That’s a wrap! Open Lock Spooked is in the books. Mostly. 😉
Lee Hodges and Millie won the nursery today and Kevin and Newt won the open. Abbie and Toast won the first open and Mike Clark and Dove won the first Nursery. Congratulations. Frankie Powell and Amos won the sheep Nursery and Kevin and Newt won the open sheep too. We were overwhelmed by the support and food that everyone brought. Such a great group to spend time with. you all pitched in a helped judge and set and do whatever was needed. My fantastic neighbor Lyn Santa decorated the place and baked her heart out. Randy LeAnn Monroe brought food and moral support and help where needed. Marvin Daniels’s an awesome job of judging the nursery through fair weather and foul! Vickie Dan Haley was amazing at keeping the kitchen organized with all the food coming in. Frankie Powell and Bobby D***s set most of the weekend and did a great job! Deb Doman scribed both days! And as always my stalwart husband, doing it all to get ready and setting courses and judging the open and the sheep. Thanks so much for supporting my addiction! See you at the next one everyone!

Friday afternoon MSSA Sheep trial. Limited entries. Text or call.

We will have pot luck lunch again and leftovers for supper. Camping available, no hookups. Bring chairs and seasonal clothes. May rain, may not!😂Spectators welcomed.

Well Ruby and I wound up 5th in the nursery final. We had a severe outrun glitch come up the first run of the week and it hung in there all week. So we know what we’ll be working on. I was getting good at missed fetch panels but thought I had it till the nerves got me today and I just had to blow her in too soon. Cost me a lot but I got the sort and the trailer load so was really happy with Ruby for that. One thing about these dogs they are giving you all they know to give. And they are a true joy.
My most exciting happening is Ruby’s daughter Jess won the USBCHA Open and Nursery Cattledog Championship titles. She had a fantastic handler in James Butler and a phenomenal trainer in Joni Tietjen. But I’m taking credit for giving her her first puppy belly rubs! 😂 Of the ten dogs in the nursery final 5 of them were pups or a grand pup of Joni’s Jim dog. Jess, Fez Wyn, Ruby and Ted. That’s quite a feather in your cap Joni! This sport is like no other and so grateful for the people and dogs it has brought into my life.

Get out there and run your dogs, it’s a good life!

Entry for the trials, dates are November 2/3, November 30/December 1, January 18/19 2025 We are also considering a small sheep trial for MSSA points Friday afternoon before the Cattle trial on Saturday. How much interest?

Slip/Ella pups ready to go!😍 Should be awesome sheep dogs and sensible cattle dogs. Won’t be the rip and tear type dogs but anyone who has seen Dale and Slip know they can get a lot done and he’s a good type to have around. Ella has been a great lambing and sheep trial dog and is a good lesson dog. I’ll be making a trip to just out of St. Louis this weekend and Nebraska and South Dakota next week if you are looking for your next stock dog.

Ruby and I had some really good luck and fun times this week. Messed up some too but that’s dog trialing. Got to see a lot of people I’ve missed and make some new friends. Thanks Steve Wight, Jeannie Biggers and crew for putting on a marathon event, went off like clockwork again.

Ruby is coming home with the 2024 National Finals Nursery Ultimate Stockdog Reserve Buckle. I was so proud of her as I ran her 15 times this week and she was always there when I blew that whistle. She had 5th in the Nursery Sheep average and won the first Open cattle Thanks Mountain States Stockdog Association for a the great memories. Thanks Shannon Fritz for this cool pup!!
