This is something that's been weighing on my mind a lot lately as my family has told me they are burnt-out on raising puppies so we have come to the conclusion that we are going to cut down to just 1 or 2 intact females plus Lola who is retired and let everyone else go. I'm not yet sure if we will continue to breed a litter here and there or if we'll spay the ones we are keeping as soon as our current obligations to customers are fulfilled. The few dogs that belong to my mom have been returned to her including Bagheera who is due to have a litter in a couple weeks and Aksel. I have 2 or 3 young intact females that will be available to the right homes with or without full AKC registration. We will also have several dog crates that will be available in the next week or two once I sort through everything. There is a possibility that we may sell a few kennels, carports and possibly even the puppy building within the next month or so. I'll post everything on this page as we make those decisions. If I owe you a puppy I'll still make that happen as soon as possible. This is not a decision I take lightly but we put it to a vote and this is what the family thinks is best for us. I want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years. We'll still be here if you need us but on a much smaller scale. I'll keep you all updated on what we decide to do in the near future. Beautiful pup looking for a home! The wonderful rescue group he's with with pulls A LOT of German Shepherds from Memphis Animal Shelter and surrounding areas. If you think he might be the dog for you click the link and fill out their adoption application. If you aren't sure you're ready for a lifetime commitment to a new pet you might want to consider fostering. These rescue groups can't do what they do without foster homes and fostering also gives you the chance to get to know a dog before adopt.

Yesterday we had two wonderful Golden Retrievers, ages 6 and 2, come in for elective surgical procedures. Both dogs had a history of eating a well-known and popular grain free diet for several years. In one dog, an arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) was detected so an x-ray of his chest was taken. His heart was enlarged, so an echocardiogram was scheduled for that afternoon. An x-ray was also taken of the other dog's chest as a precaution, and his heart was also enlarged. He was able to get an echocardiogram same day, as well.

The reports on both dogs just came back, and both of these gorgeous, otherwise perfectly healthy dogs have Dilated Cardiomyopathy. The cardiologist suspects that in both cases it is related to their diet. Thankfully, this condition was caught early, and when fed a traditional diet, their condition should hopefully reverse. Their cases are being reported to the FDA, along with the thousands of others from across the country.

There is no evidence to support feeding grain-free. Most pet allergies are related to environment (pollens, etc) or protein sources. Grain allergies account for a tiny fraction of all food allergies in dogs. Unfortunately, many dogs are becoming very ill or even dying from eating so-called "BEG" diets (boutique, exotic, grain-free), and the terrible thing is nutritionally mediated dilated cardiomyopathy is 100% preventable. There have been zero reported cases of NMDCM in dogs eating foods that meet WSAVA guidelines, currently made by Purina, Hill's, Iams/Eukanuba, or Royal Canin. We strongly suggest if you are feeding a "BEG" diet that you change your dog over to one of the brands listed above. If you have any questions specifically related to your pet, please call us.

We are so hopeful we caught this disease in time for our two beautiful patients to reverse their disease. Their very caring and dedicated owners have already changed their diet to one that meets WSAVA criteria. These girls are so photogenic! It's hard to believe they are still here but since they are we wanted to do something fun to show our appreciation for our teacher friends!
