Is Your Dog Protected from the Flu? π€§ Let's Talk Canine Influenza Virus (CIV)!
Just like humans, dogs can get the flu! Canine Influenza Virus (CIV), including strains like H3N2 and H3N8, is a highly contagious respiratory disease that's becoming more prevalent. It spreads quickly through sniffing, licking, barking, coughing, or even contaminated surfaces like dog park toys or water bowls.
Symptoms can range from a persistent cough and runny nose to fever, lethargy, and loss of appetite. In severe cases, it can even lead to pneumonia and be life-threatening, especially for puppies, senior dogs, or those with underlying health issues.
Why vaccinate against CIV?
Highly Contagious: It spreads rapidly in places where dogs gather.
Reduces Severity: Even if your dog is exposed, vaccination can significantly lessen the severity and duration of illness.
Prevents Outbreaks: Vaccinating helps protect the wider dog community in Burien and beyond!
If your dog frequently interacts with other dogs at dog parks, groomers, boarding facilities, or training classes, the Canine Influenza vaccine is highly recommended.
