🐾 Lumps and Bumps: What to Look For 🐾
As pets age, especially dogs, it’s common to find new lumps and bumps. Many are harmless, like fatty lipomas or warts, but some may require further attention. That’s why it’s always best to have any lump checked.

FUN K9 FACT! Dogs can actually see in color, but their perception of color is different from ours. They are more sensitive to blue and yellow, while red and green are more difficult for them to differentiate.

🐾Do you know the signs of pet dehydration? 💧

Dehydration can be a serious issue for dogs and cats. Here are some signs to watch out for:

- Dry nose and gums
- Loss of appetite
- Lethargy or weakness
- Decreased skin elasticity (skin tenting)
- Sunken eyes
- Excessive panting

If you notice any of these symptoms, contact us immediately. If left untreated, dehydration can lead to more severe health problems.

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD): A common condition that affects the bladder and urethra in cats, which can be painful and lead to urinary blockages.

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM): A heart condition that causes the walls of the heart to thicken, leading to potential heart failure.

Obesity: Black cats, like other cats, can be prone to obesity if not given a proper diet and exercise.

Dental Disease: Dental issues, including gingivitis and periodontitis, are common in cats and require regular dental care.

Hyperthyroidism: A condition often seen in older cats, characterized by an overactive thyroid gland, which can lead to weight loss, increased appetite, and other symptoms.

A graduate of the prestigious Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University in Tirupathi, India, he also holds a Master’s Degree in Animal Sciences from Texas A&M University. With experience as a Veterinary Associate in the D.C. Metro area and as a full-time emergency veterinarian at Columbia Pike Animal Hospital, Dr. Motanam is well-prepared to continue the tradition of excellence you expect from Village Vet.
