggie. Danny is a young senior we are sharing for our friends at Save-A-Mutt. Will you start your Friday with a share for him?🙏

8 year old Danny is a sweet soul who is ready to find a family that will be his forever. He is a little cautious at first but once you show him kindness he will be yours forever. Danny is a handsome, 9 pound chihuahua. He will be happiest in a calm, predictable home. Although he is fine alone he would love a family that isn't gone for the long work day...he loves having his people around him.

Danny has lived with other dogs and is doing great with the dogs and cats in his foster home. Just give this sweetheart a cozy bed and blanket and that's all he needs....even better if it's right next to you! Small children can be quick and unpredictable in nature, therefore, his rescuers are asking for a home without children under 10 years of age. Danny is crate trained and housebroken.

Danny recently had a Senior Wellness Exam with bloodwork. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines.

Danny is posted for Save-A-Mutt. He is being fostered in Snohomish County, WA. If you'd like to learn more about Danny, please email: [email protected] or check out their Petfinder link: https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=WA630

This sweet girl is looking for a foster or adopter. She is good with kids and does well in a home. She has been reactive around strangers and other dogs, so she needs patience and training. She is about 1 year old, 60 pounds. She was found in Renton six weeks ago. Please let us know if you can help her.

This sweet girl was found wandering in Duvall. She has mange, which is treatable, and a fever. Please share her picture so we can find her family. Also, please let us know if you would be interested in fostering her.

Please consider Donating to Useless Bay Sanctuary. With so many dogs going missing lately, we would greatly appreciate you becoming a Monthly Donor. This helps with the cost of equipment, maintenance, gas, food for trapping, camera subscriptions, posters, training, and veterinarian costs. With your support, we can make a huge difference and help save more lives. UBS is a non-profit tax deductible 501(c)3 http://www.uselessbaysanctuary.org/donate.html

Edited to add, for clarification, in case anyone misunderstood, donations go to the future care of this dog and other dogs in our care. As stated in the original post, donations also go to equipment and supplies for our volunteers. We are an all-volunteer organization and no one at UBS collects any salary. When this dog was first taken to the vet, several kind donors made payments directly to the vet, covering initial expenses. If anyone thought their donation was specifically going to this dog’s initial treatment, we apologize for any misunderstanding. Your donations benefit all the dogs we help, and we appreciate our donors. We couldn’t do it without you.

Found in Issaquah near the trailhead for the Bullit Fireplace Trail on Squak Mountain. This dog had been coming to a home in the area for five days before UBS volunteers trapped her. (Not 100% certain it’s female.) She has no microchip or tag. (That’s a collar we put on her.) Please let us know if you recognize her.

This very good dog was seen being pushed out of a black car at the Lowell Boat Launch in Everett. He ran after the car as they sped away. Then he hid in the trees and in the nearby farm field, hoping his owners might return. Useless Bay Sanctuary volunteers worked to capture him over the next 24 hours and we finally got him into a humane trap. He does not have a microchip. He is a young male, well-behaved. We need a foster home for him. Also, on the slim chance that the people who pushed him out of the car were not his actual owners, please share his picture in case someone is looking for him.
