🚨 Urgent Help is Needed!! 🚨
Last week we were called in to assist Caldwell Police Department and Caldwell Animal Control with a large hoarding case. Our rescue is FULL but they needed help NOW, so without hesitation our team stopped everything that day to rescue 25 dogs from the property. They have been living in tightly confined spaces, drenched in filth and with minimal interaction.

Fostering is everything for dogs like these, who have never had the privilege of touching grass.

WARNING ⚠️ TRIGGER POST
We are heartbroken and angry.😠😢 Riley was only a year old and came to HART with a single pup in tow.
She had a terrible cough and obvious breathing issues when she arrived. After running all the tests and nothing coming back, we did X-rays and a heartworm test.
The results came back. The pulmonary arterial changes were consistent with severe pulmonary
arterial hypertension and/or heart worm disease.
The Heartworms were so far into the disease, they were suffocating her, quickly.
Riley was ONLY A YEAR OLD. Even a young dog can have complications. This could have been prevented. 😔
Sometimes, and with our experience most times, the dogs that come to us heartworm positive, are immediately put on treatment and it can be reversed in time.
This is the second pup we’ve had that was this severe.
Riley was laid to rest and her suffering ended leaving behind a young girl pup (thankfully weened) 😔🖤🐾
Any donations made in Riley’s name or on this post will go towards purchasing prevention and treatment for the ones that come to us with a positive status.

With temps getting down in the teens and 20’s here in Texas, everybody is warm and toasty with their blankies settled in for the extreme cold coming in tonight. Volunteers are needed to walk and fosters needed to keep pups warms. 🫶🏻🥶❄️
