A father used to say to his children when they were young: —When you all reach the age of 12 I will tell you the secret of life. One day when the oldest turned 12, he anxiously asked his father what was the secret of life. The father replied that he was going to tell him, but that he should not reveal it to his brothers.
—The secret of life is this: The cow does not give milk. "What are you saying?" Asked the boy incredulously. —As you hear it, son: The cow does not give milk, you have to milk it. You have to get up at 4 in the morning, go to the field, walk through the corral full of manure, tie the tail, hobble the legs of the cow, sit on the stool, place the bucket and do the work yourself.
That is the secret of life, the cow does not give milk. You milk her or you don't get milk. There is this generation that thinks that cows GIVE milk. That things are automatic and free: their mentality is that if "I wish, I ask..... I obtain."
"They have been accustomed to get whatever they want the easy way...But no, life is not a matter of wishing, asking and obtaining. The things that one receives are the effort of what one does. Happiness is the result of effort. Lack of effort creates frustration."
So, share with your children from a young age the secret of life, so they don't grow up with the mentality that the government, their parents, or their cute little faces is going to give them everything they need in life.
Remember 👇👇
"Cows don't give milk; you have to work for it."

Ranger’s Ranch had another excellent trail ride this week. We had our youngest trail rider ever. With safely as our number 1 priority the young man had to ride with me. Once again swimming with the horses was the highlight of the day.

Great advice!

Meeting other trail users while horseback riding can be a pleasant experience if approached with courtesy and awareness. Here are some tips to ensure harmonious interactions with hikers, bikers, and other trail users:

1. **Be Courteous and Friendly**: A simple greeting and a smile can go a long way. It helps build positive relationships and sets a friendly tone for any interaction.

2. **Yield Appropriately**: Horses can be unpredictable, so it’s generally advisable for hikers and bikers to yield to equestrians. However, be flexible and communicate to ensure everyone feels safe.

3. **Train Your Horse**: Ensure your horse is well-trained and accustomed to encountering various trail users. Desensitize them to hikers with backpacks, cyclists, dogs, and other potential distractions.

4. **Communicate Clearly**: If you see hikers or bikers approaching, let them know how to best pass your horse. Use clear, calm communication to explain if they should stop, slow down, or take another action.

5. **Stay Aware of Your Surroundings**: Keep an eye out for other trail users and anticipate encounters. This helps in preparing both you and your horse for a smooth interaction.

6. **Use Safe Passing Techniques**: When passing others, do so slowly and give them ample space. If you need to pass a hiker or biker, do so on the uphill side of the trail if possible, as this is often safer for all parties.

7. **Stay on Designated Trails**: Stick to trails that are designated for horseback riding to avoid conflicts and ensure the safety of all users.

8. **Educate Other Trail Users**: Politely inform other trail users about horse behavior and the best way to interact with horses if they seem unsure. This can help prevent accidents and build mutual respect.

9. **Clean Up After Your Horse**: If your horse leaves manure on the trail, try to move it off the path if it’s safe to do so. This shows respect for the trail and other users.

10. **Report Issues Calmly**: If you encounter a problem with another trail user, address it calmly and constructively. Avoid confrontations and seek to resolve the issue through understanding and cooperation.

By following these tips, you can contribute to a positive and enjoyable trail experience for everyone.

P.S. Other trail users outnumber equestrians. If you are a jerk and set off some battle over trail use equestrians always lose.

Ranger’s ranch got their newest guests. We have 4 little c**ts to train. The youngest is still with momma for another couple of weeks before he’ll join the other three.
Get them halter trained, used to people, Work on their feet for a farrier and some basic ground work. Start them young to get a good riding horse later.
