Well I’m getting a lot of urgent or emergency calls. So from a preventive point of view, it sure seems like grey hounds are prone to skin lacerations because they run like the wind and run into things. 🤷🏻‍♀️ and usually when you’re on vacation it seems lol.

Bromethalin rat poison is toxic especially to cats. It has no antidote and causes brain swelling. I prefer the anticoagulant rodenticides because you have time to prevent symptoms if you catch your dog eating it. And a mouse that gets it won’t likely poison a cat that eats it. Bromethalin can poison your cat by eating a mouse that’s ingested it. I’m posting this because it may have just gotten one of my kitty patients 😞 these poisons are nothing to mess with. I don’t know why the powers that be decided to take the anticoagulants away and give us bromethalin instead.

Good things to have in your emergency kit for your pets. Every once in awhile someone has to take their pet in with breathing difficulties. Oxygen would be great in that situation. The other device is for suctioning in choking victims. You can use the mask to deliver oxygen or suction in emergencies.

Every once in awhile there is a season of flare-ups of certain health conditions. That’s been noticeable in the last week or so. I’ve seen an uptick in urinary symptoms in cats, my own cat included. And my other kitty has been having asthma flare ups. So far dogs have been ok. If you have a male cat with urinary symptoms I’d recommend a vet visit or consult asap for some special prescription food. If you wait too long male cats can end up with an emergency urinary blockage.

Home visits are a lot different than in a clinic. It’s usually less stressful. Although some pet patients are seeing me because they’re too scared to go in. And that requires a little planning. Stress is a huge part of a pets health. They pick up on pet parents stresses and can start showing signs of illness or behavior changes. Often times the health problem of the pet becomes a big deal to folks. Then the stress on the pet actually increases. So the best thing to do is recognize any stress. Put yourself in your pets place to see what it looks like to them as best you can. Try to reduce the stress and add fun things. Dont overfocus on problems. Focus on what you like about your pet. They love to play and they love you. You’re central to their lives. If you’re not happy they’re not happy.
