Our boy, Midnight Bayou, was rushed to Lone Star Park Equine Hospital this morning with a eye infection. Dr. Gilchrist says it's bacterial and needs to be medicated every hour so he is staying at the clinic.

Please help us with his unexpected vet bill, we have to save this eye if at all possible!!

Custom For Chloe is a 10 year old mare available for adoption at Remember Me in Burleson, Texas. She is a very pretty mare standing 15.2 hands tall. Chloe has been led through our obstacle course and wasn't bothered by much. She is ridable but is somewhat barn sour. She seems to ride fine in a round pen or small arena. She will need an experienced trainer to work her through that.
Chloe gets along well with other mares and would be a good companion for an older horse. She is good for the farrier and has no other bad habits or vices.
Adoption fee $500

Join us in wishing our sanctuary residents a happy birthday in 2024!

Ohbeegeewhyen is a 23 year old chestnut mare with uvetis and is blind in both eyes.
Tricky Prospect is a 26 year old gelding who was rescued from a sale barn in 2016.
Marfalous Friend is a 27 year old, chestnut mare donated by her owner who had terminal cancer to live out the rest of her days here
Hero's Crown is an 18 year old gelding, blind in both eyes. He is the son of Marfalous Friend and was donated by the same owner.
Laycock Bay is a 13 year old chestnut gelding who was rescued from a local sale barn. His special needs make him unadoptable.

With a new year starts a new goal to fundraise for their care. Consider giving a monthly donation to help us continue to care for these unadoptable horses. Feed and hay have nearly doubled in price in since and we need your help. These residents also need new coggins and their yearly vaccinces. Visit our website at www.retiredracehorses.org for more info on monthly giving or to make a one time donation.

Punto Raffa Volo is a dark bay gelding by Fast Anna, born on April 28, 2020. He stands over 16 hands tall. And, I have to say, is one of the best minded horses we have worked with.

Volo has done everything we have asked of him and more. He has a long attention span and is easy to train. He will need to be with an intermidiate rider or a good trainer, not because he is naughty or bad, but because he is very smart and could easily learn the wrong things with unexperienced hands. Volo could be anything and go anywhere in the right program.

Volo has been ridden Western and English. He has a nice walk, trot, and canter. He will do lead changes if you set him up for them. He side passes, half passes, and backs and has been hauled to an arena and tracked a mechanical roping dummy. I don't think there is anything he couldn't do.

Volo does not have any vices or bad habits. He does have kissing spine but our vet has cleared him to do anything. He stands well for the farrier, bathes, and grooming time. He is easy to saddle and bridle. Please message the page for more information.

This is Hero's Crown. He is one of our permanent residents here at Remember Me. Hero was donated to our program, (along with his dam, Marfalous Friend), by Anne Johnson. Anne was a good friend of who was diagnosed with a terminal form of stomach cancer. She provided a fund for them that would take care of their needs for years to come.

Recently Hero was involved in an unfortunate accident in one of our paddocks playing with another resident, Laycock Bay. We were right there when it happened but there wasn't anything we could do to change the outcome. They were rearing and playing, Hero hit his head on the roof on a paddock shed he was standing partly under and was instantly blind. We consulted with many equine eye specialists, but he severed his optic nerve, and it cannot be repaired.

We kept Hero in a stall for a few months. We spent a lot of time teaching him how to find and come to us with voice commands and gave him time to get used to his new disability. Then, after much consultation with an equine ophthalmologist, we picked him the perfect buddy, Tricky Prospect, (a 26 year old permanent resident here) and took him to his new paddock. We spent some time walking with Hero and Tricky, who were already good friends from his previous paddock, and then allowed him to explore the paddock alone.

I can't say I didn't hold my breath as he would lose track of Tricky and then panic a little, but it all turned out ok. He has adapted very well, and I have no concerns, even when he jogs in his big circles or can't find Tricky.

I felt compelled to share his story. We love our horses and will do anything to make sure they are cared for. And, I know how much Anne loved Hero and we will honor her commitment to her horses.

I hope by sharing this we can raise awareness of our other residents who need sponsors. Hero and his dams' expenses will always be cover by Anne and her generous family and friends, but Tricky, Laycock, and Ohbeegeewhyen need help. If you would like to help us meet their needs, we offer a monthly sponsorship through our website but appreciate one-time donations too! Please consider joining Team RE-start, and joining our team to care for our unadoptable horses who will live out their days here with us.

