In continuation of Staff Appreciation Friday, we have up next, a newer face at HVH.
Everyone, meet Ellis!

Q: Tell me about your animals!
A: "I have a Chow Chow, Augustine, who will be 11 in October I also have 3 sassy cats. Littles, who is 13 and not very little at all. Then there are the twins, Luna and Abby, both are 8 with very different personalities."

Q: What is your favorite thing to do after work or what is a hobby you have?
A: "Love taking my dog out to the park. Augustine enjoys sniffing everything; we call it: going on a "sniffari." I also enjoy watching new Star Trek and relaxing with one of my many art projects.

Q: What is your favorite breed (cat and/or dog) and why?
A: "Some of my favorite dog breeds include: The Chow Chow, Bull Terrier, Bassett Hound, and the Karelian Bear Dog. I tend to love breeds with that "Stubborn attitude." Some of my favorite cat breeds are: the Devon Rex and the Sphinx. While I don't have one yet, I love hairless or almost hairless cats.
Fun fact: my favorite pig is the Kunekune!

Q: What is one thing you want people to know about you or the hospital?
A: "My passion has always been to provide quality and compassionate client/patient care. I also enjoy client education and am always happy to answer basic patient care questions. A good example of this is: How to trim those black toe nails with out cutting the quick. Or potty training steps with the new puppy at home."

As we are rounding out the end of Intestinal Parasite Prevention Month, please remember a couple of key points:

- You can't always see if your pet is infected.
- Your pet may already be exhibiting signs that they are infected.
- You can become infected.
- You may inadvertently be infecting another pet.

It is always a good idea to bring a stool sample in with you to your pets appointment, even if you aren't sure its necessary. Sometimes, your pets stool sample can have information that may be a missing piece to the puzzle.

Answer:
The Lagotto Romagnolo, Italy's adorable 'truffle dog,' sports a curly coat and lavish facial furnishings. Despite their plush-toy looks, Lagotti are durable workers of excellent nose who root out truffles, a dainty and pricey delicacy.

Italians have a word for it: 'carino.' In English, we say 'cute.' In any language, this breed is totally endearing. The Lagotto Romagnolo (plural: Lagotti Romagnoli) is known for wooly curls that cover the body head to tail, crowned by a lavish beard, eyebrows, and whiskers. Lagotti stand under 20 inches and weigh no more than 35 pounds. But don't be fooled by their teddy-bear looks, these are rugged workers of true strength and endurance. The breed's trademark curls feel and behave more like human hair than fur.

A: "Harvey (Standard Poodle), Gypsum (Aussie Mix), and Franklin (Standard Poodle) are my sweet, silly, ridiculous doggy trio. They bring so much joy, chaos, and light to my world ♥️"

Q: What is your favorite thing to do after work or what is a hobby you have?
A: "I love to sit on my porch swing and read while my Poodle boys play in the yard."

Q: What is your favorite breed (cat and/or dog) and why?
A: "Standard Poodles of course! They are often misunderstood, but when you really know them, they are playful, energetic, brilliant, and cuddly. And we must not forget, beautiful and regal 😍🐩"

Q: What is one thing you want people to know about you or the hospital?
A: "To me, Highline has been a wonderful haven for me, in an industry that can be really hard at times. I feel, at Highline, I get to help people and their pets at my fullest potential, and share that fulfillment with wonderful, like minded people."

The Mudi is a medium sized Hungarian herding dog known for its intelligence, loyalty, and protective nature.
They recently have been recognized by AKC as of 2022 and are becoming a little more popular. The Mudi is a versatile farm dog that can be an excellent family companion.
Appearance: up to 18.5 inches tall, and up to 30 pounds. They have a wedge-shaped head, almond-shaped eyes, and a medium wavy or curly coat.
Coat colors can be solid or merle black, brown, white, yellow, or gray.

Tell us about your pets: "I have a Pomchi named Sada Baby and an American Bully named Mr. Wick"

What is your favorite thing to do after work or what is a hobby you have? "My favorite thing to do outside of work is to relax and spend time with friends and family and watch DVDs. My hobbies include singing and dancing and quote movie lines."

What is your favorite breed (cat and/or dog) and why? "My favorite breed is anything that is thick, short and has a smooshed face."

What is one thing you want people to know about you or the hospital? "One thing I would like people to know about me is that I am going to school at Evergreen Beauty College to be a licensed esthetician."

Intestinal Parasite Prevention Month Continued…

We’ve all been there… you catch your dog drinking out of a random puddle or grabbed a random piece of food while you’re out on your daily walks.

It is difficult to track and predict our pets every move, especially if they spend a lot of times outdoors.

Giardia cannot be seen by the naked eye like some other parasites but is very contagious to not only your pets but also to humans 🦠

Common symptoms of Giardia:
• Diarrhea/Vomiting
• Weight Loss
• Lack of Energy
• Gas/Bloating
• Dehydration

Giardia is transmitted by ingesting contaminated water, soil, food or objects. Rolling around in contaminated soil/grass or surfaces - licking their fur after having done so increases risk of infection.

Prevention:
- Make sure your pet has access to fresh water/food.
- Restrict access to stagnant water sources.
- Clean up after your pets to not allow others to come in contact with contaminated f***s.
- Bathe your dog (pet) when necessary.
- Wash your hands thoroughly, especially if you know/suspect your pet may have been rolling around somewhere unknown, even if it’s your own yard.

Starting today, we at Highline will temporarily stop accepting new clients. This is a tough decision, even for a short period of time, but due to the length of time we are currently booked out we felt it was necessary to continue seeing the clients already established with us. If you are currently a client and have a new pet we have not yet seen, you are welcome to make them an appointment, this is only in reference to new clients. We are hopeful to be able to open acceptance to new clients in the near future, and will update as we have more information. Thank you for your understanding, and as always, please contact us for any questions or concerns.

We need towels! Here at Highline we use towels for many things, and all that we have is donated by our employees and clients. If you have any bath or beach towels laying around collecting dust, we would love to take them off your hands! Just drop by the clinic and hand them off to our front desk. We appreciate any and all donations, and the continued support of our clients and their furry friends.

Student and summer team member, Lola, painted a mural on the side of our building for her college senior thesis project! 🎨 "Artwork can play a significant role in community identity, which is why for my WSU Honors College Thesis project I chose to create a mural which could be representative of the natural beauty found at nearby Seahurst Beach. Each neighborhood is unique and murals can help to highlight local history and attractions. They can provide individuals within a community common ground and something to take pride in. Having been fortunate to experience a variety of murals in the stomping grounds of my youth, I wanted to create something interactive that people could have fun posing with and recognize cross generationally." - Lola Taylor

The world is starting to open up all around us and we cannot wait to welcome you INTO our hospital again sometime soon! However, we are still waiting on some team members to be fully vaccinated before allowing clients to come into our small building. We want to make sure we all stay healthy so that we do not have to close due to illness or exposure. Our main goal is to stay open so we can continue to take care of pets in our community. We appreciate your cooperation as we continue CURBSIDE appointments for the foreseeable future. We’ll update you as things change.
