Remember Me Christmas Wish List!
Our 20+ year old golf cart is needing $2k worth of repairs. So, we are hoping one of our generous followers needs a year end gift write off or has a cart, mule, or ranger that they do not use and could donate to help us do our horse chores and give tours to visitors.
Remember Me Rescue is a 501(c)3 and all gifts are tax deductible.

We are so proud to be one of only 24 organizations awarded a grant through CARMA's Howard Zucker grant program. Thank you CARMA and everyone who supports this wonderful organization.

CARMA is thrilled to announce the continued impact of the Howard “Howie” Zucker Grant Program, renamed last year to honor our late past president and dedicated board member, Howard Zucker. This December, CARMA is proud to award $475,000 to 24 aftercare charity partners —an increase of $25,000 over last year— underscoring our unwavering commitment to the welfare of retiring racehorses.

Many times people who own or train racehorses get a bad reputation for not caring and not contributing to their future. I have to say, even though Kid Callaghan's trainer past away earlier this year, his trainers partner really stepped up for him. Thank you Terry for helping with Kid's expenses.

We need a local volunteer with confident horse experience to commit to coming out a minimum of 3 times a week to help with therapy on Three Girls. It will take about an hour each day to groom, pick feet, and take her to the Thera-plate. Then she will need her legs rubbed. Must be able to follow directions. It doesn't matter if it is mornings or afternoons. Any takers?

I know it's just been 2 weeks, but who can see an improvement in Kid Callaghan?Top pic 12/3/24, bottom pic 12/17/24.

Royal Distinction was returned on Saturday. I'm not making this post to bash the adopter, I'm making it to plead with people to return your horses as soon as you see your finances aren't allowing you to properly care for them. She called me a month before to ask if she could return him. But even though we said yes, for another month he was left in a pasture with cows.
Thoroughbreds can not survive turned out with cows, eating cow hay.
Please do better.
When Royal Distinction is ready, he will need a companion only, non riding home. We are keeping him here until 2/1/25 to put some weight on him. If you are interested in him, we invite you to come meet him or volunteer to help with his rehabilitation.
Please, no bashing. I already know our followers feel the same way I do.

2 weeks after his arrival, Kid Callaghan had a special visitor, Terry Propps, Charlie Smith's partner. She remembered having Kid at their farm and breaking him for the track. After 4 uneventful starts at the races, they brought him back to their Texas farm and found him a home with some of their friends who ironically live just down the road from Remember Me. When they sold their farm last year, the new owner wanted to keep the horses. Seemed like a good idea since the horses would get to stay at the home they had known for the last 10 years. We'll, the new owners were not exactly horse people and Kid suffered from their ignorance. When they couldn't stand to look at his big boney body any longer, they sold/gave him away or took him to the auction in Cleburne themselves. Who knows the truth, who cares? The fact is they dumped him.
As fate would have it, he went from starving at their farm, to Cleburne auction, to McLean, Texas feed lot, and now he's back only a little over a mile from where he was. But now, he's safe here at Remember Me.
He has a little more time in QT and then months of rehabilitation before he will be back to a normal weight but one thing is for sure. We will not let him down.
Visitors are welcome after the first of the year. Please message the page if you would like to come meet and love on this sweet boy. He needs all the support he can get.
Who thinks he already is showing improvement?

👏Before and After👏
Here is and example of what six weeks in a good program can do. The first pictures were taken November 4th, just after we picked up Three Girls from a kill pen is Stroud, Oklahoma.
The last 2 pictures were taken December 10th after her quarantine at Remember Me Rescue.
Three Girls still needs months of rehab for her sesamoid to heal, but her recovery is going extremely well. If you are interested in giving this sweet girl a home please consider coming out to volunteer to help with her rehabilitation. She needs lots of leg rubs and someone to hold her on the Thera-plate.