Dr Hesse is a big chestnut gelding born on March 26, 2016. He raced 9 times and won one race, earning $6,915. His last race was 2/22/2020 and he finished 9th. He didn't finish the race well and was lame afterward. Dr Hesse was given away and quickly became part of the kill pen scheme. He was bailed by racing fans and with the help of his previous racing owner. He was sent to us to rehab and retrain.

He was adopted in 2020 to be used in a Veterans program but is back at RMR, due to no fault of his own. He is sound for light riding and can be turned out 24/7. He is currently out with 4 other geldings and is not herd aggressive. He will be suitable for a beginner with instruction thanks to the training he received by his last owner (not the original adopter).

She said he loves going through the water. She also mentioned that she has gone months without riding him and then just lunge him for a few minutes before going on a great ride.

Dr Hesse has arthritis in both knees from his racing days, one is noticibly larger. He travels fine and is ridable, but we would prefer someone who wants to do light trails and someone who doesn't care about cantering or going fast.

Dr Hesse's adoption fee is $500.

👀👀👀Check out this guy 👀👀👀

This is Goldie Wilson, (extra credit if you can name what movie he was in). Goldie is a coming 3 year old who has been here for a couple of months. He retired from racing sound but we wanted to give him a little break after the track before we started training. He has been lightly restarted but will remain in training here until he finds his person.

Goldie has no known soundness issues that could prevent a second career in any discipline. He stands a little over 16 hands now so he is going to be a big boy and might need a little time to finish his current growth spurt. He is super cute and loves attention. He has been through our desensitization and obstacle course and was a total .

His adoption fee is reduced right now but will go up as training increases. Don't miss out on this young, sound project horse.

😁Can anyone tell me what Viatorem means in Latin?

Viatorem is about as handsome as they come. He has been retired from racing for over a year now after being rehabbed from a minor injury. He has been lightly restarted and will be easy for someone to finish. He is smart and funny, likes attention, and you will never leave the barn without a giggle.

Viatorem has nice conformation and enough mane, forelock, and tail for 5 horses. He will need front shoes for the time being but has good feet for a thoroughbred. He also has all the personality you will need to never have a bad barn day!!! 🤣

Although Viatorem is fully rehabilitated and could probably do anything, we prefer a non-competitive home and no speed events for his next chapter. Viatorem has a reduced adoption fee right now because we are at capacity. Don't miss out on a super nice project horse.

Custom For Chole is a 10 year mare who stands 15.2 hands tall. She looks black all year long, but is registered as a dark bay or brown. She has the sweetest face, and a cute QH figure. She is kind and likes being groomed and handled. She has been through our obstacle courses and wasn't bothered by much.

Chloe has been off the track since 2017. She was restarted and adopted in 2019 but hasn't been ridden much in the last few years. We recently restarted her again here. She rides great in the round pen but is barn sour outside of it. A good trainer could work through this. But, since she gets along well in a mare herd, she could also make a great companion for a senior.

We are at our limit here at RMR and have several horses already in training. If we can find an adopter with training experience or a companion home for Chloe we would greatly reduce her adoption fee.

⭐️ $5 Friday ⭐️

Skip your Starbucks and donate $5 to our hay fundraiser! This week we’re raising money for hay for all of our horses, adoptable and permanent residents!

Your donation goes directly towards the cost of alfalfa hay, which are horses eat twice a day. It’s a staple to their diet and vitally important to their nutrition.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated! - Molly

We can’t think of a better name for the California Retirement Management Account (CARMA) grant program. We’re honored to receive a grant. Howie Zucker was instrumental in getting Starship Chewy to us. He passed shortly after the horse’s arrival. Many thanks to CARMA for their continued support - Molly

The California Retirement Management Account (CARMA) proudly announces the renaming of its grant program to the Howard "Howie" Zucker Grant Program, in honor of Howard Zucker, our late past president and long-serving board member. Accompanying this significant renaming, CARMA is awarding $451,000 to 23 aftercare charity partners this December, continuing our commitment to the welfare of retiring racehorses.

Dr Hesse is a 7 year old, chestnut gelding looking for an easy retirement. He has impeccable manners and adores people. He’s always up for being groomed or snacking on carrots. This guy came off the track with a knee injury. He was rehabbed but he does have limitations. Dr Hesse is a smart horse that picks up new things quickly. Dr Hesse is limited to trail riding and light work. He’d also excel at in-hand work, he’s got a sharp mind. Please message the page for more details! - Molly
