Beau and Harper/ EPM update!
Beau and Harper looking stunning today! 😍🎃🖤 And just since people wonder, here’s a little Beau update!Ive had Beau now for a little over a year now. Within the first 2 months of having him he got diagnosed with EPM. He had had it for quite a while and it had just been missed. He would stumble and have intermittent lameness, only to the left (which check out the soundness in the video! 🥰) and he also was incredibly hard to keep weight and muscle on. Literally all of a sudden, in the last month or so, Beau has totally changed. He hasnt taken a single stumble type of step, ive seen no indication of lameness, and hes picked up a ton of weight and muscle. Im not sure if it was the treatment or not (he hasnt been on it in about 3 months now) or possibly management and a chnage in diet (i really revamped the diet). But i am so so so happy with how he is doing and it makes me hopeful that he will be with me for a long time. Beau is absolutely worth his weight in gold and i will continue to fight for his health and do everything i can to keep him healthy and happy 🤠
Lily is quickly becoming a favorite of lesson students here at GHF! What a stellar girl, incredible brain and just as sweet as can be. And she fits with my MO - grey AND a mare 😆 there are a few WEEKDAY lessons available - message for info!
Toulouse goes to HITS
Easiest and smoothest guy out there. Toulouse is still figuring out straightness, correct bend, and what alllll of those legs are doing. He’s doing such an excellent job. He checks in with me and when I tell him he’s ok, he knows he’s ok. Calm, steady, smooth… that’s how we need to bring along our babies. No rushing, no over doing it, pushing when needed…
Toulouse cantering cross rail
Little baby Toulouse is growing up! First time cantering a fence and he nailed it!! He’s been such a fun little baby to develop. I gave him about 2 months off after the last clinic so really reset his feet and let him finish growing (he turned 6 on April 26th 🥰) and I think he is back better than ever now. This is your sign to slooooow down and enjoy the ride :) 🤠 🐎 #ottb #thoroughbred #offthetrackthoroughbred #gelding #baygelding #horsetraining #ottbrestart
Lessons
Lessons and trail rides have been rockin’ and rollin’ here at Grey Horse Farms!! Make sure to schedule in advance to guarantee a spot as they are limited and fill up quickly!
Sophia and Beau 🖤
Sophia and Beau working on some fitness yesterday! I firmly believe that a good base (strong leg, strong core) is the key to all your riding. Once you get that strength, everything else is much easier. If you’re strong it means you can hold yourself where you need to be regardless of what the horse does (spooks, over jumps, etc). I find a lot of riders rely on their saddles and stirrups way too much these days. To get Sophia thinking about her base, the majority of the lesson was with no stirrups. Once I let her have them back, the stirrups just ADDED to her position instead of her solely relying on them. When you’re strong, little movements are easier and more programmed into you. Riding horses is all about the hidden movements that us on the ground DONT see. We want quiet and strong riders 💪 your horses also truly appreciate a quiet rider! And remember, the biggest compliment you can get is “you look like you’re doing nothing up there”
Beau & Sophia
Had so much fun teaching @phia_lane05 yesterday on Mr. Beau! Sophia did an excellent job putting a solid ride on him and Beau has come back better than ever after finishing his third round of EPM treatment. Can’t wait to watch these two progress together!
Ella and Tori
Our youngest rider at 3 is Ella! Ella is just starting to learn how to trot 💓 she has already mastered “woah” and “walk on” on miss Tori 🦄
We still have some availability for riding lessons - all ages, levels, and aspirations welcome. We are NOT only a show barn but a family barn as well. Come join us for safe learning, fun, and a positive environment with a growth mindset 💓🦄
Cairo, NY
Gently gently gently trying to bring this boy back. We are slowly sussing things out and going at Beau’s pace. There is no agenda; there is no end game. I’m enjoying the process and will be pleased with wherever he ends up as long as he is happy and comfortable. I’ve done it before and was able to help quite a few horses get to comfy places again. He may never be a 3’6” performance hunter, but he will always be my favorite boy 🖤
