Morning smile from “We Rate Dogs.”

This is Bear. He's a retired police dog who rescued a missing person while out for a walk on his 12th birthday. Bear retired from the Sussex Police Department in 2020, but four years later, he jumped right back into work mode to help rescue a missing person. "He suddenly stopped and started indicating towards an area of dense undergrowth – and then dragged us to it, where he located and alerted us to a vulnerable man," his human Julia Pope said. The person was cold and wet and had fallen over, and police had been searching for him without luck. But Bear's sharp instincts were still spot-on, even after years off the force and two weeks at home following a surgery for two benign tumors. As Kieran Stanbridge of Thin Blue Paw Foundation, a charity that supports working and retired police dogs said, "Even in his retirement, he’s still saving lives.” 14/10

Spay and Neuter Update!!! 🐈🐈‍⬛🐩🐕🐕‍🦺Please read! 🦮🐕‍🦺🐈🐈‍⬛🐩

We transport YOUR animals to the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance in Asheville. We pick YOUR animals back up in Asheville the next day. Spots are very valuable. We have people on the waiting list for long waits. We have begged for more spots. Today was our first trip back since the flood and we were graciously awarded more spots! Here is the big problem. Out of 16 spots, 4 animals were no shows and 2 animals were 30 minutes late and couldn't go. So not only did we arrive late, we arrived minus 6 animals that someone else could have had those spots.

Hence...beginning next Monday, December 9th, if you no show for your appointment or do not let us know that you are not coming by the Friday before your appointment, you will not be rescheduled and we will not give a refund. That sounds harsh, but this is all done as a service to your animals. We can not get to Asheville with missing animals when there are hundreds on the wait-list!

This is Jason Shepherd. Me and my family are living in a camper at my mom and Alan Cunninghams property. My son's first dog ran off yesterday with Alan's dog. Our dog is a Siberian Husky and 13 mths old and is black and white with blue eyes and has a red collar with a rabies tag on it. Alan's dog is a brindle hunting dog and weighs about 45 pounds and about 7yrs old.
I need all my friends around cane river area to help us find them. They will be a 100.00 reward for there safe return. Thanks for your help in this matter. Also please share with everybody. The number to reach us are 828-380-1350, 828-273-7438.

The Barkin’ Basement was founded 6 years ago. It replaced a very successful and long running annual flea sale. The store is open 6 days a week and all propfit from the store goes directly to the operation of the Yancey County Humane Society.
