This is Lucy's story: Lucy came down with a sudden illness she had severe diarrhea and vomiting medication where not helping. Lucy came to our clinic 3/16/19 when I went out to the van to help bring her in my heart dropped. Theresa Lucy's mom brought all her previous medical papers. Prior to her coming to Milwaukee Walk in she was at an emergency care clinic, that clinic lost hope for Lucy and recommended humane euthanasia. Theresa was not ready to give up on this pup she is only 10 months old so much more life and love she could give. She came to us with a heart monitor, nasal gastric feeding tube, two different iv ports, and a variety of medications to help keep her alive. We spoke with Theresa about the reality of the situation it was grim we were very guarded about the prognosis. Theresa knew Lucy didn't want to give up and that is all we had to know. Our staff set up a treatment plan and started care immediately. If Lucy was willing to fight for her life then we were going to fight just as hard to help her. Sunday morning was a scary morning we didn't know if Lucy was going to make it through the night, we look around the corner and there she was still breathing. We were so relieved these were how the next few days went. Trying different medications treating the symptoms and praying so much praying. Day four we start out morning routine and today is the day that we have been praying for. She gave us one weak thump of the tail, that is all we needed to know she was still willing to keep on fighting. All the staff were called as this was a moment to be celebrated.Day 5, she is up we go outside for fresh air we are able to convince her to take a couple bites of soft food ( everything prior was given through the feeding tube). So today is Friday day 6 of our journey. Theresa came in this morning to gather her baby girl Lucy. I go to the back and open the door and this strong willed little pup leaps down the hallway to her mama. Her tail is wagging and she is happy.
