Three pallets of dog and cat food and kitty litter was just part of a wonderful semi-truck load of donations from “Big Brown Cares” and UPS employees of Louisiana that was sent to Yancey Graphics. Thank you “Big Brown” and UPS employees - and Yancey Graphics for getting the donation to Yancey Humane Society. Anyone who needs dog and/or cat food can stop by Yancey Humane Society during regular hours of operation.

Full time - about 30 hours

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Oversee the front office desk staff to include: Interview and hire
new staff when needed. Provide in-person training of all new hires,
schedule the front desk staff to ensure office coverage and analyze work processes and implement changes to improve efficiency and productivity.
2. Greet visitors entering the shelter, and answer phones, in a
professional, friendly and non-judgmental manner. Direct the public and provide accurate information as appropriate.
3. Complete all Animal Shelter Manager (ASM) transactions, pursuant to the ASM guide, to include: animal intake, animal adoptions, returns to shelter, returns to owner, lost and found, recording of donations and issuing receipts for all monetary transactions, with a data entry error rate of less than 5%.
4. As part of the intake process, take the animals pictures and upload into ASM, print a kennel card, and create a folder.
5. Prepare and submit the Hill’s Science Diet report on a weekly basis, ensuring it is accurate and timely. Ensure compliance with Hill’s contract.
6. Complete the monthly Hill’s Adoption Report.
7. Complete a closing audit at the end of each day in regard to money received.
8. Completes weekly reconciliation and deposits in coordination with the bookkeeper.
9. File all shelter paperwork, on a weekly basis, using an approved
system in compliance with NC Animal Welfare regulations.
10. Complete end-of-month collation and filing.
11. Counsel potential adopters in selecting a pet that fits their
lifestyle, discuss the responsibilities of pet ownership, give
information about specific animals and explain the adoption process to inquiring adopters.
12. Listen to customers and provide effective and courteous responses and remedies to their questions and needs.
13. Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Possess strong oral, written and listening skills.
2. Possess an attention to detail and the ability to be careful and
thorough in completing work tasks.
3. Knowledge of pet breeds, typical dog and cat behavior.
4. Basic computer skills necessary to maintain and update the shelter’s software system, Animal Shelter Manager.
5. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
6. Ability to provide information correctly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
7. Ability to deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner, while using professional mannerisms at all times.
8. Ability to interact with co-workers in a tactful, courteous and
respectful manner.

We have litter! And blankets..so many many blankets. And dog and cat food. (All we ask is that no single person come in and take 20 bags) We want to help our neighbors throughout the winter. We also have cat crates/carriers for sale really low cost and and some new dog crates for sale. We still have dog shampoo...hundreds of bottles...and free flea and tick meds for members of our Yancey County community. Let us help you with pet supplies so you can spend your money on other things you need to recover.

This handsome fella just came in from Burger King area on 19E. An officer picked him up, he was barely missed by a car. He has what looks to be a fence collar. And another grant to report!! We were so thrilled to work with Best Friends Animal Society after the storm. They were the amazing folks behind the free vaccine clinics that happened in our parking lot. They also provided a LOT of the food we gave away and purchased a shed for us to store it in throughout the winter. While they were here they helped us apply for a grant for disaster relief. We were awarded $12,500.00 that has to be used for pet retention. This money will be used for a lot of different things, but it will all be used for animals that are in the homes with their people, to keep them there! We aren't sure how all of the grant will be spent yet, but we know we have dog houses ordered! And we know that part of it will go toward reducing the cost of spay/neuter for community members. Good news keeps on coming this holiday season! We are thrilled beyond words to announce that we have received a grant for $25,000 from ASPCA to purchase equipment for the planned Spay/Neuter Clinic. We also received a $10,000 dollar grant from ASPCA to maintain and distribute pet food and other needed supplies to our community over the course of this winter.

Fundraising will begin in earnest in the spring for the remainder we need for the construction of this clinic. Stay tuned!!

Know which animals are available for adoption and the temperaments and personalities of these pets. Check with the kennel techs when unsure on temperaments and personalities. 7. Utilize downtime to audit ASM for yourself and others, upgrade pet pictures, write up animal comments for publishing to Petfinder and publish photo to Facebook of incoming strays and adoptions. 8. Be knowledgeable of kennel set ups for intake, when needed, in the situation where all kennel techs are outside. Treat kennel techs with courtesy and respect. Use handheld radios to locate a tech. This sweet old gal is looking for a new bakery to put some overtime in. We told her she’s old and it’s time to retire but making biscuits is her passion! When she’s off work she loves to lay in the sun and enjoy naps! She also LOVES LOVES cuddles!! Periwinkle has no adoption fee since she’s a senior around 10 years old. We would love to find this sweet old lady a quiet calm retirement home for the rest of her years🩷

Does well with other dogs! Should I go on?! This gorgeous, sweet boy would do best in an active home as he loves to run and is a typical hound who is always following that active nose on a trail!
