🐾 Lumps and Bumps: What to Look For 🐾
As pets age, especially dogs, it’s common to find new lumps and bumps. Many are harmless, like fatty lipomas or warts, but some may require further attention. That’s why it’s always best to have any lump checked.

A simple test, called a fine needle aspirate, can often give us answers without sedation or anesthesia. If the lump is benign, great! If not, we’ll work with you on the best next steps, including surgery or other treatments. Early detection can make all the difference.

🌟 Wet or Dry? Let’s Talk Cat Food! 🐾

One common question at Village Vet is: "Should I feed my cat wet or dry food?" The answer depends on several factors like your cat’s health, weight, and even your budget.

💧 Wet food offers higher moisture content, making it ideal for cats with certain health conditions, like kidney or urinary issues. Plus, picky eaters often love it!

🍲 Dry food, on the other hand, is convenient and cost-effective, and it can be great for automatic feeders or puzzle toys.

So, what’s best for your cat? A combination of both might be the answer! Chat with Dr. Lonam or Dr. Loki during your annual wellness visit to find the right balance for your furry companion’s needs. 😺

Happy National Dog Day! 🐶🐾

Let's celebrate our furry friends and show them how much we love them. Don't forget to schedule a wellness exam or catch up on your pet's vaccinations. A healthy dog is a happy dog!

FUN K9 FACT! Dogs can actually see in color, but their perception of color is different from ours. They are more sensitive to blue and yellow, while red and green are more difficult for them to differentiate.

🐾Do you know the signs of pet dehydration? 💧

Dehydration can be a serious issue for dogs and cats. Here are some signs to watch out for:

- Dry nose and gums
- Loss of appetite
- Lethargy or weakness
- Decreased skin elasticity (skin tenting)
- Sunken eyes
- Excessive panting

🐾Black cats don't have specific diseases or conditions that are uniquely more prominent due to their color. However, like all cats, they can be prone to certain common feline health issues, such as:

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD): A common condition that affects the bladder and urethra in cats, which can be painful and lead to urinary blockages.

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM): A heart condition that causes the walls of the heart to thicken, leading to potential heart failure.

Obesity: Black cats, like other cats, can be prone to obesity if not given a proper diet and exercise.

Dental Disease: Dental issues, including gingivitis and periodontitis, are common in cats and require regular dental care.

Hyperthyroidism: A condition often seen in older cats, characterized by an overactive thyroid gland, which can lead to weight loss, increased appetite, and other symptoms.

Schedule an appointment today for your cat, of any color, for their annual exam for screening and vaccines.

🩺 10 Common Pet Emergencies You Shouldn't Ignore 🐾

At Village Veterinary Clinic, your pet's health and safety are our top priority. Emergencies can happen at any time, and being prepared can make all the difference. Here are 10 of the most common pet emergencies we see, listed in order of frequency:

Vomiting and Diarrhea: Often caused by ingesting something harmful, these symptoms can lead to severe dehydration and need immediate attention.

Ingestion of Toxic Substances: Common household items like chocolate, certain plants, or medications can be dangerous or even deadly for pets.

Trauma or Accidents: Whether it's a fall, being hit by a car, or a fight with another animal, injuries can be more severe than they appear.

Difficulty Breathing: If your pet is struggling to breathe, it's a sign of a serious issue that requires urgent care.

Seizures: A sudden seizure can be frightening and may indicate an underlying medical condition.

Urinary Blockages: Particularly common in male cats, this condition can be life-threatening if not treated quickly.

Eye Injuries: From scratches to foreign objects, eye injuries need prompt care to prevent permanent damage.

Allergic Reactions: Swelling, hives, or difficulty breathing can all be signs of an allergic reaction that needs immediate treatment.

Ingesting Foreign Objects: Pets, especially dogs, may swallow toys, bones, or other objects that can cause blockages or internal damage.

Heatstroke: Especially in warmer months, pets can quickly overheat, leading to dangerous situations.

⏰ Don't wait if you notice any of these symptoms! The sooner your pet receives care, the better their chances for a full recovery. Call us immediately at 703-978-8655 or visit our website .com for detailed instructions on what to do next.

Your pet's good health is our mission
