Inspired Spine is a total spine care provider committed to treating back and neck pain using advanced, minimally invasive procedures.
Inspired Spine has worked to develop technologies and procedures that not only address the patient’s original concern of back pain, but also address the possible economic concern of reduced income during a recovery period. Inspired Spine procedures reduce the length of spinal surgical procedures. Traditional spinal surgery addressing one disk can take about 4 hours. You can expect to be in the hos
pital for up to 5 days, and there will be a doctor recommendation for 3 months post-surgical recuperation. In contrast, the same diagnosis of a herniated one level spinal disk with an Inspired Spine procedure will have your surgical time be 45 minutes. You will be home sleeping in your own bed the same day the surgery took place, and you will be asked to engage in “no sweat” activities for 2-3 weeks. No sweat activities is as it means. You can enjoy walks, go out for dinner, and sit at your desk working on the computer. Activities such as running, cutting wood, or snowmobiling would be discouraged. However, sitting in an ice fishing house, walking the dog, or attending business meeting are all completely acceptable. Of course a patient’s health pre-surgery has much to do with determining what activities would be best for them, and they and their doctor will discuss post-surgery activities on a case by case basis.

About a year ago, Dr. Abbasi traveled to India to train and collaborate with other surgeons in performing OLLIF (Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion), one of the most advanced forms of minimally invasive spine surgery. That experience was more than just a professional milestone—it was a deeply personal reminder of why he does what he does.
Seeing how this technique could bring relief to patients globally, especially in places where access to complex spine surgery is limited, reignited his passion for teaching and sharing knowledge. The impact was so meaningful that next week, Dr. Abbasi is doing it all over again—heading back to India to help more surgeons learn how to safely and effectively perform minimally invasive spine surgery.
His mission has always been clear: Reduce surgical trauma, shorten recovery times, and make life-changing care available to more people around the world.
Because at the end of the day—whether it’s in Minnesota or Mumbai—every patient deserves a chance to live pain-free and get their life back.

Dr. Sunny Kim recently performed a Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) trial—a powerful option for patients living with chronic pain.
An SCS trial involves temporarily placing thin wires (electrodes) near the spinal cord to deliver mild electrical impulses. These impulses disrupt pain signals before they reach the brain, offering real-time relief without the need for major surgery or long-term medication.
This trial period allows patients to "test drive" the therapy to see how well it manages their pain before committing to a permanent implant. It's a safe, minimally invasive way to explore a life-changing option.
✅ SCS can be especially helpful for those with:
• Failed back surgery syndrome
• Chronic nerve pain
• Neuropathy
• Sciatica
• Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
If you’ve been living with unrelenting back or leg pain and other treatments haven’t worked, talk to us about whether a spinal cord stimulator trial might be right for you.

Staying true to our motto—fix the patient, not the radiological picture—this case exemplifies precision over overtreatment.
Despite MRI findings of multilevel degeneration, spondylolisthesis, and scoliosis, the patient's only symptom was left-sided L5 radiculopathy. Careful clinical correlation and imaging confirmed a foraminal-extraforaminal disc herniation as the true source of pain.
After conservative treatments failed, the patient underwent a targeted microdiscectomy—no fusion, no overcorrection. Just the right intervention, guided by evidence and patient-centered care.
This is how we reduce recovery time, improve outcomes, and ensure every procedure is necessary and effective.

Meet Dr. Hamid Abbasi – a pioneer in minimally invasive spine surgery who is changing the way we treat chronic back pain.
Dr. Abbasi is the creator of the revolutionary OLLIF procedure (Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion), which allows spinal fusion surgeries to be performed in under an hour with minimal recovery time. His techniques help patients walk the same day, avoid large incisions, and get their lives back faster.
With thousands of successful surgeries, Dr. Abbasi is not only a skilled surgeon but also a passionate educator and innovator, committed to improving patient outcomes and training the next generation of spine specialists.
If you're meeting him for the first time—know this: he's not here to do what's typical. He's here to do what's transformative.

We had a special guest join us in the OR—Dr. Sunny Kim’s daughter!
How incredible is it to witness your parent doing life-changing work up close? She got a first-hand look at the precision, focus, and collaboration that goes into spine surgery.
Whether she chooses to follow in her father's footsteps or carve out her own path in the medical field, experiences like this open the door to so many exciting possibilities—surgery, research, nursing, innovation, and beyond.
We love moments like this that highlight the next generation of curious, driven minds. Who knows—we may be watching a future surgeon in the making!

What you eat plays a powerful role in how your body feels—especially when it comes to chronic pain.
Some foods help your body fight inflammation and promote healing, while others can trigger flare-ups and prolong discomfort. If you're living with chronic pain, understanding the connection between diet and inflammation is key to taking back control of your health.
Discover which foods to embrace and which to avoid to support your spine and overall well-being.
We were honored to have Dr. Kalimullah Wardak, a spine surgeon and orthopedic/traumatology specialist from Afghanistan, join us to observe Dr. Hamid Abbasi perform an OLLIF (Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion) procedure.
OLLIF is a groundbreaking minimally invasive spinal surgery technique developed to treat chronic back pain with less tissue disruption, faster recovery, and significantly reduced operating time. Most OLLIF surgeries are completed in under an hour, with patients often walking the same day.
Dr. Wardak’s visit reflects our shared commitment to advancing spine care globally—and we’re proud to be a place where innovative techniques are not only practiced but shared across borders to improve lives.

No other surgical technique makes back pain treatment easier on you than Inspired Spine’s Minimally Invasive Keyhole Surgery. Using a portal smaller than a dime, Inspired Spine offers back pain relief that reduces surgical damage and post-operative trauma for our patients. The result is:
Our portal – smaller than a dime – protects back muscles and surrounding tissue
Surgery that used to require hours can now be performed in minutes
Unless there are certain risk factors, such as age, obesity, or other complications
98% of patients are walking 2-24 hours after surgery
Return to work and normal activities in less than half the time associated with traditional spine surgery
And because of our high-safety, low-risk profile we can even help people who have been turned away from traditional surgery because of age, weight or the complexity of their condition.
