Attention Clients!
Starting today we are working through a new medical records system. We have had ample training but the best way to learn is being hands on. PLEASE be patient with staff these upcoming few weeks as your appointment may take longer than normal. If you have questions or need something from the office please do not hesitate to call!

This is also a reminder that we will no longer be working with Petly and PetHealth Network. In the next few weeks there'll be more information to come on contacting us via text and accessing medical records online.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding while we work through this. Thank you!

We are so excited to welcome Dr. Claire Stein to the Southkent family! Dr. Stein received her degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University, where she had also received her bachelor’s degree in Zoology.
Dr. Stein grew up with a variety of pets and knew from a young age she wanted to devote her career to caring for them.
Dr. Stein is a little bit of a crazy cat lady, and lives with her three cats Mouse, Julius, and Joker, her dog Bear, and fiancé Nathan, a teacher in the Maple Valley School District.

Dr. Stein has a special interest in helping older pets age gracefully, preventative medicine, fear free techniques, and ultrasonography. She also enjoys surgery and dentistry. Dr. Stein’s favorite aspect of veterinary medicine is caring for pets as well as the people who love them.

In her free time, Dr. Stein enjoys gardening, sunny walks, playing the trombone, and watching The Great British Baking Show. Washington State natives, Dr. Stein and her family are excited to explore the Mitten State and Great Lakes!

If your interested in meeting Dr. Stein and would like to schedule an appointment call our office today at (616) 891-9070.

May is National Pet Cancer Awareness Month. This is a time to raise awareness and provide support to those helping their beloved pets through this disease.
Sadly cancer can be found in all pets, no matter their age, breed, or size. Yes there are pets at higher risk, but any pet can be at risk for cancer. Nearly 1 in 4 dogs and 1 in 5 cats will develop cancer in their lifetimes. This sad diagnosis can be overwhelming, but there is hope. Through many years of medical advancements there are cancer treatments for pets! Finding a place that can provide both you and your pet support is crucial in the process of this disease. Although our office does not provide cancer treatments, we are here for you. We are hear to listen, support and guide you in any way while managing your pets disease.

As we near the end of May we ask that you help spread awareness and support the resilient pet parents who are navigating through this disease. 🩵

Patient Update! 🩺
Mushu is a four year old bearded dragon who was originally seen at our office for a painful growth on his back. After an appointment with Dr. Kursch it was decided the best course of action was to remove the growth. A few weeks later he returned for surgery and since has been doing great! We love having him in the office, he is always such a good boy! We'd like to thank his family for allowing us to care for him!

Have you met Dr. Koetsier?
Dr. Koetsier our 🦷dental 🦷 doctor here at SKVH. You may not have met her in person because she only does dentals! She spends multiple days a week cleaning teeth, talking with pet owners, and removing damaged or infected teeth. Not only is she great at what she does, we love having her in the office! She is fun, kind, and always willing to fit in pets with urgent needs! We are so thankful to have Dr. Koetsier as the lead of our dental team!

If your pet is experiencing any dental concerns please contact the office to schedule! We will not be offering dentals over the summer. We are currently scheduling until the end of May, and starting again in September. Call us today at (616) 891-9070.

🐕Protect your pet from Lyme Disease!🐈

April is National Lyme Disease Prevention Month! As we take the time to learn more about Lyme, we want to urge you to keep your furry friends healthy. In the last few years, we have seen a drastic increase in the amount of Lyme disease in our area. Like in humans, Lyme disease can be a painful and terrible disease for our pets. We encourage you to take these steps to protect your pets.
Lyme disease is easily preventable.
🔸 Keep your pet on Flea and Tick prevention
🔸 Vaccinate for Lyme
🔸 Check your pet for ticks- especially after being in wooded areas or tall grass.
🔸 Annual Heartworm testing- our test also includes testing for tick-borne diseases.

If you need to purchase your pet's flea and tick prevention feel free to stop by the office or order on our online store through this link: https://skvhcaledonia.myvetstoreonline.pharmacy/

For more information on Lyme disease please follow this link https://www.avma.org/resources-tools/pet-owners/petcare/lyme-disease-dogs

Keeping Veterinary Care Affordable Since 1949!

Southkent is a “mixed animal” veterinary practice that was started in 1949 by Dr. Wayne Finkbeiner. We have separated the farm animal from the companion animal medicine to better serve our clients and patients. Our main hospital is in Caledonia. We also have a sister location in Byron Center. The farm service veterinarians and the majority of companion animal veterinarians reside at our Caledonia location. As a veterinary hospital we strive to give the best possible medical treatment at a reasonable price!
