Piglets got their first iron shot today, one more dose Thursday and they'll be all set 🥰
Did you know piglets are born with a low iron reserve and their mom's milk alone is not enough to replenish?
Giving iron shots at day 4 and 6 helps prevent anemia and ensures steady growth in the piglets 😊
We've been doing this for the last 3 litters and have definitely noticed them getting their wonderful potato shape faster 😁
Also very pleased to announce Pirate didn't eat us 😅
I was half expecting her to bust through the locked door when we were giving shots but she kinda kept her cool. Ish... 🤣

Well I started the morning with a little bit of a panic attack 😅
Checked on the piglets and the last boarling, Captain Morgan, looked all but dead 😳
I was sending videos to Flying Pig Fields and took him inside, when all of a sudden he revived himself and was fine. He was just sleeping REALLY deeply 😅
He was very confused about his new surroundings and screamed all the way back to the shed 🤣

Just got the confirmation from the AKKPS (American KuneKune Pig Society) that Pirate is officially transferred to me AND I just submitted the litter notification 🥰
It was a LONG road with plenty of obstacles and setbacks, but we officially have our first AKKPS registered litter of SQH KuneKunes 🥳❤️
Couldn't have done it without Flying Pig Fields and Dodge’s Dream Acres Farm & Family ❤️

Unfortunately Pirate lost 2 of her boys today, I assume she accidentally stepped on them 😞
She seemed a little more agitated than normal so I just gave her some banamine in case it's post partum pain that is making her agitated.
She's kind to her babies and communicating well with them so I'm sure these were accidents, but it's quite surprising as she's a seasoned mom with a great track record.
Fingers crossed the banamine helps her settle down a bit and we don't lose any more 😮‍💨
Losses are part of the game but it doesn't make it any easier, especially after the rollercoaster of a journey it took to get to this first registerable litter 😞
