Tricia Leone, riding Alpha Queen, claimed the win in the Level 1 Non Pro Derby and the Prime Time Non Pro Derby at the 6666 Ranch NRHA Derby presented by Markel.

“I bought her a year ago, and it feels like we are in a really good place right now where we are getting more competitive with each ride,” said Leone. “I had seen her on Facebook and walked up to the Trent [Harvey] stalls and told him I thought he had a horse I wanted, and the rest was history.”

Alpha Queen, a 2019 mare by Wimpy Chic out of Chexanicki, was bred and nominated by Alpha Quarter Horses.

Since coming back to the reining industry after a 15-year hiatus to raise her family, Leone has had sweeping success- qualifying for The Run For A Million in the amateur, claiming Reserve Champion in the Non Pro Level 1 at the National Reining Breeders Classic, and winning the Non Pro Prime Time at the Cactus Reining Classic.

“I feel like we get a little bit better each time we go out,” said Leone. “This mare’s got a bright future. She’s got a sweet disposition and she wants to do the right thing.”

Leone thanked Trent Harvey, Katie Davis, and Liam Sykes, and her husband for being “a true family” who supported her to this win.

Catherine Crandon, riding Flinns Dun Twistin, won the Masters Non Pro Derby at the 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel.

Flinns Dun Twistin, a 5-year-old mare by In Like Flinn out of Wimpys Dun Twistin, was bred by Grace Reiners LLC, and Crandon picked her out of the pasture at just one day old.

“I always liked Wimpys Dun Twistin, she’s just a great mare,” said Crandon. “When I saw this baby in the pasture at Shannon and Mark Rafacz, I just knew I had to have her.”

Crandon thanked NRHA for the addition of the Masters class and Ruben Vandorp for helping her prepare to show.

Nicole Renick and TR Dream About Me claimed their portion of the three-way tie for champion in the Level 2 Open Derby at the 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel.

“I truly call him a unicorn, he is once in a lifetime,” said Renick. “He’s been in my program since the summer of his two-year-old year, and I’ve always had 100% faith in this horse.”

TR Dream About Me, a 2017 gelding by NRHA Eleven Million Dollar Sire Magnum Chic Dream out of Redhot Walla, was bred and nominated by Tamarack Ranch.

This win in the Level 2 and placings in the Level 3 earned the pair just shy of $24,000. Going forward, the gelding will be back in the pen with his owner and non pro rider, Steven Sandvig.

Renick thanked Sandvig for letting her show the gelding, her fiance, Adam, for helping her, and all of her clients who came to support her.
