*** Update***. Simba is going to stay with his family and try some new ideas and methods to try and make it work. Thank you everyone for your kind words and interest. Let's hope Simba can start getting along with his sister, Skye.

Hey everyone... I was contacted by a previous buyer that had bought two basenjis from me last season. Unfortunately, littermate syndrome has been an issue and brother and sister are not getting along. They are looking to find a home for their red male, Simba. He has been neutered already. He knows the commands, sit and leave it. He is affectionate to people and is kennel trained. Knows how to use his doggy door... I will be taking him back tomorrow and seeing how he does with other dogs and alone. If you are possibly interested in an older male (about 10 months old), please message me for more details. One of the reasons I don't like to tell people their "exact number" on our waitlist is for this reason... I still have not heard back from 3 of the first picks on our list and I've had 3 back out for different reasons. If I still haven't heard back by this weekend, I'll contact the next 3 on the list to see if they are interested in any from Lily's litter. As of now, only one female is for sure spoken for, but has not been picked out yet. There's still plenty of time, I just like to keep people updated of their puppy as they grow. I will continue to take pics and post all of them for now.

I have sent emails out to the first two female and first two male picks for Lily's litter. If anyone is no longer interested, I'll contact the next person on the list. I have had two people back out which just moves others up. It's not time for anyone to actually pick out their pup, but I will need to know if they are even interested still or not so I can prepare others that might be. Thanks!

Lily had 2 boys and 2 girls last night. One red and white boy, one tri boy and two red and white girls. Everyone is doing well so far.

Well, I don't know guys. I guess Lily didn't take the first time she tied. The next time it happened, I was at work and forgot to write it down. May have a false pregnancy here. If she hasn't gone into labor within the next two days, I'll take her to the vet. I'll keep everyone updated.

No puppies today. I've been monitoring her temp and she's around 99.7 so it might be tonight or tomorrow. I've got the monitor on her and will be checking throughout the night.

Lily's new whelping box is set up and ready to go for her. The back middle piece can come out so she can use her doggy door to go outside. Her due date from the date I saw her tie with Rags is this Sunday!

At this time we have 2 possible upcoming litters. Lily and Rags are expected around October 20th and Leila and Roscoe around November 6th. I will have one more litter but at a later date. I currently have 8 people on my waitlist, so there is still room if interested. Expecting red and whites and tris. I will be keeping the first tri female pick.

GREAT article explaining umbilical hernias! Basenjis are predisposed to umbilical hernias, and even though I've tried to somehow get it out of my breeding program, it still happens. I've never known a Basenji breeder that ever went through an entire season without having at least one litter that had an umbilical hernia or two in it. I'm always upfront about them and if you've read my basenji info page on my website, you know that around 4-5 weeks of age, I always let a buyer know if they have reserved a puppy that has one. I've also never had a puppy with a TRUE umbilical hernia - only ones with outies like this article describes.

Umbilical hernias are common in puppies and cause swelling at the belly button. Find out how to identify an umbilical hernia and treat it if it is a problem for your dog.

Lily and Rags tied today. I will leave Rags around her for a few more days, but this puts her due around October 20th with puppies being ready to go around December 15th if she took. I will keep everyone posted!

We may actually have puppies available on or around Christmas time this year! Lily looks to be coming into heat. This is her litter from last year. I will be keeping a tri female from her if she has one, but all others will be available. She usually has a litter of 6, so we shall see. Will keep everyone posted as time goes on.
