This is a microfilariae, a baby heartworm, which circulate throughout the body in a Pet’s bloodstream. One of our patients today tested positive for heartworms on her 4DX (yearly heartworm test). We used a droplet of her blood and put it on a slide to look at under the microscope. That’s when we saw these pesky little guys. Heartworm disease is entirely preventable by giving your dog monthly heartworm prevention. Heartworm treatment is expensive and can be hard physically on a dog. Monthly heartworm prevention is much less costly at anywhere from $9-13 a month depending on the size of your dog. Keep your pet protected by having them on Heartworm prevention. We spayed and neutered 15 adoptable kittens from one of our shelter partner’s, PAWS of Dearborn County today. They are all available to adopt and will be headed to the Purrfect Day Cat Cafe Covington tomorrow! These cuties would love a forever home for the holidays.
