🐾 What is FeLV and Why Should You Test for It? 🐾

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a serious disease that affects a cat’s immune system, making them more vulnerable to infections and other illnesses. It’s highly contagious between cats, which is why testing is so important—especially for new kittens or cats entering your home!

Why Should You Test?
✔️ Protect Other Cats: FeLV can spread through saliva, grooming, and shared food/water bowls. Early testing helps prevent transmission.
✔️ Know Your Cat’s Health: Detecting FeLV early allows us to provide supportive care and help manage their quality of life.
✔️ Routine Prevention: FeLV testing is quick, simple, and can be paired with vaccinations to keep your cat safe.

When Should You Test?
🐱 When adopting a new kitten or cat
🐾 Before introducing a new cat to other cats in your home
🐱 If your cat has unknown FeLV history or is showing symptoms like lethargy, weight loss, or frequent infections

Give your furry friend the healthy start they deserve! Schedule a FeLV test today and keep your household safe and happy.

🐾 Sassy is Looking for a Loving Home to Retire In! 🐾

Meet Sassy, a beautiful 10-year-old fluffy calico who is in need of a peaceful, loving home to spend her golden years. She is a sweet and affectionate cat who loves to curl up next to you for pets. Sassy gets along well with both cats and dogs and has been an indoor cat, though she previously lived as an indoor/outdoor kitty. She is very easy to care for and currently eats only dry food.

Sassy has recently been to the vet, where she received a clean bill of health and updated vaccinations. She will come with a cat tree, new litter box, bowls, food, treats, and vet records—all she needs now is a caring home to settle into.

She is free to a good home due to a medical condition in the family, and her owner wants to ensure she finds a loving place to call her own.

If you’re interested in giving Sassy a warm and comfortable home, please contact Jenn at:

🔬 What is a Cytology and How Does it Help Your Pets? 🐾

At Indian Creek Vet, we use a cytology to dig deeper into your pet’s health and provide accurate diagnoses for a variety of conditions. But what exactly is a cytology?

📖 Cytology Explained:
Cytology is the study of cells under a microscope. It helps us identify abnormalities like infections, inflammation, or even cancer by examining samples from your pet’s skin, ears, or other tissues.

🩺 How Do We Use Cytology in Our Hospital?
✔️ Ear Infections: We examine samples to identify bacteria, yeast, or mites.
✔️ Lumps or Bumps: We evaluate cells from masses to determine if they’re benign or something more concerning.
✔️ Skin Issues: We assess skin scrapings to diagnose rashes, allergies, or infections.
✔️ Fluid Analysis: We evaluate samples from wounds or body cavities to guide treatment plans.

A Cytology allows us to get results quickly, helping us provide targeted treatments and better care for your furry friends. Early detection and accurate diagnoses are key to keeping your pets happy and healthy!

💕 Happy Valentine’s Day from Indian Creek Vet! 💕

We hope your day is filled with love, snuggles, and paw-sitive vibes! 🐾 But as you celebrate, don’t forget to keep your furry friends safe from common Valentine’s Day hazards:

🍫 Chocolate & Candy:
While sweet treats are great for humans, they can be dangerous for pets! Chocolate and candies containing xylitol are highly toxic and can lead to serious health issues.

💐 Flowers & Plants:
Beautiful bouquets often include lilies, which are toxic to cats, and other plants that can upset your pet’s tummy. Keep flowers out of reach to avoid accidental snacking.

🕯️ Decorations:
Candles and ribbons may set the mood, but curious pets might find them irresistible—and risky!

Let’s make sure this Valentine’s Day is full of love, not emergencies. If you have any concerns or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Registration is now open for our 2025 Spring Break Camps! We have camps available for kids aged 6-13.

Camps are an excellent way for children to gain experience with animals and get involved in shelter projects. Camp curriculum changes each session, so repeat campers are welcome! Each session will explore animal care and behavior, reading to animals, IHS goals and mission, humane awareness, compassion, and service. We strive to share the shelter’s mission and programs and teach younger generations about humane care for pets and safety around animals.

Idaho Governor Brad Little has proclaimed today, February 5, to be Idaho Loves Shelter Animals Day. 🎉

In this proclamation, Gov. Little noted that "Idaho's animal shelters will achieve a 90% save rate if 6% more Idahoans seeking a pet choose to adopt from a shelter rather than to purchase."

He further stated that "Idahoans should work together to achieve a 90% save rate in the state in 2025, and animal shelters can do this by collaborating with local shelter and rescue partners as well as employing lifesaving programs." 🐾

Let's do this, Idaho! 👏 -Julie Castle, Best Friends CEO

📢 Let’s Talk About Giardia! 🐾

Giardia is a pesky parasite that can affect both pets and humans, making it a zoonotic disease. Here’s what you need to know to protect your furry family members and yourself:

⚠️ Symptoms in Pets:
🐕 Diarrhea (often soft, greasy, or with a strong odor)
🐾 Vomiting
🐕‍🦺 Weight loss or lack of appetite
🐾 Lethargy

🩺 How Do We Test for It?
At Indian Creek, we use advanced diagnostic tools to detect Giardia in your pet. A simple stool sample allows us to identify the parasite quickly and accurately, so we can get your pet on the road to recovery!

🌍 Zoonotic Alert!
Since Giardia can spread to humans, it’s crucial to practice good hygiene, especially after handling pets or cleaning up after them. Always wash your hands thoroughly and avoid drinking from untreated water sources.

If your pet is showing signs of Giardia or you have concerns, give us a call today to schedule an appointment. Together, we can keep your pets happy, healthy, and parasite-free! 🐶🐱✨
