🦴 Keep treats out of reach – Chocolate and candy can be harmful to pets, so make sure they don’t get into your stash!

🎃 Be mindful of costumes – If your pet loves dressing up, great! But if they seem uncomfortable or stressed, it's okay to skip the costume.

🕯️ Decorate safely – Avoid lit candles or dangling decorations that could pose a hazard to curious paws.

🍬 Candy Hazards: Keep Your Pets Safe! 🐾

As we dive into the candy-filled season, it’s essential to be aware of the dangers some treats pose to our furry friends. One particularly harmful ingredient is xylitol, a sugar substitute found in many sugar-free candies, gum, and even some baked goods.

🚫 Why is xylitol dangerous? Even small amounts can cause a rapid insulin release in dogs, leading to severe drops in blood sugar (hypoglycemia), seizures, liver failure, and even death. Symptoms can appear within 30 minutes and include:

Vomiting 🤮
Weakness or lethargy 💤
Loss of coordination 🐾
Seizures ⚠️
🍭 Tips to Keep Your Pets Safe:

Always check labels for xylitol before sharing any treats.
Store all candies, especially sugar-free ones, out of reach.
If you suspect your pet has ingested xylitol, contact your veterinarian immediately!

❄️ Winter is Coming! Keep Your Pets Safe in Cold Weather 🐾

As the temperatures drop, it’s important to make sure your pets are safe and comfortable during the winter months. Here are a few tips to keep your furry friends warm and healthy:

🐶 Limit Time Outdoors – Pets can suffer from frostbite and hypothermia just like humans. Make sure to limit outdoor time, especially for short-haired breeds.

🐾 Check Their Paws – Snow, ice, and salt can be rough on your pet’s paws. Wipe their paws after walks to prevent irritation, and check for any cracks or injuries.

🧥 Bundle Up – Short-haired pets may need a little extra warmth with a coat or sweater when heading outside.

🚗 Bang the Hood – Cats love to hide under car hoods for warmth. Give it a tap before starting your engine to make sure no furry hitchhikers are hiding!

💧 Watch for Antifreeze – Antifreeze can be deadly for pets. Clean up any spills immediately and keep containers out of reach.

🐾 Why did Niki become a Veterinary Technician? "I became a vet tech because I love making a difference in the lives of our clients who are passionate about their furry family members. Additionally, I enjoy learning and find that every day offers something new to understand."
