๐Ÿฆ  Rabies Awareness: Protect Your Pets with Vaccines! ๐Ÿฆ

Rabies is a serious and potentially fatal disease that affects both cats and dogs. Itโ€™s crucial to keep your pets protected to ensure their safety and well-being. Hereโ€™s what you need to know:

What is Rabies?
Rabies is a viral infection that can be transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. It affects the nervous system and can be deadly if not treated promptly.

Why Vaccination is Key:

Prevention: Vaccinating your pets against rabies is the most effective way to protect them from this dangerous disease.
Legal Requirement: In many areas, rabies vaccination is required by law. Keeping your pets up-to-date with their shots ensures compliance and their safety.
Community Protection: Vaccinated pets help prevent the spread of rabies to other animals and people, creating a safer environment for everyone.
Signs to Watch For:
Symptoms of rabies can include behavioral changes, aggression, excessive drooling, and difficulty swallowing. If you notice any of these signs, contact us immediately.

Schedule Your Petโ€™s Vaccination Today:
Ensure your furry friends are up-to-date with their rabies vaccinations. If you have any questions or need to book an appointment, give us a call!

The Caldwell Police Department is mourning the loss of retired K-9 Arlo. ๐Ÿพ
Arlo retired when he was ten years old this past December, and continued to live with his handler/family. He came to CPD in 2016. Arlo was adopted from the Animal Shelter of Wood River Valley when he was just 15 months old and began his training as a narcotics detection dog.
After becoming certified as a narcotics detection dog through the state of Idaho, Arlo started his career with Corporal Jared George at the Wilder Police Department. They worked as partners there for about a year before both coming to the Caldwell Police Department.
K-9 Arlo assisted with hundreds of cases during his career and has visited too many schools to count. He was deployed over 655 times and recovered over 243 items of drug paraphernalia. Throughout his career, his alerts have resulted in many arrests and subsequent convictions, making the City of Caldwell safer for all.
Arlo's handler would like to thank Viking Veterinary Care for taking such great care of Arlo and the family as he passed.
Rest easy Arlo. Good boy. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿพ Fun Fact Friday! ๐Ÿพ

Did you know that dogs have an extraordinary sense of smell, which is 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than humans'? This incredible olfactory ability allows them to detect a wide range of scents, including medical conditions like diabetes, certain cancers, and even impending epileptic seizures!

Their powerful noses have made dogs invaluable partners in search and rescue missions, drug detection, and even in conservation efforts to track endangered species. So next time your pup is sniffing around, remember, they're experiencing the world in ways we can only imagine!

๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿพ The 4th of July is just around the corner! While it's a time for celebration, it's important to remember that our furry friends might not enjoy the festivities as much as we do. Here are some essential tips to keep your pets safe and calm during the holiday:

Create a Safe Space: Ensure your pet has a quiet, secure place indoors where they can retreat if they feel scared. This could be a designated room or a cozy crate.

Keep Pets Indoors: Fireworks and loud noises can be frightening. Keep your pets inside, away from the commotion, to prevent them from running off in a panic.

Update ID Tags and Microchips: Make sure your pet's identification tags and microchip information are up to date in case they do manage to escape.

Avoid Fireworks: Never use fireworks around pets. The noise and flashing lights can cause severe anxiety, and fireworks contain chemicals that can be harmful if ingested.

Provide Distractions: Give your pet toys, treats, or chews to keep them occupied and distracted from the noise outside.

Play Calming Music: Soft, soothing music or white noise can help drown out the sounds of fireworks and create a calming environment for your pet.

Consult Your Vet: If your pet is particularly anxious, consult us about possible anxiety treatments or calming aids to help them through the holiday.

Let's make this 4th of July enjoyable and safe for everyone, including our beloved pets! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ If you have any concerns or need more advice, don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Furry Fact Friday๐Ÿฑ

Did you know that cats have a unique mechanism for drinking water? Unlike dogs, who scoop water into their mouths with their tongues, cats use a sophisticated and efficient technique. They touch the tip of their tongue to the water's surface and then quickly pull it back up, creating a column of water that they then snap shut their jaws around. This technique allows them to drink rapidly without getting their faces wet!

This efficient drinking method is not only fascinating but also reflects the evolutionary adaptations of cats, helping them stay hydrated while maintaining their agility and cleanliness. So next time you watch your cat drink, appreciate the elegance and precision of their method!
