My thoughts from the tractor seat.
What’s missing.
I shake my head lately and wonder what’s wrong with this country. What are we missing? I look around and I can tell you that in my uneducated opinion what I think... Family! Good parents and a strong family, that’s what we need to fix our country.
Kids need to see a set of parents that respect each other and work together as a team.
Kids need church, structure, and spiritual guidance. Kids need an education system that recognizes mom and dad as the authority, God as the creator, and the Bible as a guide.
Kids need discipline from their parents, chores, jobs, and to learn they have work for what they want.
Psalms 22: 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Kids need bicycles, cousins, and neighbor kids to play with. Kids need a grandpa to take them camping, hunting and fishing... to roast marshmallows and hot dogs under the stars over a campfire. Kids need a grandma to read them books, to bake cookies with, and to scribble in coloring books. They need tickled till they are out of breath and belly laughs, cuddles and kisses too. Kids need a dinner time... to sit down together and eat a home cooked meal after saying grace followed with some light conversation. They need to see their family as the center of their world.
Kids need puppy dogs and kittens, maybe some chickens or 4H show animals. They need mud holes and to get dirty. They need trips to the zoo and to see aquariums and to go to county fairs.
They need homemade ice cream and cookies, and to grow cool-aid and milk mustaches. Kids need to blow bubbles and to watch fireworks. They need to make blanket forts and hear tall tales in the dark. Kids need tinker toys, lincoln logs, LEGO’s, hammers and saws. To learn to build stuff and to use their imagination.
What they don’t need are all the gadgets and electronic games that replace parents in order to occupy their time.
Kids don’t need a school system that teaches them WHAT to think... but rather HOW to think for themselves. They need a family... and to spend time with mom and dad!
