Inspired Spine

Inspired Spine Inspired Spine is a total spine care provider committed to treating back and neck pain using advanced, minimally invasive procedures.

Inspired Spine has worked to develop technologies and procedures that not only address the patient’s original concern of back pain, but also address the possible economic concern of reduced income during a recovery period. Inspired Spine procedures reduce the length of spinal surgical procedures. Traditional spinal surgery addressing one disk can take about 4 hours. You can expect to be in the hos

pital for up to 5 days, and there will be a doctor recommendation for 3 months post-surgical recuperation. In contrast, the same diagnosis of a herniated one level spinal disk with an Inspired Spine procedure will have your surgical time be 45 minutes. You will be home sleeping in your own bed the same day the surgery took place, and you will be asked to engage in “no sweat” activities for 2-3 weeks. No sweat activities is as it means. You can enjoy walks, go out for dinner, and sit at your desk working on the computer. Activities such as running, cutting wood, or snowmobiling would be discouraged. However, sitting in an ice fishing house, walking the dog, or attending business meeting are all completely acceptable. Of course a patient’s health pre-surgery has much to do with determining what activities would be best for them, and they and their doctor will discuss post-surgery activities on a case by case basis.

Dr. Abbasi is performing a Laminectomy, a minimally invasive spine surgery designed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and nerves by removing part of the lamina, the bony structure at the back of the vertebra.

This procedure is often recommended for patients suffering from spinal stenosis, herniated discs, or nerve compression, which can cause debilitating pain, numbness, or weakness in the back, legs, or arms.

By creating more space for the spinal cord and nerves, a laminectomy helps patients regain mobility, reduce pain, and return to their daily activities without discomfort.

The best part? Minimally invasive techniques mean smaller incisions, less muscle disruption, and a much faster recovery time compared to traditional open surgery.

The sacroiliac joint (SIJ) plays a crucial role in stability and movement, but when it becomes dysfunctional, it can cause chronic lower back and hip pain. For patients who don’t respond to conservative treatments, SI Joint Fusion can provide lasting relief.

Dr. Hamid Abbasi specializes in SIJ fusion using a minimally invasive (MIS) approach, offering a significant advantage over traditional open surgery:

SIJ MIS vs. Traditional Open Surgery:
🔹 Smaller Incisions – MIS requires only small incisions, while traditional surgery involves larger cuts that lead to more tissue damage.
🔹 Reduced Blood Loss – Less disruption means a safer procedure with lower complication risks.
🔹 Faster Recovery – Patients undergoing MIS SIJ fusion typically recover in weeks, not months like traditional open surgery.
🔹 Less Postoperative Pain – Minimally invasive techniques cause less trauma, reducing pain and the need for extended pain management.

03/23/2025

Experiencing numbness in one leg can be alarming. While occasional tingling might not seem serious, persistent numbness could indicate an underlying spinal issue affecting nerve function.

Some common causes include:
🔹Herniated Disc – When a spinal disc presses on a nerve, it can lead to numbness, weakness, or pain.
🔹 Spinal Stenosis – A narrowing of the spinal canal can compress nerves, causing leg numbness and difficulty walking.
🔹 Sciatica – Compression of the sciatic nerve can cause radiating pain and numbness down one leg.
🔹 Spondylolisthesis – A slipped vertebra may put pressure on nerves, leading to sensory changes.

Ignoring numbness can lead to permanent nerve damage, so early diagnosis and treatment are critical. We use advanced minimally invasive techniques to relieve nerve pressure and restore function with:
✅ Smaller incisions & less tissue damage
✅ Faster recovery times
✅ Effective pain relief & improved mobility

Dr. Hamid Abbasi is dedicated to diagnosing and treating chronic back pain through advanced procedures like the discogram. A discogram is a diagnostic test where contrast dye is injected into the intervertebral discs to identify the source of back pain. This procedure is particularly useful when other imaging tests haven't pinpointed the cause of discomfort.

Benefits of a Discogram:
- Accurate Diagnosis: By highlighting abnormalities such as tears or herniations, a discogram helps determine if a specific disc is causing pain.
- Informed Treatment Planning: Identifying the exact pain source allows for tailored treatment strategies, potentially leading to better outcomes.

Conditions Evaluated with Discograms:
- Degenerative Disc Disease: Wear and tear of spinal discs causing pain.
- Herniated Discs: Discs that have ruptured or bulged, pressing on nerves.
- Unresolved Chronic Back Pain: Persistent pain without a clear source after other tests.

Dr. Abbasi is performing Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (OLLIF), a minimally invasive technique that allows for precise spine alignment with less pain and quicker recovery.

OLLIF vs. Traditional Open Back Surgery: A Comparison
🔹 Longer Recovery Time: Traditional surgery often requires extended hospital stays and several weeks of recovery due to significant muscle and tissue disruption.
🔹 Higher Risk of Complications: The invasive nature of open surgery can lead to higher rates of infection, blood loss, and nerve damage.
🔹 Greater Post-Surgery Pain: Because muscles and tissue are cut, patients may experience prolonged discomfort post-surgery.

In contrast, OLLIF offers several advantages:
🔹 Shorter Recovery Time: OLLIF significantly reduces hospital stays and enables a much quicker return to daily activities. The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes, and patients can often walk the same day.
🔹 Minimized Complications: By avoiding muscle disruption, the risk of infection, nerve injury, and blood loss is greatly reduced.
🔹 Less Pain: OLLIF is designed to reduce post-operative pain by preserving muscle structure and minimizing trauma to the surrounding tissue.

Why OLLIF is a Game-Changer for Spine Surgery:
🔹Smaller Incision & Precision: A smaller incision means less trauma and faster healing.
🔹Less Blood Loss: OLLIF reduces the need for major blood vessels to be cut or exposed, lowering the risk of excessive blood loss.
🔹Faster Recovery: Patients typically experience faster mobilization, less pain, and an overall quicker recovery process compared to traditional open surgery.
