We recently shared some important, timely information about international pet travel requirements from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We want to keep you updated on an upcoming change in the CDC rules for dogs entering the United States from ANY foreign country, including Canada. These new rules apply to dogs traveling into or returning to the U.S. by any mode of transportation—boat, car, train, plane, etc. The new regulations will go into effect on August 1, 2024.
Since sharing this information, the CDC has clarified and simplified the process for bringing dogs into the United States from rabies-free and low-risk dog rabies countries.
Details follow:
-Dogs entering or returning to the United States must have been only in dog rabies-free or low-risk countries in the past six months.
-Must complete the CDC Dog Import Form.
-Dogs must appear healthy upon arrival.
-Dogs must be at least six (6) months old at the time of entry or return to the U.S.
-Dogs must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them.
