IMPORTANT International Pet Travel Update
Our team wanted to alert you to an upcoming change in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) rules for dogs coming into the United States from ANY foreign country, including Canada. This pertains to dogs traveling into the US or returning to the US by any source of transportation—boat, car, train, plane, etc. These new rules go into effect on August 1, 2024.
There are two levels of concern: one for pets from high-risk rabies countries and another for low-risk rabies countries such as Canada. Since Canada is considered a low-risk rabies country, when traveling back to the US from Canada, the pet will need a current ISO chip, a current rabies vaccine given after the ISO chip was placed, a copy of their endorsed rabies vaccine certificate form, and an owner-completed CDC dog import form.
In the link below you can use the DogBot below to determine what rules apply to your dog based on the dates of travel and where your dog is traveling from.

Please know that we do not yet know how quickly the USDA will be able to complete the Rabies vaccine certification documentation and therefore how far ahead of time we will need to complete these documents to successfully allow you to travel with your pet across the border, so please give us as much notice as possible. There is no way to RUSH a last-minute certificate for clients who do not plan ahead or forget to notify us of anticipated travel.
Please reach out to us if you have upcoming travel plans and questions about the new regulations!
