Inspired Spine

Inspired Spine Inspired Spine is a total spine care provider committed to treating back and neck pain using advanced, minimally invasive procedures.

Inspired Spine has worked to develop technologies and procedures that not only address the patient’s original concern of back pain, but also address the possible economic concern of reduced income during a recovery period. Inspired Spine procedures reduce the length of spinal surgical procedures. Traditional spinal surgery addressing one disk can take about 4 hours. You can expect to be in the hos

pital for up to 5 days, and there will be a doctor recommendation for 3 months post-surgical recuperation. In contrast, the same diagnosis of a herniated one level spinal disk with an Inspired Spine procedure will have your surgical time be 45 minutes. You will be home sleeping in your own bed the same day the surgery took place, and you will be asked to engage in “no sweat” activities for 2-3 weeks. No sweat activities is as it means. You can enjoy walks, go out for dinner, and sit at your desk working on the computer. Activities such as running, cutting wood, or snowmobiling would be discouraged. However, sitting in an ice fishing house, walking the dog, or attending business meeting are all completely acceptable. Of course a patient’s health pre-surgery has much to do with determining what activities would be best for them, and they and their doctor will discuss post-surgery activities on a case by case basis.

Keeping your spine healthy and flexible is essential for overall well-being — and incorporating simple yoga poses into your routine can make a big difference in managing and relieving back pain.

Here are a few effective poses we often recommend for strengthening, stretching, and relieving spinal tension:
🔹 Cat/Cow Pose – Gently warms up the spine, improves flexibility, and encourages healthy movement between the vertebrae.

🔹 Downward Facing Dog – Stretches the entire back, hamstrings, and calves, helping to decompress the spine and build overall strength.

🔹 Cobra Pose – Strengthens the muscles along the spine while opening up the chest and improving posture.

🔹 Supine Twist – A gentle twist that helps release tightness in the lower back and promotes better spinal mobility.

Consistent stretching and strengthening help maintain spinal health, improve circulation, and reduce the risk of chronic pain or stiffness.

If you’re dealing with back discomfort or looking to protect your spine long-term, these movements can be a great starting point.

Always listen to your body, move mindfully, and consult a specialist if you have ongoing back pain.

We’re passionate about helping people live pain-free — through minimally invasive treatments and healthy habits.

Dr. Kim is performing a Loss of Resistance (LOR) injection as part of a minimally invasive spine surgery.

The LOR technique is used to precisely locate the epidural space during procedures — ensuring accurate placement of instruments or medications with minimal tissue disruption.

This technique is essential in minimally invasive surgery (MISS) because it enhances safety, reduces operative trauma, and leads to faster recovery times for patients.

Who benefits from LOR injections?
🔹 Patients needing epidural injections for pain management
🔹 Patients undergoing MISS for disc herniations, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease
🔹 Individuals who cannot tolerate large open surgeries due to higher BMI, age, or other health conditions

LOR-guided injections are recommended for patients seeking precision treatment with less pain, fewer complications, and faster return to daily activities.

We are proud to bring advanced techniques like LOR into every minimally invasive procedure — always focused on helping patients regain their quality of life safely and effectively.

If you or your loved one is struggling with back pain, connect with us to learn how we can help relieve your pain using minimally invasive procedures.

Dr. Abbasi is one of the few surgeons who truly addresses the healthcare needs of patients with a higher BMI, always approaching care with honesty, compassion, and respect — while allowing patients to take charge of their healthcare decisions.

If you’ve been turned down for traditional spine surgery, don’t lose hope.

Dr. Abbasi honored one of the most influential figures in his medical journey—his mentor, Dr. Haring J. Nauta. As the program chair during Dr. Abbasi’s neurosurgery residency in Galveston, TX, Dr. Nauta’s guidance shaped not only Dr. Abbasi’s career but also the careers of countless other surgeons.

To pay tribute to his incredible mentorship, Dr. Abbasi dedicated the Nauta Lab in his name—a state-of-the-art facility committed to advancing minimally invasive spine (MIS) surgery education and improving patient outcomes.

The Nauta Lab stands at the forefront of surgical innovation, uniquely equipped with an on-site CT machine that gives instant feedback to trainees—setting a new standard in hands-on surgical training.

Dr. Nauta’s legacy continues through the work and impact of the many surgeons he inspired. We’re proud to carry his influence forward by pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in spine care.

👉 If you’re ready to expand your spine surgical skills and learn hands-on minimally invasive spine techniques, join our upcoming labs. We’d love to train with you.

04/20/2025

A discogram, or discography, is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure designed to identify whether a specific intervertebral disc is the source of a patient's back pain. By injecting a contrast dye into the disc under fluoroscopic guidance, physicians can visualize internal disc structures during imaging studies like CT scans. This process helps detect abnormalities such as tears or herniations, providing valuable insights for treatment planning.

Procedure Overview:
- Performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia.
- A needle is guided into the target disc using real-time X-ray imaging.
- Contrast dye is injected, and the patient's pain response is monitored to correlate symptoms with disc pathology.

Ideal Candidates: Patients with persistent back pain unresponsive to conservative treatments may benefit from a discogram. It is particularly useful in diagnosing conditions like degenerative disc disease or disc herniation, aiding in the development of targeted treatment strategies.

Clinical Significance: Discograms play a crucial role in distinguishing discogenic pain from other sources, such as facet joint or nerve root issues. The information obtained can guide decisions regarding physical therapy, spinal injections, or surgical interventions like discectomy or spinal fusion.

Safety Considerations: While generally safe, potential risks include infection, bleeding, or allergic reactions to the contrast dye. These risks are minimal when the procedure is performed by experienced professionals.

Dr. Hamid Abbasi recently performed an ACDF (Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion) — a powerful minimally invasive spine procedure that has helped countless patients regain their quality of life.

So, what is ACDF?
It’s a surgical procedure that removes a damaged or herniated disc from the neck (cervical spine) through a small incision in the front of the neck. The space is then stabilized with a fusion to prevent further pain or instability. This technique is commonly used to treat conditions like cervical disc herniation, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease.

💡 Benefits of ACDF include: ✔️ Relief from neck, shoulder, and arm pain
✔️ Minimally invasive approach = smaller incision and faster recovery
✔️ Restoration of spinal stability
✔️ Improved nerve function and overall mobility

✅ Who qualifies?
ACDF may be right for patients who are experiencing chronic neck pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arms due to nerve compression — especially if conservative treatments like therapy or injections haven’t provided relief.

Dr. Abbasi and our team at Inspired Spine specialize in innovative, minimally invasive techniques that get patients back to living pain-free, active lives.

Dr. Abbasi is preparing to begin an SI joint (sacroiliac joint) fusion, a highly effective procedure for individuals suffering from chronic lower back, hip, or leg pain caused by SI joint dysfunction.

The sacroiliac joint connects the spine to the pelvis and plays a vital role in supporting body weight and movement. When this joint becomes unstable or inflamed, it can lead to debilitating pain that is often misdiagnosed.

SI joint fusion stabilizes the joint using minimally invasive techniques, providing relief from pain and restoring mobility within days or weeks.
