Here is the second video of me working on cookie learning how to be comfortable wearing a halter. This is her second session ever.

My timing is off as far as using the clicker. I'm still not clear if I should be clicking the moment it's on or clicking further away from her so it's not right next to her face.

As I work on my technique you can still see that cookie is demonstrating a lack of stress or fear during this session. She's not simply tolerating it she's actually comfortable.

You'll see me pause and wait for long periods of time where I'm making sure that she still wants to engage in this activity. We are in a round pen but the gate is wide open so she can leave. She is not tied to anything. She is at free choice and choosing to engage. That's the point of positive reinforcement and consent training.

What I like about this photo is that it shows Millie comfortably sitting near Hank.

When she first met Hank she was a little unsure of him. Within 40 minutes she was excited to come up to him and sniff him and interact with him.

It's really important to let young dogs meet all sorts of dogs but specially polite respectful dogs. If Hank had just bowled her over and not listen to her worries then it would have confirmed Millie's belief that Hank was a little worrisome.

Instead he patiently waited and did his own thing until she was able to approach him on her own terms. At which point she realized he's not such a bad guy. If anything he's fashionable!

Appropriate puppy socialization is key to developing a lifelong ability to thrive in all social dynamics.
