Serving Veterans & Active Forces with service-related wounds via partnerships with horses & Veterans We are open for applications for programs.

Project Horses For Forces' mission is to provide opportunities for healing for military veterans of all eras and active service members who have incurred visible or invisible wounds co-incident to their service, including their families and also for military loss and su***de loss survivors. We provide no-charge opportunities to develop horsemanship skills and everything related to horses and their

care, from farm and barn maintenance to horseback riding. All sessions are facilitated by a PATH Intl. Certified Riding Instructor and are designed to enable participants to to experience stress relief, rebuild trust, restore well-being and a sense of hope for the future, through interacting with horses and a supportive Veterans volunteer team.

This past week Project Horses for Forces served 35 Veterans & loved ones (most are no-photo groups) - we could not be more grateful and honored to be able to impact so many individuals through partnerships with our Veterans team and the most powerful, gentle, beautiful and trusting horse team (plus our cute adorable kitties) imaginable!

The United States Marine Corps (USMC) birthday is celebrated on November 10th every year. The USMC was established on November 10, 1775 to support the naval forces in the Revolutionary War.

This past week has been a tough week for our Horses for Forces Family and everyone at EV Performance Horses. One of the most beloved horses we have been so privileged to have on our team, had to be euthanized very unexpectedly.
Our family mourns the loss of a fun, sweet, boisterous but always kind and gentle Phoebe... Run free sweet girl!

On Thursday it was our absolute privilege to host 10 residents and 2 family members from the Menlo Park NJ Veterans Memorial Home and several staff members. They all loved the horses, the kittens and the puppy dog. The animals loved on them in ways that blew us all away! The group enjoyed the camaraderie with our Veterans Charlie & Joe (USA), Mike (USN) and Woody (USAF) and our equine staff Sue and Ruth, over coffee and snacks and later a scrumptious barn lunch. What a splendid day!

Perspective to live by - sometimes it does not work. Learn from it.

Afraid Of Messing Up.....?

Sometimes we win, and sometimes we learn. I'm not sure who originally made this statement but an extremely instrumental man in my life had a similar saying. He would say "there is no such thing as failure, there's just the way you realize didn't work."

This idea changed the very way I look at life and freed me from the fear of doing the wrong thing or making the wrong choice.

Now I'm not intending to fit this into the moral realm of true right and wrong, given and spelled out to us from God. But instead of the things in life that are usually up in the air, things like careers and the likes of dailey choices.

This idea of not stressing or even being afraid of making mistakes certainly allows me to keep trying new ideas and methods while constantly striving to improve my methods of my horsemanship and beyond.

How about you? Are you living in fear of "messing up" or failing? Remember, experience is what you gained, right after you needed it.

Usually the best true lessons in life aren't learned from a text book while behind a desk.

We attended an incredibly meaningful Equine Assisted Programs Clinic in Ashland VA this past weekend. Precious beyond description! We learned so much, made so many connections and returned rejuvenated and ready to serve!

POST #2: TARP, POOL & NOODLE AISLE GAMES (please select pictures for explanation): During our final summer series week, we focused on applying what we have learnt in an unfamiliar and slightly more stressful environment. Incredible to witness the trust and unexpected successes as well as the teams overcoming initial refusals / hesitation in their equine partners! I could not be more proud of our program participants and our volunteer Veterans, who learnt and practiced alongside them!

Parelli Horsemanship Instructor Jan Kuhn gives us an introduction to the Seven Games of Parelli Horsemanship. When we return after our July break, we have a lot to work on!

Phoebe (Greek for radiant, bright, pure)- our initial encounter with this beautiful mare that is very ring sour and has not been ridden in 3 years. She is a very sweet and gentle mare! This is a testament to the power of natural horsemanship, gentleness and patience... A great metaphor for life - we can run around in circles not knowing what to do. Or we can focus on asking the right questions, and suddenly we find structure, joy, purpose and friendships that help us be the best we can be.

May 22 - Special Memorial Day Gathering - Video 2 (skip to 27 sec if you do not want the intro's - sound ON) A deeply meaningful ceremony at our flagpole with our Veterans and their families; Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Guards, Kevin Donovan and Lonny LeGrand; Hunterdon County Commissioner Susan Soloway; and Program sponsors Rolling Thunder Inc. National, Hunterdon County Bulldogs USMC League, South Plainfield Elks, Julie van Inwegen and Southridge Community Church.

Certified Riding Instructor and are designed to enable participants to to experience stress relief, rebuild trust, restore well-being and a sense of hope for the future, through interacting with horses and a supportive Veterans volunteer team.
