Does your cat need more water? Today we'll be talking about the importance of hydration in our feline friends!
According to Cornell, the average 10lb cat should drink about 1 cup of water each day! This need increases in our older cats, cats with arthritis, and chronically constipated cats.
So how do we tell if your cat is dehydrated? Check for dry or tacky gums. You may also check their skin elasticity by gently tenting the skin on the back of the neck and seeing how long it takes to snap back into place. In hydrated cats it should snap back almost immediately, if it takes longer than around 2 seconds your cat might be dehydrated!
Some easy ways to increase their water intake would be to flavor some offerings of water, or to feed them high quality wet foods.
