Project Horses for Forces Serving Veterans & Active Forces with service-related wounds via partnerships with horses & Veterans We are open for applications for programs.

Project Horses For Forces' mission is to provide opportunities for healing for military veterans of all eras and active service members who have incurred visible or invisible wounds co-incident to their service, including their families and also for military loss and suicide loss survivors. We provide no-charge opportunities to develop horsemanship skills and everything related to horses and their

care, from farm and barn maintenance to horseback riding. All sessions are facilitated by a PATH Intl. Certified Riding Instructor and are designed to enable participants to to experience stress relief, rebuild trust, restore well-being and a sense of hope for the future, through interacting with horses and a supportive Veterans volunteer team.

We are so excited to welcome gentle giant, Sugar (Percheron mare, aka Cupcake), to our programs! Everybody has already fallen head over heels for her and she is an absolute joy to work with! She loves the attention she receives, has the perfect ground manners and moves very well under saddle. We have known her for four years as a boarder at the riding school, so when we were given the option to purchase her, it was an easy decision!

Our Horses for Forces family celebrated our 7th year of service this past week at the OMG Burger Restaurant in Long Valley.
We are beyond grateful for our team of volunteers - they make this amazing program possible. Sue Shanley is our volunteer of the year - having served 250 hours in our programs!
We thank our Team of Veterans: Charlie, Joe, Ken & Erik (USA); Woody (USAF); & Mike & Carol (USN). Program participants Don, Jackie & Tony (USA), Don & Tracy (USMC) & Carol greatly contributed to our VA programs by working with attendees during those sessions - what a great way to pay it forward!

On Monday our Horses for Forces family got to enjoy a fun day at the Peacefield Farm in Pittstown, where we met their fabulous Clydesdales, Belgians and more horses and goats and enjoyed a Thanksgiving lunch together out on the patio overlooking the Inn, historic barn and the horse paddocks! We all got to enjoy a carriage ride with the spectacular Leroy taking us all through the farm wonderland! Several of our group got to drive the carriage and the overwhelming comment for the ride was: IT WAS JUST SO PEACEFUL!
Thank you, Stacy and Aram and volunteer team, for this magnificent day!

This past week has been a tough week for our Horses for Forces Family and everyone at EV Performance Horses. One of the most beloved horses we have been so privileged to have on our team, had to be euthanized very unexpectedly.

On Thursday it was our absolute privilege to host 10 residents and 2 family members from the Menlo Park NJ Veterans Memorial Home and several staff members. They all loved the horses, the kittens and the puppy dog. The animals loved on them in ways that blew us all away! The group enjoyed the camaraderie with our Veterans Charlie & Joe (USA), Mike (USN) and Woody (USAF) and our equine staff Sue and Ruth, over coffee and snacks and later a scrumptious barn lunch. What a splendid day!

Parelli Horsemanship Instructor Jan Kuhn gives us an introduction to the Seven Games of Parelli Horsemanship. When we return after our July break, we have a lot to work on!

Phoebe (Greek for radiant, bright, pure)- our initial encounter with this beautiful mare that is very ring sour and has not been ridden in 3 years. She is a very sweet and gentle mare! This is a testament to the power of natural horsemanship, gentleness and patience... A great metaphor for life - we can run around in circles not knowing what to do. Or we can focus on asking the right questions, and suddenly we find structure, joy, purpose and friendships that help us be the best we can be.

May 22 - Special Memorial Day Gathering - Video 2 (skip to 27 sec if you do not want the intro's - sound ON) A deeply meaningful ceremony at our flagpole with our Veterans and their families; Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Guards, Kevin Donovan and Lonny LeGrand; Hunterdon County Commissioner Susan Soloway; and Program sponsors Rolling Thunder Inc. National, Hunterdon County Bulldogs USMC League, South Plainfield Elks, Julie van Inwegen and Southridge Community Church.

We provide no-charge opportunities to develop horsemanship skills and everything related to horses and their care, from farm and barn maintenance to natural horsemanship and eventually horseback riding. All sessions are facilitated by a PATH Intl. Certified Riding Instructor and are designed to enable participants to to experience stress relief, rebuild trust, restore well-being and a sense of hope for the future, through interacting with horses and a supportive Veterans volunteer team.
